AS AQA German: Quick Reference Handbook of Formulas and Rules | AS AQA 德语:公式定理速查手册

📚 AS AQA German: Quick Reference Handbook of Formulas and Rules | AS AQA 德语:公式定理速查手册

Welcome to your indispensable quick-reference guide for mastering the structural ‘formulas’ that underpin the AS AQA German course. Just like mathematical theorems, German grammar follows predictable patterns and rules that, once internalised, will transform your accuracy and confidence in both written and spoken German. This handbook distils those rules into clear, bite-sized formulas covering word order, case endings, tense formation, and sentence structure, with practical examples to help you apply them immediately in exam tasks such as translation, essay writing, and speaking prompts.

欢迎使用这本不可或缺的速查手册,掌握支撑 AS AQA 德语课程的结构性“公式”。正如数学定理一样,德语语法遵循可预测的模式和规则,一旦内化,将彻底改变你在书面和口语德语中的准确性和自信心。本手册将这些规则提炼成清晰、易消化的公式,涵盖语序、格词尾、时态构成和句子结构,并提供实用范例,帮助你在翻译、短文写作和口语提示等考试任务中即时运用。

1. Verb-Second Rule (V2) | 动词第二位规则

The absolute foundation of German main clauses is the Verb-Second Rule (V2). This means the conjugated verb must always be the second element in the sentence. The first element can be the subject, an adverb, an object, or even a subordinate clause. Whatever it is, the verb follows immediately as the second idea. This rule explains why we say ‘Morgen gehe ich’ (Tomorrow go I) rather than the English word-for-word ‘Morgen ich gehe’.

德语主句的绝对基础是动词第二位规则(V2)。这意味着变位动词必须始终是句子中的第二个成分。第一个成分可以是主语、状语、宾语,甚至是一个从句。不论第一个成分是什么,动词都紧随其后作为第二个概念。这条规则解释了为什么我们说 “Morgen gehe ich”,而不是英语的逐字翻译 “Morgen ich gehe”。

  • Formula: [Element 1] + [Conjugated Verb] + [Subject] + [Other info].
    公式: [成分1] + [变位动词] + [主语] + [其他信息]。
  • Examples / 示例: Ich (subject) kaufe ein. V2 position. / Heute (adverb) kaufe (verb) ich (subject) ein. V2 still.
  • Inversion practice / 倒装练习: Am Wochenende spielen wir Tennis. (At the weekend we play tennis.)

2. Time-Manner-Place (TMP) | 时间-方式-地点 (TMP) 规则

When multiple adverbial phrases appear in a sentence, standard German word order follows the Time–Manner–Place sequence. This is a crucial ‘formula’ for constructing natural-sounding sentences and for tackling the translation from English, where the order is often reversed. Deviating from TMP will not usually make a sentence grammatically wrong, but it can sound clumsy and will be penalised for style in the AQA writing paper.

当一个句子中出现多个状语短语时,标准德语语序遵循时间-方式-地点(TMP)的顺序。这是构建自然流畅句子的关键“公式”,对于处理英译德尤其重要,因为英语的语序常常相反。偏离TMP通常不会使句子语法错误,但听起来会很别扭,并且会在AQA写作试卷中因风格问题被扣分。

  • Formula: Temporal (wann?) + Modal (wie?) + Lokal (wo? wohin?)
公式: 时间 (何时?) + 方式 (怎样?) + 地点 (哪里?去哪里?)
  • Example / 示例: Ich fahre jeden Morgen (time) mit dem Bus (manner) zur Schule (place).
  • Advanced note: The rule also applies when one element moves to position 1 for emphasis. Jeden Morgen fahre ich mit dem Bus zur Schule. The remaining adverbs still follow the TMP order.

3. Subordinate Clause Word Order (Verb-Final) | 从句语序 (动词居末)

One of the most impactful ‘theorems’ for AS German is that in any subordinate clause introduced by a subordinating conjunction (dass, weil, obwohl, wenn, etc.), the conjugated verb moves to the very end of the clause. This is non-negotiable and transforms a simple sentence into a complex one, which is essential for accessing higher marks in the AQA mark scheme (AO2: grammatical complexity).

