📚 Year 8 Cambridge French: Common Mistakes and How to Fix Them | 8 年级剑桥法语:常见误区与纠正方法

Learning French in Year 8 is exciting, but it is easy to fall into a few traps that can hold back your progress. From forgetting the silent ‘-ent’ to mixing up ‘c’est’ and ‘il est’, these small errors become habits if they are not corrected early. This article targets the most frequent mistakes made by Cambridge Lower Secondary French learners and gives you clear, actionable ways to fix them. Use these tips to build a stronger foundation and to boost your confidence in speaking, writing and listening.

Year 8 学习法语令人兴奋,但很容易落入一些拖后腿的常见陷阱。从忘记不发音的 “-ent” 到混淆 “c’est” 和 “il est”,这些小错误如果不尽早纠正就会变成习惯。本文针对剑桥初中法语学习者最常犯的错误,给出清晰、可操作的纠正方法。请利用这些建议打下更扎实的基础,在说、写、听各方面增强信心。

1. Noun Gender Confusion: Le or La? | 名词性别混淆:le 还是 la?

A classic mistake is treating all nouns as masculine or guessing the gender. You might say ‘le table’ or ‘la garçon’ because you learned the word without its article. In French, every noun has a gender, and it affects articles, adjectives and pronouns.

一个经典错误是把所有名词都当成阳性,或者凭感觉猜测。你可能会说 “le table” 或 “la garçon”,因为你记单词时没有带上冠词。法语中每个名词都有性别,它会影响冠词、形容词和代词。

To fix this, build the habit of always learning a noun with its definite article. Instead of writing ‘chaise’ on its own, write ‘la chaise’. Create a two‑column table in your vocabulary book to keep masculine and feminine nouns separate. Use colour coding: blue for masculine, pink for feminine. Also, learn the common ending patterns – words ending in ‘-tion’, ‘-sion’, ‘-ette’ and ‘-ence’ are almost always feminine, while words ending in ‘-age’, ‘-eau’ and ‘-isme’ tend to be masculine.

要纠正这个习惯,请养成学习名词时永远带上定冠词的习惯。不要只记 “chaise”,要记 “la chaise”。在词汇本里制作一个两列表格,把阳性和阴性名词分开。用颜色标记:蓝色代表阳性,粉色代表阴性。同时,学习一些常见的词尾规律——以 “-tion”、“-sion”、“-ette”、“-ence” 结尾的词几乎总是阴性,而以 “-age”、“-eau”、“-isme” 结尾的词多为阳性。

Masculine examples Feminine examples
le fromage la nation
le château la télévision
le garçon la baguette

Repeat new nouns aloud with ‘un’ or ‘une’ as well, because the indefinite article also shows gender. This small change at the memorisation stage eliminates a huge amount of guesswork later.

也要用 “un” 或 “une” 大声重复新名词,因为不定冠词同样能体现性别。在记忆阶段做出这个小改变,就能消除日后大量的猜测工作。

2. Adjective Agreement: Adding -e and -s | 形容词配合:加 -e 和 -s

Many learners forget that French adjectives must agree in gender and number with the noun they describe. A common written error is ‘une voiture bleu’ instead of ‘une voiture bleue’. When the noun is feminine, an extra -e is added; when it is plural, an -s is added. This becomes more difficult with irregular adjectives such as ‘beau’ (bel, belle) or ‘vieux’ (vieil, vieille).

许多学习者会忘记法语形容词必须与所修饰的名词保持性数一致。一个常见的书写错误是把 “une voiture bleue” 写成 “une voiture bleu”。当名词为阴性时,形容词需要加 -e;为复数时则加 -s。遇到不规则形容词,如 “beau”(bel, belle)或 “vieux”(vieil, vieille),情况就更复杂了。

The fix is simple: always check the noun before you write the adjective. Underline the noun and identify its gender and number. For regular adjectives, add -e for feminine singular, -s for masculine plural, and -es for feminine plural. Practise with a small set of sentences every day: ‘un livre intéressant’ → ‘une histoire intéressante’, ‘les garçons sportifs’ → ‘les filles sportives’. With irregular adjectives, make a dedicated flashcard set showing all four forms.

