    📚 IB & OCR Physics: Calculation Practice Drills | IB OCR 物理:计算题专项训练

    Mastering calculation problems is the backbone of success in both IB and OCR Physics. This article provides a focused set of drills covering essential formulas, unit checks, and common pitfalls. You will build confidence in applying the right equation, handling significant figures, and converting between units under exam pressure.

    1. Unit & Dimensional Analysis | 单位与量纲分析

    Always verify that your final answer has correct SI units. Dimensional analysis helps catch algebraic mistakes before you plug in numbers. For example, if you derive a speed and end up with units of m·s or kg·m·s⁻¹, you know something is wrong.

    始终检查最终答案是否具有正确的国际单位。量纲分析能在代入数字前发现代数错误。例如,若你推导出的速度单位是 m·s 或 kg·m·s⁻¹,就说明出错了。

    • Write down units for every quantity in an equation.
    • 写出方程中每个物理量的单位。
    • Treat units as algebraic symbols that can be multiplied, divided, or cancelled.
    • 将单位视为可以相乘、相除或约分的代数符号。

    Pressure = Force / Area → Pa = N / m² = kg·m⁻¹·s⁻²

    2. Kinematic Equations & Graphs | 运动学方程与图像分析

    For constant acceleration in a straight line, the SUVAT equations are your toolkit. Always define a positive direction and check the sign of each quantity. The equations are: v = u + at, s = ut + ½at², v² = u² + 2as, and s = ½(u + v)t.

    对匀加速直线运动,SUVAT 方程是你的工具箱。务必定义正方向并检查每个量的正负。这些方程为:v = u + at、s = ut + ½at²、v² = u² + 2as 和 s = ½(u + v)t。

    • Use the equation that does not require the unknown you are trying to find.
    • 使用不包含所求未知量的方程。
    • Interpret the gradient of a displacement–time graph as velocity, and the area under a velocity–time graph as displacement.
    • 理解位移–时间图像的斜率代表速度,速度–时间图像下的面积代表位移。

    3. Newton’s Laws & Free-Body Diagrams | 牛顿定律与受力分析

    Newton’s second law, Fnet = ma, must be applied after identifying all forces. Draw a free-body diagram, resolve forces into perpendicular components, and write equations for each axis. Friction is often f = μN, where N is the normal reaction.

    应用牛顿第二定律 Fnet = ma 前,必须先识别所有力。画出受力分析图,将力正交分解,并对每个轴列出方程。摩擦力通常为 f = μN,其中 N 是法向反作用力。

    • In equilibrium, net force and net torque are zero.
    • 在平衡状态下,合力和合力矩均为零。
    • For connected bodies, treat the whole system to find acceleration, then examine individual parts for internal forces.
    • 对于连接体,先分析整体求加速度,再隔离分析各部分求内力。

    4. Work, Energy & Power | 功、能与功率

    The work–energy theorem links force, displacement, and speed. Kinetic energy is Ek = ½mv², and gravitational potential energy near Earth’s surface is Ep = mgh. Power is the rate of doing work: P = W/t = Fv for constant velocity.

    功能定理将力、位移和速度联系起来。动能为 Ek = ½mv²,地表附近的重力势能为 Ep = mgh。功率是做功的快慢:匀速时 P = W/t = Fv。

    • In the absence of non-conservative forces, mechanical energy is conserved.
    • 在无非保守力的情况下,机械能守恒。
    • Always use metres for extension x in Eelastic = ½kx².
    • 在弹性势能 Eelastic = ½kx² 中,伸长量 x 必须用米作单位。

    5. Momentum & Impulse | 动量与冲量

    Momentum p = mv is a vector. Impulse equals the change in momentum: J = FΔt = Δp. In collisions, use conservation of momentum, but remember kinetic energy is only conserved in perfectly elastic collisions.

    动量 p = mv 是矢量。冲量等于动量的变化:J = FΔt = Δp。碰撞问题中应用动量守恒,但切记只有完全弹性碰撞中动能才守恒。

    • For two-body explosions or collisions in one dimension: m₁u₁ + m₂u₂ = m₁v₁ + m₂v₂.
    • 对于一维两体爆炸或碰撞:m₁u₁ + m₂u₂ = m₁v₁ + m₂v₂。
    • The sign of velocity must reflect direction; choose a positive reference and stick to it.
    • 速度的正负必须反映方向;选定一个正方向并始终沿用。

    6. Circular Motion & Gravitation | 圆周运动与万有引力

    Uniform circular motion requires a centripetal force: F = mv²/r = mω²r, where v = ωr and ω = 2π/T. Gravitation provides this force for orbits: F = Gm₁m₂/r².