对AS德语而言,最具影响力的“定理”之一是:在任何由从属连词(如 dass, weil, obwohl, wenn 等)引导的从句中,变位动词必须移至从句的末尾。这是不可协商的规则,它把简单句转变为复杂句,这对于在AQA评分方案(AO2:语法复杂性)中获取高分至关重要。

  • Formula: Main Clause + [subordinating conjunction + … + conjugated verb at end].
    公式: 主句 + [从属连词 + … + 变位动词在末尾].
  • Compare / 对比: Er kommt heute. (He is coming today.) → Ich weiß, dass er heute kommt.
  • Common AS connectors / AS常考连词: dass, weil, obwohl, während, bevor, nachdem, wenn, als.
  • With modal verbs: weil ich meine Hausaufgaben machen muss (the modal infinitive and finite verb go to the end together).

4. The ‘invisible’ Verb-Second in Questions | 疑问句中的“隐形”动词第二位

Yes/no questions do not need an interrogative word; instead, the conjugated verb jumps to position 1, and the subject follows. This can be thought of as the V2 rule with an omitted first element. W-questions (with question words like was, warum) simply start with that interrogative in position 1, making the verb position 2 again. Mastering both structures is essential for the speaking exam (interaction) and for understanding listening texts.

是/否疑问句不需要疑问词;相反,变位动词跳至第一位,主语紧随其后。这可以理解为省略了第一成分的V2规则。W-疑问句(带 was, warum 等疑问词)则以该疑问词开头第一位,这样动词再次处于第二位。掌握这两种结构对于口语考试(互动)和理解听力文本至关重要。

  • Yes/No Formula: [Conjugated Verb] + [Subject] + [Rest]? Example: Kommst du mit?
  • W-Question Formula: [Question Word] + [Conjugated Verb] + [Subject] + [Rest]? Example: Wann kommst du?
  • Note: In questions with a question word as subject (e.g. Wer), the verb is still second. Wer hat das gesagt?

5. Adjective Endings: The Declension ‘Theorem’ | 形容词词尾:变格“定理”

Adjective endings in German follow a systematic logic based on the article that precedes them. The endings are predictable if you learn the ‘determiner tables’. The key principle is that the determiner (der/die/das, ein/eine/ein, or kein) and the adjective work together to show the case and gender. If the determiner already shows the case unambiguously (der, dem, den), the adjective takes a weak ending (-e or -en). If the determiner is ambiguous or absent, the adjective must take the strong ending to signal the case. This filter makes the entire maze of adjective endings manageable.

德语形容词的词尾遵循基于前面冠词的系统逻辑。如果学习了“限定词表格”,词尾就是可预测的。关键原则在于限定词(der/die/das, ein/eine/ein 或 kein)与形容词共同作用来表示格和性。如果限定词已明确标示格位(如 der, dem, den),形容词则采用弱词尾(-e 或 -en)。如果限定词模糊或不存在,形容词必须采用强词尾来标示格。这个过滤器让整个形容词词尾迷宫变得易于管理。

Case/Gender After Definite Article (der/die/das) After Indefinite Article (ein/eine/ein) No Article (Strong)
Nom. Masc. der nette Mann ein netter Mann netter Mann
Acc. Masc. den netten Mann einen netten Mann netten Mann
Dat. Fem. der netten Frau einer netten Frau netter Frau
Nom. Neut. das kleine Kind ein kleines Kind kleines Kind
  • Quick-check formula: Look at what the article is doing. If the article shows case clearly (der/dem/den/das), use -e or -en. If not (ein/eine/ein or no article), the adjective must show the case via the strong ending. This rule of thumb works in most situations and is a perfect rapid-refresh before the exam.

6. Word Order with Modal Verbs | 带情态动词的语序

Modal verbs (können, müssen, dürfen, sollen, wollen, mögen/möchten) profoundly reshape sentence structure. In a main clause, the conjugated modal occupies position 2, while the dependent infinitive moves to the very end of the clause. This creates a ‘bracket’ around the rest of the sentence. In subordinate clauses, the modal verb and the infinitive both stack at the end. This pattern is heavily tested in the AQA grammar sections.

