Music does not have a laboratory experiment, but the practical assessment is the equivalent of experimental evidence in science subjects: you must demonstrate real musical skills through performance, discussion and composition. In CCEA Music, practical work rewards consistent technical control, stylistic awareness and documented reflective practice.

1. Overview of the Practical Assessment | 实践考核总览

In CCEA Music, practical assessment is coursework-based and is not a single timed performance exam. The main practical units are Performing and Appraising, usually worth 35%, and Composing, usually worth 30%. Together they form a substantial part of your final grade and reward consistent, documented musical development.

2. Solo Performance Requirements | 独奏/独唱要求

You must prepare at least one solo performance on your chosen instrument or voice. The piece should demonstrate secure technique, a good tone, accurate rhythm and a clear sense of line. It must be performed live or recorded under controlled conditions, not assembled from many short edited takes.

Repertoire choice is one of the most important decisions in the practical unit. Choose a piece that you can play fluently under pressure, but which still has enough technical and musical content to access the higher mark bands. The difficulty level directly affects the marks you can achieve.
