1. Understanding the Assessment Objectives | 理解评分目标
CCEA marks all practical art work against four Assessment Objectives: AO1 Develop, AO2 Refine, AO3 Record and AO4 Present. Each AO is not marked as a separate topic; instead, examiners judge how well your whole portfolio and final piece work together to show these skills.

You should therefore avoid treating one page as ‘the AO1 page’. A strong sketchbook page can simultaneously develop a personal idea, show refinement through tests, record observation in visual and written forms, and move toward a meaningful final response.

Examiners do not tick boxes for individual pieces. They read the whole submission and ask how far it shows fluent, purposeful and independent command of each AO.

2. How the Components Are Weighted | 各组成部分的权重
In the current CCEA Art and Design specification, Component 1 Part A: Exploratory Portfolio is usually worth 60%, Component 1 Part B: Investigating the Creative and Cultural Industries is 20%, and Component 2: Externally Set Assignment is 20%. Always confirm with your teacher, because weighting can differ across syllabus versions.

Because the exploratory portfolio carries the largest share, it is not enough to produce one or two strong pieces. You need a connected body of work that shows how your ideas grow and change over time.
