1. The Registration Portal and Its Payment Gateway | 报名系统与支付网关
All IELTS registrations in mainland China are handled through the NEEA IELTS online registration system, operated by the National Education Examinations Authority in cooperation with the British Council and Cambridge. The site functions as both an examination authority and a merchant: once you select a test session, the system generates a payment order and transfers you to a bank-grade payment gateway.

Together they span the three dominant payment habits in mainland China: scanning a QR code with a phone, entering a bank card number on a desktop browser, and logging into a bank’s own payment account. If one route is blocked by a card limit or an app problem, the others usually still work.

It is worth noting what is not supported. International cards such as Visa or Mastercard issued outside mainland China are generally not accepted directly on the NEEA portal, and cash payment at a bank counter is not part of the online flow.
同样值得注意的是不被支持的方式。中国大陆境外发行的 Visa、Mastercard 等国际卡通常无法直接在 NEEA 报名系统上使用，到银行柜台现金缴费也不属于在线报名流程的一部分。

Alipay is the default choice for the overwhelming majority of candidates because it removes the need to type a long card number and because almost every adult in mainland China already has a verified account.

When you choose Alipay at checkout, the browser or app switches to an Alipay payment page. You then either scan a QR code with the Alipay app or log in directly, confirm the amount, and authorise the transaction with your payment password, fingerprint or face recognition.

Despite the name, BOC Smart Pay is not restricted to Bank of China customers. It is an aggregated gateway built by Bank of China that routes transactions through the UnionPay network, which means debit and credit cards from most Chinese commercial banks can be used.
尽管名字里带有”中银”，中银智慧付并不只限中国银行客户使用。它是由中国银行搭建的聚合网关，交易通过银联网络路由，这意味着大多数中国商业银行的借记卡与信用卡都可以使用。
The flow is more traditional than Alipay: you select your card type, enter the card number, expiry date and the security code on the back, then receive a one-time SMS verification code on the mobile number registered with the issuing bank.

This channel is especially useful on desktop computers, where scanning a QR code is awkward. It also suits candidates who do not use Alipay, or whose parents are paying on their behalf with a bank card.

Two limitations deserve attention. First, online payment must be enabled for the card; some cards are issued with e-commerce functions switched off by default. Second, each bank sets its own per-transaction limit, and a card capped at a few hundred yuan will fail even if the balance is sufficient.

CMB All-in-One is a payment product of China Merchants Bank that connects the merchant directly with the bank’s own account system. It is primarily designed for China Merchants Bank cardholders and customers who hold an All-in-One account.
招行一网通是招商银行的支付产品，把商户与银行自身的账户体系直接连接起来。它主要面向招商银行持卡人以及持有一网通账户的客户。
To pay, you select CMB All-in-One on the checkout page, log in with your All-in-One username or card number, receive an SMS code on your registered mobile number, and confirm with your payment password.
支付时，你在结算页选择招行一网通，用一网通用户名或卡号登录，接收发送至预留手机号的短信验证码，再用支付密码确认。
Because the route is direct, settlement is fast and the confirmation message usually appears on the NEEA page within seconds. That speed matters when a seat is being competed for in real time.
由于是直连通道，结算速度很快，NEEA 页面上的确认信息通常在几秒内出现。在考位被实时争抢的情况下，这种速度非常关键。
The obvious constraint is availability: if you do not hold a China Merchants Bank card or an All-in-One account, this channel is not for you. Some scenarios allow other banks’ cards through a UnionPay fallback, but this depends entirely on what the payment page displays at that moment.

6. Paying with Alipay, Step by Step | 支付宝支付分步操作
Step 1 – Log in and select a session. Sign in to your NEEA IELTS account, choose the test type (Academic, General Training or UKVI), then pick a city, date and session with available seats.
