The gradient of the radius from (3, −2) to (0, 2) is (2 − (−2))/(0 − 3) = −4/3. The tangent is perpendicular to the radius, so its gradient is 3/4. Using P(0, 2), the tangent equation is y − 2 = 3/4 x, or y = 3x/4 + 2.

Using the binomial series with n = 1/2: (1 + 3x)^(1/2) = 1 + (1/2)(3x) + (1/2)(−1/2)/(2)(3x)² + (1/2)(−1/2)(−3/2)/(6)(3x)³. This simplifies to 1 + 3x/2 − 9x²/8 + 27x³/16. The expansion is valid when |3x| < 1, so |x| < 1/3.
