📚 IELTS Writing Task 2: Question Types Explained & Preparation Tips | 雅思写作大作文题型分类详解与备考技巧

IELTS Writing Task 2 is an academic essay of at least 250 words. It counts for two-thirds of your Writing score. To succeed, you must first understand the question type, because each type demands a different structure and approach. This article explains the main question types and gives practical preparation tips.

雅思写作大作文要求考生撰写至少250词的学术议论文,占写作总分的三分之二。想要取得高分,首先要弄清题型,因为不同题型对应不同的文章结构和写作策略。本文将详细讲解主要题型,并提供实用的备考技巧。

1. Overview of IELTS Writing Task 2 | 雅思大作文概览

The task presents a statement or a question about a general topic. You are asked to give your opinion, discuss views, examine causes and solutions, or evaluate advantages and disadvantages. Examiners assess four criteria: Task Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy.

大作文会给出一个关于社会、教育、科技等常见话题的陈述或问题,要求你表达观点、讨论双方看法、分析原因与解决方案,或评估优缺点。考官根据四项标准评分:任务回应、连贯与衔接、词汇资源、语法多样性与准确性。

Understanding the question type is the first step in Task Response. If you answer the wrong question, even perfect English will not save your score. Therefore, always read the prompt carefully and identify the instruction word: “agree or disagree”, “discuss both views”, “advantages and disadvantages”, “causes and solutions”, or “two questions”.

理解题型是”任务回应”的第一步。如果答非所问,哪怕英语再完美也无法拿到高分。因此,务必仔细阅读题目,识别指令词,如”同意或不同意””讨论双方观点””优点与缺点””原因与解决方案”或”双重问题”。

2. Opinion Essays (Agree or Disagree) | 观点类(同意/不同意)

Opinion essays ask: “To what extent do you agree or disagree?” or “Do you agree or disagree?” You must take a clear position and support it with reasons and examples.

观点类题目通常问:”你在多大程度上同意或不同意?”或”你同意还是不同意?”你必须明确表态,并用理由和例子加以支撑。

A common structure is: Introduction (paraphrase the statement and state your position), Body Paragraph 1 (first reason with explanation and example), Body Paragraph 2 (second reason), and Conclusion (restate your opinion). You may also choose a balanced opinion, but you must still show a clear overall position.

常用结构为:引言(转述题目并表明立场)、主体段一(第一个理由,含解释和例证)、主体段二(第二个理由)、结论(重申观点)。你也可以采取平衡观点,但必须给出清晰的总体立场。

For example, if the question is “Some people think that unpaid community service should be a compulsory part of high school programmes. To what extent do you agree or disagree?” you could strongly agree, strongly disagree, or partially agree. Whatever you choose, stay consistent throughout the essay.

例如,题目是”有人认为义务社区服务应成为高中课程的必修部分。你在多大程度上同意或不同意?”你可以完全同意、完全反对或部分同意。无论选择哪种立场,全文都要保持一致。

3. Discussion Essays (Discuss Both Views) | 讨论类(双边讨论)

Discussion essays ask: “Discuss both views and give your own opinion.” You must explain both sides fairly, then present your own view in the introduction or conclusion.

讨论类题目通常问:”讨论双方观点并给出你自己的意见。”你需要公平地解释双方立场,然后在引言或结论中给出自己的观点。

A recommended structure is: Introduction (paraphrase the prompt and briefly state that you will discuss both sides and give your opinion), Body Paragraph 1 (View A with reasons/examples), Body Paragraph 2 (View B with reasons/examples), Conclusion (summarise and state your own view).

推荐结构为:引言(转述题目,说明将讨论双方并给出己见)、主体段一(观点A及其理由/例子)、主体段二(观点B及其理由/例子)、结论(总结并表明自己的观点)。

The key is to be balanced. Do not argue only for one side. Use phrases like “On the one hand”, “On the other hand”, “Advocates claim that…”, “Opponents argue that…”.

