1. Nouns and Gender | 名词与词性

In German, every noun has a grammatical gender: masculine, feminine or neuter. The gender of a noun determines the form of articles, adjectives and pronouns that accompany it. There are three genders: der (masculine), die (feminine) and das (neuter). Always learn a noun together with its definite article, as the gender is often unpredictable from the word itself.

德语中每个名词都有语法词性:阳性、阴性或中性。名词的词性决定了伴随它的冠词、形容词和代词的形式。有三种词性:der(阳性)、die(阴性)和das(中性)。务必和定冠词一起学习名词,因为词性往往无法从单词本身判断。

A few patterns can help: nouns ending in -ung, -heit, -keit, -schaft are usually feminine (die Endung, die Freiheit). Nouns ending in -chen or -lein are almost always neuter (das Mädchen, das Büchlein). Many nouns for male people and jobs are masculine (der Vater, der Lehrer), while female equivalents end in -in (die Lehrerin). Remember the colours rule: imagine ‘der’ in blue, ‘die’ in pink, ‘das’ in green whenever you write vocabulary cards.

一些规律能帮到你:以 -ung、-heit、-keit、-schaft 结尾的名词通常是阴性(die Endung, die Freiheit)。以 -chen 或 -lein 结尾的名词几乎总是中性(das Mädchen, das Büchlein)。很多表示男性及职业的名词是阳性(der Vater, der Lehrer),而对应的女性形式以 -in 结尾(die Lehrerin)。可以记住颜色法则:写词汇卡时把 der 想象成蓝色,die 粉红色,das 绿色。

Gender Definite Article Example
Masculine der der Tisch (table)
Feminine die die Lampe (lamp)
Neuter das das Buch (book)

2. Definite and Indefinite Articles | 定冠词与不定冠词

The definite article ‘the’ changes according to gender and case. In the nominative case, it is der, die, das (singular) and die (plural). The indefinite article ‘a/an’ uses ein for masculine and neuter nouns, and eine for feminine nouns. There is no plural indefinite article in German; you simply use the bare noun or ‘keine’ for negation.

定冠词“the”根据词性和格变化。主格形式为:der, die, das(单数)以及复数die。不定冠词“a/an”对阳性和中性名词用ein,阴性用eine。德语里没有复数的不定冠词;直接用名词本身或否定形式“keine”表示。

A quick mnemonic: think of the phrase ‘Ein Mann, eine Frau, ein Kind’. Notice that masculine and neuter share ‘ein’, whereas feminine uses ‘eine’. In exams, you will be expected to select the correct article for a given case, so memorise the nominative forms as your baseline.

速记口诀:想想“Ein Mann, eine Frau, ein Kind”这个短语。你会注意到阳性和中性共用“ein”,而阴性用“eine”。考试中需要根据格选择正确的冠词,所以先把主格形式记为基准。

3. The Case System: Nominative, Accusative, Dative | 格系统:主格、宾格、与格

German has four cases, but at Year 9 you mainly work with three: Nominative (subject), Accusative (direct object) and Dative (indirect object). The case tells us what role a noun plays in the sentence. The nominative answers ‘who?/what?’ before the verb. The accusative answers ‘whom?/what?’ after the verb. The dative answers ‘to whom?/for whom?’.

德语有四个格,但 Year 9 主要学习三个:主格(主语)、宾格(直接宾语)和与格(间接宾语)。格表明名词在句子中的角色。主格回答动词前的“谁?/什么?”。宾格回答动词后的“谁?/什么?”。与格回答“给谁?/为谁?”。

Visualise the case chain: NOM → AKK → DAT. The nominative is the ‘doer’, accusative is the ‘thing done’, dative is the ‘receiver’. For articles: ‘der’ becomes ‘den’ in accusative masculine; ‘die’ and ‘das’ stay the same. In dative, ‘der’ and ‘das’ become ‘dem’, ‘die’ becomes ‘der’, and plural nouns add an -n to the noun itself if possible (e.g. die Kinder → den Kindern).

想象格链条:主格 → 宾格 → 与格。主格是“动作者”,宾格是“被做的对象”,与格是“接收者”。冠词变化:阳性宾格 der → den;阴性和中性的 die 和 das 不变。与格中,der 和 das 变成 dem,die 变成 der,复数名词如果可能则自身加 -n(例如 die Kinder → den Kindern)。

4. Personal Pronouns in Three Cases | 人称代词的三格形式

Pronouns replace nouns and also change according to case. In the nominative: ich (I), du (you, informal), er/sie/es (he/she/it), wir (we), ihr (you plural, informal), sie/Sie (they/you formal). Accusative: mich, dich, ihn/sie/es, uns, euch, sie/Sie. Dative: mir, dir, ihm/ihr/ihm, uns, euch, ihnen/Ihnen.