纠正方法很简单:写下形容词之前永远先检查名词。在名词下划线,并确定其性和数。规则形容词在阴性单数时加 -e,阳性复数时加 -s,阴性复数时加 -es。每天用一组小句子练习:“un livre intéressant” → “une histoire intéressante”,“les garçons sportifs” → “les filles sportives”。对于不规则形容词,制作一套专项抽认卡,展示所有四种形式。

Remember that some adjectives, like ‘orange’ or ‘marron’ (chestnut brown), do not change in the plural. And most adjectives go after the noun, but a few common ones – such as ‘beau’, ‘bon’, ‘grand’, ‘petit’, ‘jeune’ and ‘vieux’ – usually come before the noun. Paying attention to position as well as spelling will make your French sound much more natural.

请记住,有些形容词如 “orange” 或 “marron”(栗色)在复数时不变化。此外,大多数形容词位于名词之后,但一些常用词如 “beau”、“bon”、“grand”、“petit”、“jeune” 和 “vieux” 通常放在名词之前。同时关注位置和拼写,你的法语听起来会自然得多。

3. Present Tense Verb Endings: The Silent ‘-ent’ and the Missing ‘-s’ | 现在时动词词尾:不发音的 -ent 和漏掉的 -s

A very typical Year 8 mistake is writing ‘je parles’ or ‘tu mange’ because students mix up the endings. Regular -er verbs follow a clear pattern: je parle, tu parles, il/elle/on parle, nous parlons, vous parlez, ils/elles parlent. Notice that the ‘je’ form has no -s, the ‘tu’ form always has an -s, and the ‘ils/elles’ form ends in ‘-ent’ which is completely silent.

Year 8 一个非常典型的错误是把 “je parles” 或 “tu mange” 写混,因为学生把词尾搞混了。规则 -er 动词遵循一个清晰的模式:je parle,tu parles,il/elle/on parle,nous parlons,vous parlez,ils/elles parlent。请注意,“je” 的词尾没有 -s,“tu” 的词尾始终有 -s,而 “ils/elles” 的词尾 “-ent” 完全不发音。

To master this, chant the verb endings rhythmically: e, es, e, ons, ez, ent. When you write, say the subject pronoun aloud and listen for the correct ending in your head. A good checking trick is to cover the ending and ask yourself: does this subject need an -s or not? For ‘je’, the answer is no; for ‘tu’, yes. For -ir verbs like ‘finir’, the pattern is -is, -is, -it, -issons, -issez, -issent, so the idea is similar. Regular drilling with whiteboard games or mini‑quizzes helps the endings become automatic.

要掌握这一点,可以有节奏地念诵动词词尾:e,es,e,ons,ez,ent。书写时,大声念出主语代词,在脑海中聆听正确的词尾。一个很好的检查技巧是遮住词尾,问自己:这个主语需要加 -s 吗?对于 “je”,答案是不要;对于 “tu”,要加。对于像 “finir” 这样的 -ir 动词,模式是 -is,-is,-it,-issons,-issez,-issent,思路是类似的。通过白板游戏或小测验进行规律性操练,可以帮助你让词尾变得自动化。

4. Key Irregular Verbs: Être, Avoir, Aller, Faire | 关键不规则动词:être、avoir、aller、faire

Few errors appear as often as ‘je suis’ confused with ‘j’ai’ or ‘nous sommes’ written as ‘nous sont’. Because être, avoir, aller and faire are used constantly, even small mix‑ups make sentences difficult to understand. A student who writes ‘je suis faim’ is translating word‑for‑word from English rather than using the correct French expression ‘j’ai faim’.