关键是要保持平衡。不要只论证一方。可使用”一方面……另一方面……””支持者认为……””反对者辩称……”等表达。

4. Advantages and Disadvantages Essays | 利弊类

These questions ask you to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a development or trend. You may also be asked whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

这类题目要求你讨论某个发展或趋势的优点和缺点,有时还会问”优点是否大于缺点”。

Structure: Introduction, Body Paragraph 1 (advantages with examples), Body Paragraph 2 (disadvantages with examples), Conclusion (summarise and give a clear overall judgement if asked).

结构为:引言、主体段一(优点并举例)、主体段二(缺点并举例)、结论(总结;如果题目要求,需给出明确判断)。

Use linking words such as “One evident benefit is…”, “On the downside…”, “A further drawback is…”. If the question asks “Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?”, you must explicitly state yes or no in the conclusion.

可使用连接词,如”一个明显的好处是……””不利的一面是……””另一个缺点是……”。如果题目问”优点是否大于缺点?”,你必须在结论中明确回答”是”或”否”。

5. Problem and Solution Essays | 问题解决类

Problem and solution questions usually say: “What problems does this cause? What solutions can you suggest?” Sometimes they ask for causes and solutions: “What are the causes? What are the solutions?”

问题解决类题目通常说:”这会导致哪些问题?你能提出哪些解决方案?”有时也会问原因与解决方案:”原因是什么?解决方案是什么?”

Structure: Introduction (paraphrase), Body Paragraph 1 (problem or cause with explanation), Body Paragraph 2 (solution with explanation), Conclusion (restate the problem and solution). You can also write two problems and one solution, or vice versa.

结构为:引言(转述)、主体段一(问题或原因,并解释)、主体段二(解决方案,并解释)、结论(重述问题与方案)。你也可以写两个问题配一个方案,或反过来。

Use phrases like “The main problem is…”, “This can lead to…”, “One effective solution is…”, “The government should…”. Make sure each solution directly addresses the problem you described.

可使用”主要问题是……””这可能导致……””一个有效的解决方案是……””政府应该……”等表达。务必确保每个方案都直接对应你所描述的问题。

6. Double Question Essays | 综合类(双重问题)

Double question essays contain two separate questions about one topic. For example: “Many young people today spend more time on the internet. Why is this? Is it a positive or negative development?” You must answer both questions fully.

双重问题类包含关于同一话题的两个独立问题。例如:”如今许多年轻人花更多时间上网。这是为什么?这是积极还是消极的发展?”你必须完整回答两个问题。

A good structure is: Introduction (paraphrase both questions), Body Paragraph 1 (answer to question 1), Body Paragraph 2 (answer to question 2), Conclusion (summarise both answers). Both body paragraphs should be roughly equal in length.

较好的结构是:引言(转述两个问题)、主体段一(回答第一个问题)、主体段二(回答第二个问题)、结论(总结两个答案)。两个主体段的长度应大致相当。

This type is often confused with problem/solution or opinion. The key is to treat each question as a separate task and address it explicitly. Use topic sentences such as “There are several reasons for this.” or “This trend has both positive and negative effects.”

此类题目常与问题解决类或观点类混淆。关键在于把每个问题当作独立任务来对待,并明确回应。可使用”导致这一现象的原因有几个。””这一趋势既有积极影响也有消极影响。”等主题句。

7. Positive or Negative Development | 积极/消极发展类

Some prompts ask: “Is this a positive or negative development?” This is essentially an opinion essay, but with a focus on evaluating a trend. You can argue that it is entirely positive, entirely negative, or mixed, but you must give a clear judgement.

有些题目会问:”这是积极还是消极的发展?”这本质上是观点类,但重点在于评价一个趋势。你可以论证其完全积极、完全消极或好坏参半,但必须给出明确的判断。

For this type, avoid simple listing of advantages and disadvantages. Instead, evaluate the overall impact. For example, “Although there are some drawbacks, the overall effect is positive because…” This shows higher critical thinking.