代词替代名词,也根据格变化。主格:ich(我),du(你),er/sie/es(他/她/它),wir(我们),ihr(你们),sie/Sie(他们/您)。宾格:mich, dich, ihn/sie/es, uns, euch, sie/Sie。与格:mir, dir, ihm/ihr/ihm, uns, euch, ihnen/Ihnen。

Learn these by sound patterns: ‘mir’ and ‘dir’ rhyme with ‘beer’, while ‘mich’ and ‘dich’ end with the soft ‘ch’ like the start of ‘human’. For third person singular, note the special dative feminine ‘ihr’ – the same word as the plural ‘her’ but meaning ‘to her’. Practice with sentence frames: Ich gebe dir das Buch. (I give you the book.) and Er sieht mich. (He sees me.)

通过发音模式记忆:mir 和 dir 与英语 beer 押韵,mich 和 dich 以轻 ch 结尾。第三人称单数与格阴性的 ihr 和“她的”同形,但表示“向她”。用句型练习:Ich gebe dir das Buch. 和 Er sieht mich.。

5. Present Tense Conjugation | 现在时变位

Verbs in German follow a stem + ending pattern. For regular verbs like ‘spielen’ (to play), remove the -en to get the stem ‘spiel-‘. Then add endings: ich spiele, du spielst, er/sie/es spielt, wir spielen, ihr spielt, sie/Sie spielen. The key ‘du’ ending is -st, and ‘er/sie/es’ is -t.

德语动词遵循词干加词尾的模式。以规则动词 spielen 为例,去掉 -en 得到词干 spiel-,再加上词尾:ich spiele, du spielst, er/sie/es spielt, wir spielen, ihr spielt, sie/Sie spielen。注意 du 的词尾是 -st,er/sie/es 是 -t。

If the stem ends in -t, -d or a sibilant like -s, -ss, -z, an extra -e is inserted before the -st and -t endings to make pronunciation easier. For example, ‘arbeiten’ → du arbeitest, er arbeitet. ‘tanzen’ → du tanzt (the -s- merges). Regular conjugation is the backbone of spoken German; once you can chant the endings, you unlock most everyday communication.

如果词干以 -t、-d 或咝音如 -s、-ss、-z 结尾,则在 -st 和 -t 词尾前加一个 -e 以便发音。例如 arbeiten → du arbeitest, er arbeitet。tanzen → du tanzt(-s 合并)。规则变位是德语口语的支柱;一旦你能顺口说出词尾,就打开了日常交流的大门。

6. Key Irregular Verbs: sein, haben, werden | 关键不规则动词 sein, haben, werden

Three verbs must be memorised as full sets because they are high-frequency and highly irregular. sein (to be): ich bin, du bist, er ist, wir sind, ihr seid, sie sind. haben (to have): ich habe, du hast, er hat, wir haben, ihr habt, sie haben. werden (to become, will): ich werde, du wirst, er wird, wir werden, ihr werdet, sie werden.

有三个动词必须完整记忆,因为它们使用频率极高且极不规则。sein(是):ich bin, du bist, er ist, wir sind, ihr seid, sie sind。haben(有):ich habe, du hast, er hat, wir haben, ihr habt, sie haben。werden(成为/将要):ich werde, du wirst, er wird, wir werden, ihr werdet, sie werden。

To remember ‘seid’ (you are, plural), link it to ‘side’ in English, and note it is different from ‘seit’ (since). For ‘haben’, the du and er forms drop the -b-: hast, hat. Use the sentence ‘Du hast einen Hund’ (You have a dog) to drill the du-form. ‘Werden’ is essential for future tense, so learn its vowel changes: e → i in du/er forms.

记忆 ihr seid 时,联想起英语的 side,并注意它不同于 seit(自……以来)。haben 的 du 和 er 形式去掉了 -b-:hast, hat。用“Du hast einen Hund”这个句子来练习 du 形式。werden 对将来时至关重要,要记住它在 du/er 形式中的元音变化:e → i。

7. Modal Verbs and the ‘Satzklammer’ | 情态动词与“框架结构”

Modal verbs express ability, permission, obligation or desire. The six main modals are: können (can), dürfen (may, be allowed to), müssen (must, have to), sollen (should, ought to), wollen (want to), möchten (would like to). They are irregular in the singular: ich kann, du kannst, er kann; ich muss, du musst, er muss; ich will, du willst, er will.

