1. Energy | 能量

Energy is stored in different ways: kinetic, gravitational potential, elastic potential, thermal, chemical, nuclear, magnetic and electrostatic. A system is an object or group of objects, and we study how energy is transferred between them. The principle of conservation of energy states that energy can never be created or destroyed; it can only be transferred usefully, stored or dissipated (often as thermal energy).

Moving objects possess kinetic energy (Ek = ½ m v2), where m is mass and v is speed. Gravitational potential energy gained by an object depends on its mass, gravitational field strength g (≈ 9.8 N/kg on Earth) and change in height ∆h, as ∆Ep = m g ∆h.

Work done (W) is equal to the force (F) multiplied by the distance moved along the force (s): W = F s. Power (P) is the rate at which work is done or energy is transferred, P = E / t. Efficiency can be expressed as useful output energy transfer divided by total input energy transfer; it is always less than 1 (or 100%) due to dissipative forces.
