1. The Article Formula: Definite & Indefinite | 冠词公式:定冠词与不定冠词

The definite articles (the) in German must agree in gender and case. Learn them as a formula block: der (masculine), die (feminine), das (neuter), die (plural). For the nominative indefinite articles (a/an): ein (masc./neuter) and eine (feminine). There is no plural indefinite article; use keine for negation.

德语中的定冠词必须与名词的性和格一致。请把它们当作一个公式模块来学习:der(阳性)、die(阴性)、das(中性)、die(复数)。主格不定冠词为:ein(阳性/中性)和 eine(阴性)。复数没有不定冠词,否定时使用 keine。

Definite & Indefinite Articles (Nominative)
Masculine Feminine Neuter Plural
der / ein die / eine das / ein die / keine

2. Noun Gender & Plural Patterns | 名词的性与复数模式

Every German noun has a gender: masculine, feminine or neuter. There are some useful tendency rules: most nouns ending in -ung, -heit, -keit, -schaft, -tion are feminine; many ending in -chen, -lein are neuter; most nouns ending in -er, -el, -en are masculine.

复数形式遵循核心模式:加 -e(der Tisch → die Tische)、加 -er(das Kind → die Kinder)、加 -(e)n(die Frau → die Frauen)、加 -s(das Auto → die Autos),或者变音 + -e/-er(der Stuhl → die Stühle)。

3. Personal Pronouns: The ‘Who’ Formula | 人称代词:‘谁’的公式

Personal pronouns replace nouns and are fundamental for sentence building. Nominative forms: ich (I), du (you informal), er (he), sie (she), es (it), wir (we), ihr (you plural informal), sie (they), Sie (you formal). Always capitalise the formal ‘Sie’. Pronoun order follows standard sentence structure, but note that pronouns often come before time expressions in the middle field.

人称代词代替名词,是构建句子的基础。主格形式:ich(我)、du(你,非正式)、er(他)、sie(她)、es(它)、wir(我们)、ihr(你们,非正式)、sie(他们/她们)以及 Sie(您/你们,正式)。正式称呼 ‘Sie’ 始终要大写。代词顺序遵循标准句子结构,但要注意代词通常在中场先于时间状语出现。

4. Present Tense Conjugation: Verb Ending ‘Formula’ | 现在时变位:动词词尾‘公式’

Regular verbs follow a clear pattern. Take the stem (infinitive minus -en), then apply these endings: ich -e, du -st, er/sie/es -t, wir -en, ihr -t, sie/Sie -en. Example with ‘spielen’ (to play): ich spiele, du spielst, er spielt, wir spielen, ihr spielt, sie spielen. For stems ending -d, -t, -m, -n preceded by a consonant, add an -e- before the endings in du, er/sie/es and ihr forms (e.g. arbeiten → du arbeitest).

Pronoun Ending Example (spielen)
ich -e spiele
du -st spielst
er/sie/es -t spielt
wir -en spielen
ihr -t spielt
sie/Sie -en spielen

5. The Two Pillars: ‘haben’ and ‘sein’ | 两大支柱:‘haben’与‘sein’

‘Haben’ (to have) and ‘sein’ (to be) are irregular but essential. Memorise their present tense as fixed formulae: haben – ich habe, du hast, er hat, wir haben, ihr habt, sie haben. Sein – ich bin, du bist, er ist, wir sind, ihr seid, sie sind. They are used as main verbs and as auxiliary verbs for the Perfekt tense. Sein is used with movement or change of state; haben with most other verbs.

‘haben’(有)和 ‘sein’(是)是不规则但至关重要的动词。请将它们现在的变位当作固定公式来记忆:haben – ich habe, du hast, er hat, wir haben, ihr habt, sie haben。sein – ich bin, du bist, er ist, wir sind, ihr seid, sie sind。它们既可用作实义动词,也用作 Perfekt 时态的助动词。表示移动或状态变化时用 sein;其他大多数动词用 haben。

6. The Verb-Second Rule: Main Clause Word Order | 动词二位规则:主句语序

In a main clause (Hauptsatz), the conjugated verb must be the second element. This does not mean the second word, but the second grammatical block. The first position can be the subject, a time phrase, a place phrase or another expression. The verb remains second. Example: ‘Ich gehe heute ins Kino.’ → ‘Heute gehe ich ins Kino.’. The subject often moves behind the verb after a non-subject first element.

在主句中,变位动词必须是第二个成分。这不是指第二个单词,而是第二个语法块。第一位可以是主语、时间短语、地点短语或其他表达。动词始终位于第二位。例如:‘Ich gehe heute ins Kino.’ → ‘Heute gehe ich ins Kino.’。当第一位不是主语时,主语常常移到动词之后。

7. Modal Verbs: The ‘Two-Verb’ Formula | 情态动词:‘双动词’公式

Modal verbs (können, müssen, wollen, dürfen, sollen, mögen) modify the main verb. The pattern: modal verb in second position (conjugated), infinitive at the end. Example: ‘Ich kann gut schwimmen.’ Modal verbs have irregular stems and vowel changes; learn them individually. The ‘du’ and ‘er’ forms often lose the umlaut (können → du kannst, er kann).