    匀速圆周运动需要向心力:F = mv²/r = mω²r,其中 v = ωr、ω = 2π/T。在轨道运动中,万有引力充当向心力:F = Gm₁m₂/r²。

    • For a satellite, equate GmM/r² = mv²/r to derive v = √(GM/r).
    • 对于卫星,令 GmM/r² = mv²/r 可推出 v = √(GM/r)。
    • Centripetal acceleration always points towards the centre, but the tangential speed is constant in uniform circular motion.
    • 向心加速度总是指向圆心,但切向速率在匀速圆周运动中保持不变。

    7. Electric Circuits & Kirchhoff’s Laws | 电路与基尔霍夫定律

    Ohm’s law V = IR applies to ohmic components. Power dissipated is P = IV = I²R = V²/R. Kirchhoff’s current law states that the sum of currents entering a junction equals the sum leaving. Kirchhoff’s voltage law states the sum of emfs equals the sum of p.d.s around a closed loop.

    欧姆定律 V = IR 适用于欧姆元件。功率消耗为 P = IV = I²R = V²/R。基尔霍夫电流定律指出流入节点的电流总和等于流出总和。基尔霍夫电压定律指出闭合回路中电动势之和等于电势差之和。

    • For resistors in series: Rtotal = R₁ + R₂; in parallel: 1/Rtotal = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂.
    • 电阻串联:R总 = R₁ + R₂;并联:1/R总 = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂。
    • Include internal resistance r in real batteries: terminal p.d. = ε − Ir.
    • 实际电池需计入内阻 r:路端电压 = ε − Ir。

    8. Thermal Physics & Gas Laws | 热物理与气体定律

    The ideal gas equation is pV = nRT, where T must be in kelvin. The average kinetic energy of a molecule is Ek = (3/2)kBT. In a sealed container, use p₁V₁/T₁ = p₂V₂/T₂ for fixed mass of gas.

    理想气体状态方程为 pV = nRT,其中温度必须用开尔文。分子的平均动能为 Ek = (3/2)kBT。对密封容器内的固定质量气体,可用 p₁V₁/T₁ = p₂V₂/T₂。

    • When volume is constant, p ∝ T; when pressure is constant, V ∝ T.
    • 体积不变时,p ∝ T;压强不变时,V ∝ T。

    • 比热容:Q = mcΔθ;潜热:Q = mL。

    9. Wave Optics & Interference | 波动光学与干涉

    1. Radioactive Decay Law Derivation | 放射性衰变定律推导

    The rate of decay of a radioactive sample is directly proportional to the number of undecayed nuclei present. We start with the observation that the activity –dN/dt ∝ N, where N is the number of nuclei. Introducing a decay constant λ gives the differential equation dN/dt = –λ N. Separating variables yields dN/N = –λ dt, and integrating both sides leads to ln N = –λ t + constant. Using the initial condition N = N₀ at t = 0, the constant becomes ln N₀. Hence, the solution is N = N₀ e⁻λᵗ, describing exponential decay.

    放射性样品的衰变速率与尚未衰变的原子核数目成正比。从–dN/dt ∝ N出发,引入衰变常数λ得到微分方程dN/dt = –λ N。分离变量得dN/N = –λ dt,两边积分得到ln N = –λ t + 常数。利用初始条件t = 0时N = N₀,常数确定为ln N₀。因此解为N = N₀ e⁻λᵗ,这就是指数衰变律。

    dN/dt = –λ N → N = N₀ e⁻λᵗ

    2. Half-Life Equation | 半衰期方程

    The half‑life T½ is the time taken for the number of nuclei to halve. Substituting N = N₀/2 into the decay law gives N₀/2 = N₀ e⁻λ T½, which simplifies to ½ = e⁻λ T½. Taking natural logarithms yields ln(½) = –λ T½, and since ln(½) = –ln 2, we obtain –ln 2 = –λ T½. Therefore, the half‑life is T½ = ln 2 / λ, independent of the initial quantity.