情态动词(können, müssen, dürfen, sollen, wollen, mögen/möchten)深刻地改变了句子结构。在主句中,变位的情态动词占据第二位,而依附的不定式则移至从句末尾。这在句子其余部分周围形成一个“括号”。在从句中,情态动词和不定式都堆叠在末尾。这一模式在AQA语法部分被重点考察。

  • Main Clause Formula: Subject + [Modal Verb v2] + … + [Infinitive at end].
示例: Ich muss heute meine Großeltern besuchen. (I must visit my grandparents today.)
  • Subordinate Clause Formula: …, weil ich heute meine Großeltern besuchen muss. (Note: the modal muss follows the infinitive at the end.)
  • Double infinitive construction: When a modal is used in a perfect tense with a second infinitive, the auxiliary haben and the infinitives group together. Ich habe nicht kommen können. (I was not able to come.)

7. Perfect Tense Selection (haben/sein) | 完成时助动词选择 (haben/sein)

The vast majority of German verbs form the perfect tense with haben. A small but highly frequent set of verbs use sein. The rule is deterministic: sein is used with intransitive verbs that indicate a change of state or movement from one place to another, and with sein itself, bleiben, passieren, etc. Having a clear formula prevents common errors in the AQA translation task.

绝大多数德语动词用 haben 构成完成时。一小部分但非常高频的动词使用 sein。这条规则是确定的:sein 用于表示状态变化或从一地到另一地移动的不及物动词,以及 sein 本身、bleibenpassieren 等动词。掌握清晰的公式可防止在AQA翻译任务中出现常见错误。

  • Formula with sein: Verb of movement (A → B) or state change + sein.
经典示例: Ich bin mit dem Zug gefahren. (fahren → movement); Er ist eingeschlafen. (einschlafen → state change).
  • Mnemonics: Sein applies to verbs that answer ‘what happened?’ with a change. The common AS verbs using sein are: gehen, kommen, fahren, fliegen, reisen, laufen, rennen, springen, sterben, aufwachen, werden, bleiben, sein.
  • Check: If the verb has a direct object (accusative), it must use haben. Ich habe den Wagen gefahren. (transitive use of fahren → haben).

8. Passive Voice Construction | 被动语态构成

The passive is a key structural transformation expected at AS level. The formula involves the auxiliary werden conjugated in the appropriate tense, plus the past participle of the main verb. The agent is introduced by von (+ dative). The focus on the action rather than the actor is a hallmark of formal German and frequently appears in reading texts on social or political topics in the AQA exam.

被动语态是AS阶段要求掌握的关键结构转换。公式包含在相应时态下变位的助动词 werden,加上主要动词的过去分词。动作的施事者由 von(+ 第三格)引入。将焦点放在动作而非动作发出者上是正式德语的标志,并经常出现在AQA考试中关于社会或政治话题的阅读文本里。

  • Present Passive Formula: Subject + werden (present tense) + … + Partizip II. 示例: Der Brief wird geschrieben.
  • Imperfect Passive: Der Brief wurde geschrieben.
  • Perfect Passive: Der Brief ist geschrieben worden. (Note: worden is the past participle of werden when used as a passive auxiliary, instead of geworden.)
  • Passive with modal verbs: Der Brief muss geschrieben werden. (infinitive passive at the end). Recognising this structure is vital for reading comprehension.

9. Subjunctive II (Konjunktiv II) for Hypotheticals | 第二虚拟式用于假设

In AS German, expressing conditional or hypothetical situations (if I were…, would you…?) demands the Subjunctive II mood. The most practical formula uses würde + infinitive for the vast majority of verbs, similar to English ‘would’ + infinitive. However, a handful of very common verbs have their own distinct Subjunctive II forms (hätte, wäre, könnte, möchte, wüsste, etc.), which must be used correctly to sound authentic.

在AS德语中,表达条件性或假设情况(“如果我是…”,“你会…吗?”)需要使用第二虚拟式。最实用的公式是对绝大多数动词使用 würde + 不定式,类似于英语的 ‘would’ + 不定式。然而,少数非常常见的动词有其独特的第二虚拟式形式(hätte, wäre, könnte, möchte, wüsste 等),必须正确使用才能听起来地道。

  • General Formula: würde + Infinitive (at end). 示例: Ich würde das nicht sagen.
  • Mandatory distinct forms: haben → hätte; sein → wäre; können → könnte; müssen → müsste; wollen → wollte; wissen → wüsste.
  • Example in conditional sentence: Wenn ich mehr Zeit hätte, würde ich reisen. (If I had more time, I would travel.) Note the ‘wenn’ clause uses verb-final and the distinct form hätte.
  • Using KII for polite requests in speaking: Ich möchte… is the single most useful expression.

