📚 KS3 CIE Skeleton Gapped Worksheet: Mark Scheme and Answers | KS3 CIE

This article provides a detailed mark scheme for a KS3 CIE skeleton gapped worksheet. It explains the expected answers, mark allocation, and common variations teachers should accept when marking. It is designed for Cambridge Lower Secondary Science and Checkpoint preparation.

1. What the Skeleton Gapped Worksheet Assesses |

The worksheet typically assesses three areas: the functions of the human skeleton, the names and positions of major bones, and the structure of joints. Each gap is worth one mark unless a question states otherwise. The total mark is usually 20 to 25.

If a question contains two blanks, such as “The ribcage protects the ____ and ____”, each acceptable answer receives one mark. Marks are independent, so an error in one gap does not affect another.

2. General Marking Principles |

In CIE KS3 science, spelling of technical terms is usually not penalised if the word is phonetically recognisable. However, if the misspelling changes the meaning, the mark should not be awarded. For example, “femur” written as “femer” can be accepted, but “humerus” written as “humorous” should be rejected because it is a different word.

Common names may be accepted for some bones, but the mark scheme below also shows the precise anatomical term. Teachers should use professional judgment when a learner gives an acceptable everyday name, such as “skull bone” for “cranium”.

3. Section A: Functions of the Skeleton | A 部分:骨骼的功能

The first section of the gapped worksheet asks learners to complete a function list. The most common gapped sentence is: “The human skeleton has five main functions:
