Often you must interpret a graph that combines economic data with a geographical or historical backdrop. Practise asking: Why did the population jump after the railway? (Geography: better transport attracted workers.) Why did it dip in 1950? (A natural disaster – geography – reduced living space, and jobs fell – economics.) This linking of disciplines strengthens your answers.

You must link the rise to an economic concept like ‘increased demand’.