10. The ‘Dative Next to Preposition’ Rule | 介词与格搭配速查表

Prepositions govern specific cases, and mixing them up is a common error that directly affects the accuracy mark for language (AO1) in AQA. German prepositions fall into three groups: those always followed by dative, those always followed by accusative, and two-way prepositions that take accusative for motion (wohin?) and dative for location (wo?). Having this classification at your fingertips is essential for translation and writing tasks.

介词支配特定的格,混淆它们是一个常见错误,会直接影响AQA语言准确度(AO1)的得分。德语介词分为三类:始终支配第三格的、始终支配第四格的,以及两用介词——表示移动(去哪里?)时支配第四格,表示静止位置(在哪里?)时支配第三格。在指尖上掌握这一分类对于翻译和写作任务至关重要。

Type Prepositions Example
Dative only aus, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu, gegenüber mit dem Mann
Accusative only durch, für, gegen, ohne, um, entlang* für den Mann
Two-way (Wo?/Wohin?) an, auf, hinter, in, neben, über, unter, vor, zwischen in der Stadt (location) / in die Stadt (motion)
  • Mnemonics for dative: Sing the rhyme aus bei mit nach, seit von zu. For accusative: durch für gegen ohne um. For two-way: think of a box (in, auf, unter, etc.) – if you are moving into the box, accusative; if you are inside the box, dative.

11. Negation Rules (nicht/kein) | 否定规则 (nicht/kein)

Negation in German follows a logical sequence. Kein is used to negate an indefinite noun (a/an or no article), effectively meaning ‘not a’ or ‘no’. Nicht is used to negate a verb, an adjective, a definite noun, or an entire clause. Even more importantly, the positioning of nicht follows a ‘formula’ that places it at the end of the clause, directly before the element it is negating, or before separable prefixes. Mastering this pattern eliminates a whole class of sentence-level errors.

德语否定遵循一个逻辑顺序。Kein 用于否定一个泛指名词(带不定冠词或无冠词),意思是“不是一个”或“没有”。Nicht 用于否定一个动词、形容词、特指名词或整个从句。更重要的是,nicht 的位置遵循一个“公式”,它放在从句末尾、直接放在它否定的成分之前,或者放在可分前缀之前。掌握这个模式就能消除一整类句子层面的错误。

  • Kein Formula: kein- + noun (with the same endings as mein). 示例: Ich habe keine Zeit. (I have no time.)
  • Nicht Positioning: Usually at the end, but before a separable prefix or an infinitive. Ich gehe heute nicht aus. (I am not going out today.) Er kommt heute nicht.
  • When negating a specific phrase: nicht der Chef, sondern… (not the boss, but…) — here nicht precedes the exact element.
  • Contrast for clarity / 对比清晰: Ich spreche nicht Deutsch (I don’t speak German, partial negation) vs. Ich spreche kein Deutsch (I speak no German, more natural / idiomatic).

12. Infinitive Clauses with zu (and um … zu) | 带zu的不定式从句 (以及um … zu)

Infinitive clauses with zu allow the expression of complex ideas without a subordinate clause. The separable prefix verbs insert zu between the prefix and the stem. The phrase um … zu corresponds to ‘in order to’ and is a favourite tool for showing purpose in essays and oral cards. AQA expects AS candidates to use these structures regularly to demonstrate a range of syntax.

zu 的不定式从句可以表达复杂思想,而无需使用从句。可分前缀动词将 zu 插入前缀和词干之间。短语 um … zu 相当于“为了”,是展示写作和口语卡片中目的性的理想工具。AQA期望AS考生经常使用这些结构,以展示句法多样性。

  • Simple zu-infinitive Formula: …, [zu + Infinitive (at end)]. 示例: Es ist schön, dich zu sehen.
  • Separable zu-formula: [prefix + zu + stem]. 示例: Ich habe vor, heute Abend auszugehen. (I plan to go out tonight.)
  • Purpose clause (um…zu): um + … + zu + Infinitive. 示例: Ich lerne Deutsch, um in Deutschland studieren zu können. (I learn German in order to be able to study in Germany.)
  • Note: um … zu requires the subject of the main clause and the infinitive clause to be the same. Otherwise, a damit-clause must be used.
