1. Maximum Heart Rate (MHR) & Target Zone | 最大心率 (MHR) 与目标区间

Your maximum heart rate is the highest number of beats per minute your heart can reach during all-out exercise. The simplest estimate uses your age.

MHR = 220 − age (years)

To train your aerobic system safely and effectively, you should work inside your target heart rate zone. For most Year 7 students, this falls between 60% and 85% of MHR.

Target Heart Rate = MHR × (0.60 to 0.85)

BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height² (m²)

FITT stands for Frequency, Intensity, Time and Type. It is a framework for designing a personal exercise programme and for making sure your training keeps challenging your body.

4. SPOR Training Principles | SPOR 训练原则

The relationship between speed, distance and time is one of the most useful formulas in physical education. It helps you analyse performance in running, swimming, cycling and many other activities.

Speed = Distance ÷ Time

From this you can also rearrange the formula:

Always make sure your units match. If distance is measured in metres and time in seconds, speed will be in metres per second (m/s). To compare with everyday speeds, you may convert to kilometres per hour (km/h).

Example: A pupil runs 100 m in 14 seconds. Speed = 100 ÷ 14 ≈ 7.14 m/s. To change to km/h, multiply by 3.6, giving about 25.7 km/h. This sort of calculation is often used in fitness testing.

6. Lever Systems in Movement | 动作中的杠杆系统

Our bones act as levers, our joints are the fulcrums and our muscles provide the effort to overcome a load. Understanding this helps you see why some body positions give you a mechanical advantage.

Effort × Effort Arm = Load × Load Arm

In a first-class lever, the fulcrum sits between effort and load (e.g. the head nodding). In a second-class lever, the load is between fulcrum and effort (e.g. standing on tiptoe). In a third-class lever, the effort is between fulcrum and load (e.g. biceps curl). The majority of body levers are third-class, which favour speed and range of movement over raw force.

Skill-related fitness components are more about your ability to perform in sports and games. They help you react quickly, change direction and control your body.

  • Agility | 敏捷: Ability to change direction quickly and accurately. | 快速而准确地改变方向的能力。

  • Coordination | 协调: Ability to use two or more body parts smoothly together. | 顺畅地同时使用两个或多个身体部位的能力。

In many sports, skill-related fitness can be more important than health-related fitness. A gymnast, for instance, relies heavily on balance and coordination.

9. Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) | 自感劳累评分 (RPE)

RPE is a subjective way to measure exercise intensity without relying on heart rate monitors. It lets you listen to your body and adjust effort based on how you feel.

The original Borg scale runs from 6 to 20, but an easier 0–10 scale is often used with younger students:

10. Simple Energy Balance & Calorie Estimate | 简单能量平衡与卡路里估算

Weight management ultimately depends on energy balance: calories consumed versus calories burned. Physical activity is a key part of the ‘calories out’ side of the equation.

Energy Balance = Calories In − Calories Out

A rough estimate of calories burned during walking or running uses your body weight and distance:

For example, a 45 kg student running 3 km would burn roughly 45 × 3 × 1.036 ≈ 140 kcal. This is only an estimate; actual calorie burn depends on speed, fitness level and terrain.
