In the CAIE A-Level Physical Education syllabus (9396), high-scoring candidates are not those who merely recall isolated facts. The exam increasingly rewards synoptic thinking: the ability to link anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, skill acquisition, sport psychology and socio-cultural issues within a single response.

Command words determine the depth and structure of your answer. Failing to distinguish ‘describe’ from ‘evaluate’ is the most common reason for lost marks in synoptic questions.