情态动词(können、müssen、wollen、dürfen、sollen、mögen)修饰主动词。公式为:情态动词在第二位(按人称变位),主动词不定式位于句末。例如:‘Ich kann gut schwimmen.’。情态动词有不规则词干和元音变化;需要逐个学习。‘du’ 和 ‘er’ 等形式常常会失去变音(können → du kannst, er kann)。

Modal Verb Meaning Example (ich kann, du kannst…)
können can, to be able to kann, kannst, kann, können, könnt, können
müssen must, to have to muss, musst, muss, müssen, müsst, müssen
wollen want to will, willst, will, wollen, wollt, wollen

8. The Accusative Case Formula | 宾格(第四格)公式

The accusative case is used for the direct object of a sentence and after certain prepositions. Definite article changes: only the masculine changes from der to den. Indefinite: ein (masc.) becomes einen. Feminine, neuter and plural stay the same.

9. Preposition ‘Case Triggers’ | 介词‘格触发’公式

Prepositions in German dictate the case. Accusative-only prepositions: durch, für, gegen, ohne, um. Dative-only prepositions: aus, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu. Two-way prepositions (accusative for movement/direction, dative for location): an, auf, hinter, in, neben, über, unter, vor, zwischen. Use the mnemonic ‘DOGFU’ for accusative and sing ‘Aus, bei, mit, nach…’ for dative. Contractions often occur: in + dem = im, an + dem = am, zu + der = zur.

德语中的介词决定格位。只跟宾格的介词:durch, für, gegen, ohne, um。只跟与格的介词:aus, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu。两可介词(表示移动/方向时用宾格,表示位置时用与格):an, auf, hinter, in, neben, über, unter, vor, zwischen。助记口诀:宾格用 ‘DOGFU’,与格唱 ‘Aus, bei, mit, nach…’。介词常有缩合形式:in + dem = im,an + dem = am,zu + der = zur。

10. Question Formulae: Yes/No & W-Questions | 疑问句公式:是否问句与特殊疑问句

Yes/no questions invert the subject and the conjugated verb. The verb moves to the first position: ‘Du kommst.’ → ‘Kommst du?’. W-questions start with a question word (wer, was, wann, wo, warum, wie etc.), followed by the verb, then the subject: ‘Wann kommst du?’. Note that ‘was’ asks ‘what’ and ‘wer’ asks ‘who’. The formal question word ‘welch-‘ adapts to gender and case, e.g. ‘Welches Buch liest du?’.

是否问句将主语和变位动词倒装。动词移到了第一位:‘Du kommst.’ → ‘Kommst du?’。特殊疑问句以疑问词开头(wer、was、wann、wo、warum、wie 等),然后是动词,再是主语:‘Wann kommst du?’。注意 ‘was’ 问‘什么’,‘wer’ 问‘谁’。正式疑问词 ‘welch-’ 会根据性和格变化,例如 ‘Welches Buch liest du?’。

11. The Negation Formula: ‘nicht’ and ‘kein’ | 否定公式:‘nicht’与‘kein’

‘Nicht’ negates a whole sentence, a verb, an adjective or an adverb. Its position is flexible but general rule: it goes as far to the right as possible before the element it negates. For sentence negation, it often comes before the final infinitive or participle, or at the end of a main clause with one verb word: ‘Ich mag das nicht.’ ‘Kein’ negates nouns with an indefinite article (or no article) and takes the appropriate ending based on case and gender, e.g. ‘Ich habe kein Geld.’ (neuter accusative). ‘Nicht ein’ is rarely used; use ‘kein’.

12. Possessive ‘Formula’: mein, dein, sein… | 物主代词公式:mein, dein, sein…

Possessive adjectives correspond to the personal pronouns and behave like ‘ein’ in terms of endings. The base forms: mein (my), dein (your, informal), sein (his/its), ihr (her), unser (our), euer (your plural informal), ihr (their), Ihr (your formal). Add the same endings as for ‘ein’: masculine nominative mein, feminine meine, neuter mein, plural meine. Accusative masculine changes to meinen. Example: ‘Das ist mein Bruder.’ ‘Ich sehe meinen Bruder.’

物主形容词与人称代词对应,其词尾变化与‘ein’一样。基础形式为:mein(我的)、dein(你的)、sein(他的/它的)、ihr(她的)、unser(我们的)、euer(你们的)、ihr(他们的)、Ihr(您的/你们的)。加上与‘ein’相同的词尾:阳性主格 mein,阴性 meine,中性 mein,复数 meine。阳性宾格变为 meinen。例如:‘Das ist mein Bruder.’ ‘Ich sehe meinen Bruder.’。
