Every August, thousands of students open their results and feel that the mark does not match the paper they actually wrote. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland the formal route is called an ‘enquiry about results’ – almost everyone calls it a ‘remark’, and Cambridge International calls it an EAR. This guide explains the services on offer, who is allowed to apply, the deadlines, the fees, and what happens if the mark changes.

1. Which Services Can You Ask For? | 可以申请哪些服务？

Exam boards offer four main enquiry services, and confusing them is the most common mistake students make. A clerical check looks only at whether marks were totalled and transferred correctly. A review of marking asks a second examiner to check whether the first examiner applied the mark scheme correctly. A review of moderation re-examines the marks a centre gave for coursework. A priority review is simply a fast-tracked review of marking.

考试局主要提供四种查询服务，把它们搞混是学生最常犯的错误。行政核查只看分数有没有加错、有没有抄错；阅卷复核是请另一位阅卷老师检查前一位是否严格按评分标准给分；审核复核是重新检查考试中心给课程作业打的分；优先复核则是加速处理的阅卷复核。

Clerical check / clerical re-check. The board verifies totals, transcription and administration. It never re-reads your answers. It is the cheapest option and it rarely changes a grade.

行政核查（Clerical check / re-check）。考试局只核对总分、分数转录和行政流程，不会重新阅读你的答案。这是最便宜的一项，但很少会改变等级。

Review of marking. A different examiner reviews the marking against the mark scheme. This is what most people actually mean by a ‘remark’.

阅卷复核（Review of marking）。由另一位阅卷老师对照评分标准检查原阅卷是否准确，这才是大多数人真正想申请的「复核」。

Review of moderation. Used for non-exam assessment such as coursework, art portfolios and speaking tests. The board re-checks the centre’s marks, not an individual student’s work, so you cannot request moderation for one candidate only.

审核复核（Review of moderation）。用于非考试评估，比如课程作业、艺术作品集和口语考试。考试局重新检查的是「考试中心打的分」，而不是某位学生的作业，因此不能只针对一名考生申请。

Priority review of marking. The same service as a review of marking, but with a guaranteed fast turnaround for candidates whose university place depends on the outcome.