    半衰期T½是原子核数目减半所需的时间。将N = N₀/2代入衰变律得N₀/2 = N₀ e⁻λ T½,化简为½ = e⁻λ T½。两边取自然对数得ln(½) = –λ T½,由于ln(½)= –ln 2,得到–ln 2 = –λ T½。因此半衰期为T½ = ln 2 / λ,与初始数量无关。

    T½ = ln 2 / λ

    3. Activity and Decay Constant | 活度与衰变常数

    Activity A is defined as the number of decays per unit time, i.e. A = –dN/dt. From the decay law, –dN/dt = λ N, so A = λ N. The unit of activity is the becquerel (Bq), equivalent to one decay per second. This relation shows that activity decreases exponentially with time, following the same behaviour as N: A = λ N₀ e⁻λᵗ = A₀ e⁻λᵗ.

    活度A定义为单位时间内的衰变次数,即A = –dN/dt。由衰变律得–dN/dt = λ N,因此A = λ N。活度的单位是贝克勒尔(Bq),相当于每秒一次衰变。该关系表明活度也随时间指数衰减,遵循与N相同的规律:A = λ N₀ e⁻λᵗ = A₀ e⁻λᵗ。

    A = λ N → A = A₀ e⁻λᵗ

    4. Kinetic Theory: Pressure of an Ideal Gas | 分子动理论:理想气体的压强

    Consider a single molecule of mass m moving with speed vₓ in a cubical container of side L. Each collision with a wall reverses the perpendicular velocity component, giving a momentum change of 2m vₓ. The time between collisions with the same wall is 2L/vₓ, so the average force on that wall is F₁ = (2m vₓ) / (2L/vₓ) = m vₓ² / L. Summing over all N molecules, the total force on one wall is F = (m/L) Σ vₓ². The pressure p is F / L², so p = (m/L³) Σ vₓ² = (m/V) Σ vₓ². Using the mean square speed ⟨vₓ²⟩ = (1/N) Σ vₓ², we get p = (N m / V) ⟨vₓ²⟩. Because motions in x, y, z directions are equally likely, ⟨v²⟩ = ⟨vₓ²⟩ + ⟨v_y²⟩ + ⟨v_z²⟩ = 3⟨vₓ²⟩, hence ⟨vₓ²⟩ = ⅓⟨c²⟩ where c = |v|. Substituting gives p = ⅓ (N m / V) ⟨c²⟩, or p = ⅓ ρ ⟨c²⟩ with density ρ = N m / V.

    考虑一个质量为m的分子以速度分量vₓ在边长为L的立方容器中运动。每次与器壁碰撞,垂直分量反向,动量改变为2m vₓ。与同一壁的两次碰撞间的时间为2L/vₓ,因此作用于该壁的平均力为F₁ = (2m vₓ) / (2L/vₓ) = m vₓ² / L。对全部N个分子求和,施加于一面壁的总力为F = (m/L) Σ vₓ²。压强p = F / L²,故p = (m/L³) Σ vₓ² = (m/V) Σ vₓ²。引入均方速率⟨vₓ²⟩ = (1/N) Σ vₓ²,得p = (N m / V) ⟨vₓ²⟩。由于x、y、z方向运动等概率,⟨v²⟩ = ⟨vₓ²⟩ + ⟨v_y²⟩ + ⟨v_z²⟩ = 3⟨vₓ²⟩,因此⟨vₓ²⟩ = ⅓⟨c²⟩,其中c为速度大小。代入后得到p = ⅓ (N m / V) ⟨c²⟩,或者用密度ρ = N m / V表示为p = ⅓ ρ ⟨c²⟩。

    p = ⅓ (N m / V) ⟨c²⟩ = ⅓ ρ ⟨c²⟩

    5. Mean Kinetic Energy and Absolute Temperature | 平均动能与绝对温度

    The ideal gas equation in terms of number of molecules is pV = N k T, where k is the Boltzmann constant. Equating this with the pressure derived from kinetic theory, N k T = ⅓ N m ⟨c²⟩. Cancelling N and rearranging gives ½ m ⟨c²⟩ = (3/2) k T. The left‑hand side is precisely the mean translational kinetic energy of a molecule. Thus, the absolute temperature of an ideal gas is a direct measure of the average random kinetic energy of its particles.