对于这类题,避免简单罗列优缺点。而是要评估整体影响。例如:”尽管存在一些弊端,但总体影响是积极的,因为……”这样可以展示更高的批判性思维。

8. How to Identify Question Types Quickly | 快速识别题型

Use the instruction words as your guide. Here is a quick reference table:

以指令词为指南。以下是快速对照表:

Question Type Key Instruction Words Required Response
Opinion agree or disagree, to what extent State and support your opinion
Discussion discuss both views, give your opinion Explain both sides + your view
Advantages / Disadvantages advantages and disadvantages, outweigh List and evaluate pros and cons
Problem / Solution problems, causes, solutions Explain problems/causes and solutions
Double Question two separate questions (e.g., Why? Is it…?) Answer both questions
Positive / Negative positive or negative development Give a clear judgement

Practice by reading real IELTS questions and underlining the instruction words. This will help you avoid misreading the task on test day.

练习时,阅读真实雅思题目并划出指令词。这将帮助你在考试当天避免误读任务。

9. Essay Structure Templates | 结构模板

A clear structure is essential for Coherence and Cohesion. Below are two widely used templates.

清晰的结构对”连贯与衔接”至关重要。以下是两个常用模板。

Template 1 (Opinion / Agree-Disagree): Introduction – background sentence + thesis statement; Body 1 – topic sentence + reason + example + explanation; Body 2 – second reason + example + explanation; Conclusion – restate opinion + summary.

模板一(观点/同意-不同意):引言——背景句+中心论点;主体段一——主题句+理由+例子+解释;主体段二——第二个理由+例子+解释;结论——重申观点+总结。

Template 2 (Discussion): Introduction – paraphrase + outline of both views; Body 1 – discuss view A; Body 2 – discuss view B; Conclusion – give your own opinion and summarise.

模板二(讨论类):引言——转述题目+概述双方观点;主体段一——讨论观点A;主体段二——讨论观点B;结论——给出自己的观点并总结。

For problem-solution and double questions, adapt the same principle: one clear main idea per paragraph, with the first sentence as a mini-thesis.

对于问题解决类和双重问题类,同样适用这一原则:每段一个明确中心思想,首句充当小论点。

10. Key Language for Each Type | 各类题型常用表达

Using precise, varied language can raise your Lexical Resource score. Here are some useful expressions organised by function.

使用准确、多样的表达可以提升”词汇资源”的分数。以下是一些按功能分类的实用表达。

For opinions: “In my view”, “I firmly believe”, “It seems to me”, “From my perspective”. For discussion: “Some argue that”, “Proponents of this view believe”, “On the other hand”. For advantages: “A key advantage”, “One major benefit”, “This enables”. For disadvantages: “A serious drawback”, “This may lead to”, “A potential risk”.

表达观点:”在我看来””我坚信””我觉得””从我的角度”。讨论:”有人主张””这一观点的支持者认为””另一方面”。优点:”一个关键优势””一个主要好处””这使……能够”。缺点:”一个严重缺陷””这可能导致””一个潜在风险”。

For problems/solutions: “This poses a considerable problem”, “To tackle this issue”, “A practical measure would be”, “This requires a joint effort from governments and individuals”. For evaluation: “On balance”, “The benefits outweigh the costs”, “Overall, this is a positive trend”.

问题/解决方案:”这构成了一个相当大的问题””要解决这个问题””一个实用的措施是””这需要政府和个人的共同努力”。评价:”总体而言””利大于弊””总的来说,这是一个积极的趋势”。

Avoid memorising overly long phrases that are hard to fit naturally. Build a personal phrase bank with short, flexible items.

不要死记硬背冗长且难以自然套用的短语。建立自己的短语库,选择简短、灵活的表达。