很少有错误像混淆 “je suis” 和 “j’ai” 或者把 “nous sommes” 写成 “nous sont” 那样频繁出现。由于 être、avoir、aller 和 faire 使用频率极高,哪怕微小的混淆也会让句子难以理解。写出 “je suis faim” 的学生是在逐字翻译英语,而没有使用正确的法语表达 “j’ai faim”。

Create a brightly coloured verb chart and place it where you study. Practise by saying full sentences: ‘Je suis anglais(e)’, ‘Tu as un chien?’, ‘Elle va au cinéma’, ‘Nous faisons du sport’. Notice the silent letters: ‘-s’ at the end of ‘suis’ is silent, ‘ont’ ends with a silent ‘t’. When you learn set phrases, learn them as chunks – ‘j’ai douze ans’, ‘il y a’, ‘je vais bien’ – so that your brain retrieves the whole pattern, not separate words.

制作一张彩色的动词表,贴在经常学习的地方。通过说完整句子来练习:“Je suis anglais(e)”、“Tu as un chien?”、“Elle va au cinéma”、“Nous faisons du sport”。注意不发音的字母:“suis” 末尾的 “-s” 不发音,“ont” 末尾的 “t” 不发音。学习固定短语时,把它们当作语块来学——“j’ai douze ans”,“il y a”,“je vais bien”——这样大脑检索的是整个模式,而不是孤立单词。

être avoir aller faire
je / j’ suis ai vais fais
tu es as vas fais
il/elle/on est a va fait
nous sommes avons allons faisons
vous êtes avez allez faites
ils/elles sont ont vont font

5. Negation: Missing ‘ne’ and Forgetting ‘de’ | 否定结构:漏掉 ne 和忘记 de

In English we simply add ‘not’, but in French you must sandwich the verb with ‘ne … pas’. A frequent error is writing ‘Je aime pas le chocolat’ or ‘Je ne aime pas le chocolat’. The first example ignores ‘ne’, while the second forgets that ‘ne’ becomes ‘n’’ before a vowel. Another sticky point is the replacement of partitive articles (‘du’, ‘de la’, ‘des’) with ‘de’ or ‘d’’ after a negative.

英语中我们只加 “not”,但法语中你必须用 “ne…pas” 把动词夹在中间。常见错误是写 “Je aime pas le chocolat” 或 “Je ne aime pas le chocolat”。第一个例子忽略了 “ne”,第二个则忘记了 “ne” 在元音前要缩写为 “n’”。另一个棘手之处是在否定后,部分冠词(“du”、“de la”、“des”)需要替换成 “de” 或 “d’”。

Train yourself to see negation as a pair of brackets around the conjugated verb. Always write ‘ne’ first, then check for a vowel: n’ before a vowel or silent h. Next, place ‘pas’ after the verb. For example, ‘Je n’aime pas les épinards.’ When you use an infinitive in a two‑verb structure, the negation still wraps the first conjugated verb: ‘Je ne vais pas manger.’ Additionally, after a negative, indefinite and partitive articles turn into ‘de’: ‘Je n’ai pas de frère’, not ‘du’ frère. A quick rule: if the sentence says ‘not any’ or ‘no’, you need ‘de’.

训练自己把否定看作环绕变位动词的一对括号。总是先写下 “ne”,再检查是否紧跟元音:元音或不发音的 h 前用 “n’”。然后,将 “pas” 放在动词后。例如:“Je n’aime pas les épinards。” 当你在双动词结构中使用不定式时,否定仍然包裹第一个变位动词:“Je ne vais pas manger。” 此外,否定之后,不定冠词和部分冠词要变成 “de”:“Je n’ai pas de frère”,而不是 “du” frère。一条简易规则:如果句子表达 “没有任何” 或 “没”,你就需要用 “de”。

6. The Passé Composé: Être or Avoir? | 复合过去时:用 être 还是 avoir?

When Year 8 learners begin to talk about the past, they often apply ‘avoir’ to every verb, producing ‘j’ai allé’ instead of ‘je suis allé(e)’. A handful of movement and reflexive verbs take ‘être’ as their auxiliary, and the past participle then agrees with the subject. Forgetting to add an extra ‘-e’ or ‘-s’ on the past participle is another regular slip.