情态动词表达能力、许可、义务或愿望。六个主要情态动词是:können(能够),dürfen(可以,被允许),müssen(必须),sollen(应该),wollen(想要),möchten(想要,更礼貌)。它们在单数时变化不规则:ich kann, du kannst, er kann; ich muss, du musst, er muss; ich will, du willst, er will。

When a modal verb is used, the main verb goes to the end of the clause in the infinitive. This is called the ‘Satzklammer’ (sentence bracket). Example: Ich kann gut schwimmen. (I can swim well.) The modal occupies position 2, and ‘schwimmen’ closes the bracket at the end. Practice forming your own brackets with ‘möchten’ and ‘können’ – it is a favourite exam structure.

使用情态动词时,主动词以不定式形式移到句末。这被称为“Satzklammer”(框架结构)。例如:Ich kann gut schwimmen.。情态动词占据第二位,schwimmen 在句末闭合框架。用 möchten 和 können 练习构建你自己的框架结构——这是考试中常见的结构。

8. Word Order Rules: V2 and Time-Manner-Place | 语序规则:动词第二位与时-式-地

In main clauses, the conjugated verb is always the second idea, known as the ‘V2 rule’. The first idea can be the subject, a time phrase, a place or any other element. For example: Morgen gehe ich ins Kino. (Tomorrow I go to the cinema.) ‘Morgen’ is idea 1, ‘gehe’ is the verb in position 2. Adverbs of time, manner and place tend to follow the sequence TMP: time, manner, place. Ich fahre heute (time) mit dem Bus (manner) zur Schule (place).

在主句中,变位动词总是第二个成分,即“动词第二位规则”(V2)。第一个成分可以是主语、时间短语、地点或其他成分。例如:Morgen gehe ich ins Kino.。Morgen 是第一成分,gehe 是第二位的动词。时间、方式和地点的副词通常按 TMP 顺序排列:时间、方式、地点。Ich fahre heute (时间) mit dem Bus (方式) zur Schule (地点).

In subordinate clauses with conjunctions like ‘weil’ (because), ‘dass’ (that), ‘wenn’ (if/when), the verb moves to the very end. Ich bleibe zu Hause, weil ich krank bin. (I am staying at home because I am sick.) Notice ‘bin’ is at the end. Edexcel listening and writing tasks often test your ability to recognise the shifted verb position. Practise by making ‘verb-final’ chains.

在使用 weil(因为)、dass(……那个)、wenn(如果/当……时)等连词的从句中,动词移到最末尾。Ich bleibe zu Hause, weil ich krank bin.。注意 bin 在末尾。Edexcel 的听力和写作任务经常考查你是否能识别动词位置的变化。通过制造“动词居尾”的句子链来练习。

9. Prepositions and Their Cases | 介词及其支配的格

Prepositions in German fall into three groups: those that always take the accusative, those that always take the dative, and two-way prepositions that can take either depending on motion or location. Accusative-only: durch, für, gegen, ohne, um. Dative-only: aus, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu. Sing the dative list to the tune of ‘Blue Danube’ to memorise: aus, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu.

Use the mnemonic ‘I Am UnderOver the Fence Between’ recalling the initials. When describing location (where?), use dative. When describing movement towards a place (where to?), use accusative. Ich bin in der Schule. (dative – location) vs Ich gehe in die Schule. (accusative – direction).

两用介词包括 in, an, auf, unter, über, vor, hinter, neben, zwischen。用口诀记忆这些介词。表示位置(在哪里?)时接与格。表示方向移动(去哪里?)时接宾格。Ich bin in der Schule.(与格——位置)和 Ich gehe in die Schule.(宾格——方向)。

10. Forming Questions | 构成疑问句

Yes/no questions are formed by moving the verb to the first position. Spielst du Tennis? (Do you play tennis?) The subject then follows the verb. Information questions use a question word (W-Frage) in position 1, then the verb, then the subject. Key question words: was (what), wer (who), wo (where), wann (when), warum (why), wie (how), welche/-r/-s (which). Wann beginnt der Unterricht? (When does the lesson start?)

