  • Secondary dominant: V of any diatonic chord other than I. Formula: a major triad (or dominant 7th) built on the root a 5th above the target chord. E.g., in C major, A major (V/ii) resolves to D minor.
  • Diminished 7th modulation enharmonic theorem: any diminished 7th chord can be respelled enharmonically to resolve in at least four different keys. This makes it a powerful pivot for distant modulations.