当 Year 8 学习者开始谈论过去时,他们常常把所有动词都套用 “avoir”,写出 “j’ai allé” 而不是 “je suis allé(e)”。一小部分表示移动和反身动词需要用 “être” 作为助动词,此时过去分词还要与主语性数配合。忘记给过去分词加上额外的 “-e” 或 “-s” 是另一个常见失误。

Use the ‘Dr & Mrs Vandertramp’ mnemonic to remember the Être verbs: Devenir, Revenir, Monter, Rester, Sortir, Venir, Aller, Naître, Descendre, Entrer, Rentrer, Tomber, Retourner, Arriver, Mourir, Partir. When you see one of these, your helper verb is être. With être verbs, treat the past participle like an adjective that must agree: ‘elle est allée’, ‘nous sommes parti(e)s’. For reflexive verbs like ‘se lever’, ‘être’ is always used, and the agreement still applies. Start by mastering five être verbs thoroughly before moving on.

7. Forming Questions: Three Acceptable Ways | 构成疑问句:三种可接受的方式

English speakers often try to form questions by simply adding a question mark, which is not enough in French. Writing ‘Tu aimes le foot?’ is acceptable in informal speech with rising intonation, but many exams expect you to show a range of structures. Common mistakes include forgetting the hyphen in inversion (‘aimes-tu’) or placing ‘est-ce que’ incorrectly in the middle of the sentence.

说英语的人常常只加一个问号就想构成疑问句,但这在法语中往往不够。写 “Tu aimes le foot?” 在非正式口语中用升调是可以接受的,但许多考试希望你能展示出多种疑问结构。常见错误包括在倒装结构中忘记连字符(“aimes-tu”)或把 “est-ce que” 错放在句子中间。

Practise all three methods until they feel natural. First, intonation: raise your voice at the end of a statement – ‘Tu vas au collège?’ Second, use ‘Est-ce que’ at the very beginning: ‘Est-ce que tu vas au collège?’ Third, inversion: swap the subject pronoun and the verb, linking them with a hyphen – ‘Vas-tu au collège?’ When the verb ends in a vowel and the pronoun is ‘il’, ‘elle’ or ‘on’, insert a ‘-t-’ for sound: ‘Aime-t-il le sport?’ Choose the form that fits the register you need; for writing, est-ce que and inversion are safer choices. Never mix them in the same clause, and remember that in inversion the subject pronoun stays attached.

Choosing the right preposition before a city or country name causes frequent errors. Learners often write ‘Je vais à Paris’ correctly but then say ‘Je vais en France’ as ‘Je vais au France’. The rules depend on the gender and number of the country, and whether the name starts with a vowel.

在城市或国家名称前选择正确的介词经常导致错误。学习者一般都能正确写出 “Je vais à Paris”,但随后却会把 “Je vais en France” 说成 “Je vais au France”。这里的规则取决于国家的性与数,以及其名称是否以元音开头。

For cities, always use ‘à’: ‘à Londres, à Tokyo, à Marseille’. For countries, the pattern is: feminine country (ending in -e) → ‘en’ (en France, en Italie); masculine country → ‘au’ (au Canada, au Japon); plural country → ‘aux’ (aux États-Unis, aux Pays-Bas). If the country starts with a vowel, you still use ‘en’ regardless of gender: ‘en Iran, en Uruguay’. The same logic applies to continents: en Europe, en Afrique, en Asie, but ‘aux’ for plural continents if needed. To ingrain this, label a map and orally describe dream trips: ‘Je veux aller en Espagne, au Portugal et aux Bahamas.’
