This workbook-style article covers the core skills a Grade 2 learner needs in mathematics. 1. Place Value and Number Sense | 位值与数感

In Grade 2, learners should read, write, and compare three-digit numbers. The number 547 means 5 hundreds + 4 tens + 7 ones. Understanding this helps when adding, subtracting, and rounding.

在二年级,学生应会读、写和比较三位数。547 表示 5 个百 + 4 个十 + 7 个一。理解这一点有助于加减法和估数。

Use a place-value chart to split numbers into hundreds, tens, and ones. For example, 306 has 3 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones. The zero must be written to hold the tens place.

Compare numbers by looking first at the hundreds digit. 428 is greater than 395 because 4 hundreds > 3 hundreds. Use the symbols <, >, and = correctly.

2. Addition and Subtraction Within 1000 | 1000 以内的加法与减法

Grade 2 addition includes two-digit and three-digit sums with regrouping. Example: 274 + 58 = 332. Add the ones, then the tens, then the hundreds, carrying ten ones as one ten when needed.

二年级加法包括两位数和三位数相加,并涉及进位。例如:274 + 58 = 332。先加个位,再加十位,最后加百位,必要时将 10 个一进为 1 个十。

Subtraction with borrowing is also assessed. Example: 431 – 87 = 344. Borrow one ten from the tens column when the ones digit is too small.

Mental strategies include using number bonds to 10 and 100, counting on, and using doubles. For 99 + 36, think 100 + 36 – 1 = 135.

3. Multiplication Foundations | 乘法基础

Multiplication is introduced as repeated addition. 3 × 4 means 3 groups of 4, so 4 + 4 + 4 = 12. In Grade 2, learners often practise the 2, 5, and 10 times tables.

An array shows rows and columns. For 3 × 4, draw 3 rows with 4 circles in each row. The total number is 12. This visual model supports fluency.

Use the multiplication facts: 2 × 6 = 12, 5 × 6 = 30, 10 × 6 = 60. Practise these facts until recall is quick and accurate.

4. Division Foundations | 除法基础

Division is sharing into equal groups. 12 ÷ 3 asks how many in each group when 12 objects are shared equally among 3 groups. The answer is 4.