一般疑问句通过把动词移到句首构成。Spielst du Tennis?(你打网球吗?)然后主语跟在动词后。特殊疑问句用疑问词(W-Frage)置于句首,接着动词,再跟主语。关键疑问词:was(什么),wer(谁),wo(哪里),wann(何时),warum(为什么),wie(怎样),welche/-r/-s(哪一个)。Wann beginnt der Unterricht?(什么时候开始上课?)

When asking about location, remember the difference between wo (location, dative) and wohin (direction, accusative). Wo wohnst du? (Where do you live?) versus Wohin gehst du? (Where are you going to?). The speaker often adds ‘hin’ to stress direction. In Edexcel role-plays, you often need to ask questions using both structures.

询问地点时,记住 wo(何处,接与格)和 wohin(往何处,接宾格)的区别。Wo wohnst du? 对比 Wohin gehst du?。说话者常加上 hin 来强调方向。在 Edexcel 的角色扮演中,你需要经常使用这两种结构提问。

11. Adjectives: Predicative vs Attributive | 形容词:表语性与定语性

When an adjective comes after the verb ‘sein’ (to be) or similar linking verbs, it takes no ending. This is called predicative use. Das Haus ist gross. (The house is big.) But when an adjective stands before a noun, it takes an ending that depends on gender, case and the article preceding it. This is attributive use. Das grosse Haus (the big house).

当形容词出现在动词“sein”(是)或类似系动词之后时,不加词尾。这称为表语用法。Das Haus ist gross.。但当形容词位于名词之前时,必须根据词性、格和前面的冠词添加词尾。这叫做定语用法。Das grosse Haus。

The attributive ending system can seem daunting, but for Year 9, start with the strong endings used after ‘ein’ words and the weak endings used after definite articles. After ‘der/die/das’, the adjective mainly takes -e or -en. After ‘ein’, the adjective carries the gender marker that the article would have had. Ein netter Mann (a kind man – masculine nominative, -er signals der).

定语词尾系统可能看起来吓人,但对 Year 9 而言,先掌握不定冠词后的强变化词尾和定冠词后的弱变化词尾。在 der/die/das 后,形容词主要加 -e 或 -en。在 ein 之后,形容词携带原本冠词要体现的词性标记。Ein netter Mann(一位友善的先生——阳性主格,-er 表明了 der)。

12. Everyday Thematic Vocabulary & Rapid Recall | 日常主题词汇与快速回忆

Edexcel Year 9 topics often cover identity, school, free time, town and food. Group vocabulary by theme and use image-based flashcards. For example, ‘in der Stadt’ (in town): der Bahnhof, die Kirche, das Rathaus, die Post. Create a mental town map and place each word on a street. For school subjects: Mathematik, Englisch, Geschichte, Erdkunde – visualise your timetable in German.

Edexcel Year 9 的主题通常涵盖身份、学校、休闲时光、城镇和食物。按主题分组词汇,并使用图片式闪卡。例如“in der Stadt”(在城里):der Bahnhof, die Kirche, das Rathaus, die Post。在脑海中创建一张城镇地图,把每个单词放在街道上。对于学校科目:Mathematik, Englisch, Geschichte, Erdkunde——想象你的德语课程表。

Use the ‘chunking’ method: learn phrases rather than isolated words. Instead of just ‘essen’ (to eat), memorise ‘zu Mittag essen’ (to have lunch). Build echo sentences: ‘Ich mag Mathe, aber Geschichte ist langweilig.’ (I like maths, but history is boring.) Pair opposites together: langweilig – interessant, leicht – schwierig, billig – teuer. This doubles your recall speed.

使用“语块”记忆法:学习短语而不是孤立词语。不要只记 essen,要记 zu Mittag essen(吃午饭)。构建回音句:’Ich mag Mathe, aber Geschichte ist langweilig.’。将反义词配对记忆:langweilig – interessant, leicht – schwierig, billig – teuer。这能让你的回忆速度加倍。

Finally, set a five-minute daily drill: pick one topic, write 10 key words from memory, check the gender, and form a sentence with each. Consistency with terminology secures high marks in both the listening and writing papers of the Edexcel Year 9 German exam.

最后,设定一个每日五分钟的练习:选一个主题,凭记忆写出 10 个关键词,检查词性,再用每个词造一个句子。持续巩固术语知识,能在 Edexcel Year 9 德语考试的听力和写作部分中稳拿高分。