    用分子数表示的理想气体方程为pV = N k T,其中k为玻尔兹曼常数。令此式与动理论推导的压强相等,得N k T = ⅓ N m ⟨c²⟩。消去N并整理,即得½ m ⟨c²⟩ = (3/2) k T。等式左边正是分子的平均平动动能。因此,理想气体的绝对温度是其粒子平均无规则动能的直接量度。

    ½ m ⟨c²⟩ = (3/2) k T

    6. Ideal Gas Equation pV = NkT | 理想气体状态方程 pV = NkT

    Combining the kinetic pressure expression p = ⅓ (N/V) m ⟨c²⟩ with the kinetic‑energy–temperature relation ½ m ⟨c²⟩ = (3/2) k T yields p = ⅓ (N/V) · 2·(½ m ⟨c²⟩) = ⅓ (N/V) · 2·(3/2) k T = (N/V) k T. Multiplying both sides by V recovers the familiar form pV = N k T. This derivation bridges microscopic mechanics and macroscopic thermodynamics, showing that macroscopic state variables emerge from molecular motion.

    将动理论压强表达式p = ⅓ (N/V) m ⟨c²⟩与动能-温度关系½ m ⟨c²⟩ = (3/2) k T结合,得到p = ⅓ (N/V) · 2·(½ m ⟨c²⟩) = ⅓ (N/V) · 2·(3/2) k T = (N/V) k T。两边同乘V即得常见的pV = N k T。该推导在微观力学与宏观热力学之间架起了桥梁,表明宏观状态量源于分子运动。

    pV = N k T

    7. Simple Harmonic Motion: Defining Equation | 简谐运动:定义方程

    Simple harmonic motion (SHM) occurs when the restoring force on an object is directly proportional to its displacement from equilibrium and acts in the opposite direction. For a mass–spring system, Hooke’s law gives F = –k x. Using Newton’s second law, F = m a, we obtain m a = –k x, or a = –(k/m) x. Defining the constant ω² = k/m, the acceleration becomes a = –ω² x. This differential equation defines SHM and can be written as d²x/dt² = –ω² x.

    当物体所受的回复力与其离开平衡位置的位移成正比且方向相反时,物体便做简谐运动(SHM)。对于弹簧振子,胡克定律给出F = –k x。应用牛顿第二定律F = m a,得m a = –k x,即a = –(k/m) x。定义常数ω² = k/m,加速度即写为a = –ω² x。该微分方程定义了简谐运动,亦可表示为d²x/dt² = –ω² x。

    a = –ω² x or d²x/dt² = –ω² x

    8. Displacement–Time Solution for SHM | 简谐运动的位移–时间解

    The equation d²x/dt² = –ω² x is a second‑order linear differential equation whose general solution is x = A cos(ω t + φ) or equivalently x = A sin(ω t + φ). The constants A (amplitude) and φ (phase constant) are determined by initial conditions. Starting from x = A cos(ω t), velocity is v = dx/dt = –A ω sin(ω t), and acceleration is a = dv/dt = –A ω² cos(ω t) = –ω² x, confirming it satisfies the SHM equation. The system undergoes sinusoidal oscillations with angular frequency ω and period T = 2π/ω.

    方程d²x/dt² = –ω² x是一个二阶线性微分方程,其通解为x = A cos(ω t + φ)或等价形式x = A sin(ω t + φ)。常数A(振幅)和φ(初相)由初始条件决定。以x = A cos(ω t)为例,速度为v = dx/dt = –A ω sin(ω t),加速度为a = dv/dt = –A ω² cos(ω t) = –ω² x,验证其满足简谐运动方程。系统以角频率ω作正弦振荡,周期T = 2π/ω。

    x = A cos(ω t) → v = –A ω sin(ω t) → a = –A ω² cos(ω t)

    9. Gravitational Potential Energy Derivation | 引力势能推导

    The gravitational potential energy U at a distance r from a mass M is obtained by considering the work done against gravity to bring a test mass m from infinity to that point. The gravitational force is F = –(G M m / r²) r̂, where the negative sign indicates attraction. Choosing the potential energy at infinity to be zero, the change in potential energy is ΔU = –∫ F·dr. Taking the radial outward path, the work done by the gravitational force is ∫_{∞}^{r} –(G M m / r²) dr = [G M m / r]_{∞}^{r} = G M m / r. Since ΔU = U(r) – U(∞) = –(work done by field), we obtain U(r) = –G M m / r. This negative value reflects the bound nature of the system.

    距离质量M为r处的引力势能U,通过将检验质量m从无穷远移至该点时克服引力做的功来求得。引力为F = –(G M m / r²) r̂,负号表示吸引。选无穷远处势能为零,势能的变化量为ΔU = –∫ F·dr。沿径向向外路径,引力所做的功为∫_{∞}^{r} –(G M m / r²) dr = [G M m / r]_{∞}^{r} = G M m / r。由于ΔU = U(r) – U(∞) = –(场力做功),故得U(r) = –G M m / r。负值反映出系统的束缚特性。

    U = –G M m / r

    10. Escape Velocity Derivation | 逃逸速度推导

    Escape velocity is the minimum speed needed for an object to leave a planet’s gravitational field without further propulsion, i.e. to reach infinite distance with zero final kinetic energy. Using energy conservation: total energy at the surface (kinetic + potential) must equal total energy at infinity (zero). Thus, ½ m v² + (–G M m / R) = 0. Solving for v gives v² = 2 G M / R, so the escape velocity is v_esc = √(2 G M / R). This expression is independent of the object’s mass and depends only on the planet’s mass M and radius R.

    逃逸速度是物体脱离行星引力场无需继续推进所需的最小速度,即到达无穷远处时动能恰好为零。利用能量守恒:表面处的总能量(动能加势能)必须等于无穷远处的总能量(设为零)。因此,½ m v² + (–G M m / R) = 0。解出v得v² = 2 G M / R,于是逃逸速度为v_esc = √(2 G M / R)。该表达式与物体质量无关,仅取决于行星的质量M与半径R。

    v_esc = √(2 G M / R)

    1. Nuclear Structure: Protons and Neutrons | 原子核结构:质子和中子

    All matter is composed of atoms, each containing a tiny, dense nucleus surrounded by electrons. The nucleus itself consists of two types of nucleons: positively charged protons and electrically neutral neutrons. The number of protons, known as the atomic number Z, defines the element, while the total number of nucleons is the mass number A. Thus, the neutron number N is given by N = A – Z. The radius of a nucleus is approximately R = r₀A1/3, where r₀ ≈ 1.2 fm, indicating that nuclear volume is proportional to the mass number.

    所有物质都由原子组成,每个原子包含一个微小致密的原子核和绕核电子。原子核由两类核子组成:带正电的质子和电中性的中子。质子数称为原子序数 Z,决定元素种类;核子总数称为质量数 A。因此,中子数 N 由 N = A – Z 给出。原子核半径近似为 R = r₀A1/3,其中 r₀ ≈ 1.2 fm,表明核体积与质量数成正比。

    2. Isotopes and Nuclides | 同位素与核素

    Isotopes are atoms of the same element (same Z) that have different numbers of neutrons, and therefore different mass numbers. For example, carbon-12 (¹²C) and carbon-14 (¹⁴C) are both isotopes of carbon, with Z = 6 but A = 12 and 14 respectively. The term nuclide refers to a particular nuclear species characterised by a specific Z and A. Nuclides may be stable or unstable (radioactive). Isotopes share almost identical chemical properties but can differ significantly in nuclear stability and mass.

    同位素是同一元素(相同 Z)的原子,具有不同中子数,因而质量数不同。例如,碳-12(¹²C)和碳-14(¹⁴C)都是碳的同位素,Z = 6,A 分别为 12 和 14。术语“核素”指具有特定 Z 和 A 的某种原子核。核素可以是稳定的或不稳定的(放射性)。同位素化学性质几乎相同,但在核稳定性和质量上可能差异显著。

    3. The Strong Nuclear Force | 强核力

    Inside the nucleus, protons experience a repulsive Coulomb force. To hold the nucleus together, a short-range attractive force called the strong nuclear force acts between nucleons. This force is independent of charge (it acts equally between proton–proton, neutron–neutron, and proton–neutron pairs) and is effective only over distances of about 1–3 fm. At separations smaller than about 0.5 fm, the force becomes repulsive, preventing the nucleons from collapsing into each other. The strong nuclear force is fundamental to understanding binding energy and nuclear stability.

    在原子核内部,质子间存在库仑斥力。为了将原子核束缚在一起,核子间存在一种短程吸引力,称为强核力。这种力与电荷无关(在质子-质子、中子-中子、质子-中子对之间作用相同),仅在约 1–3 fm 的距离内有效。在小于约 0.5 fm 的间距下,力变为排斥性,阻止核子坍缩到一起。强核力是理解结合能和核稳定性的基础。

    4. Mass Defect and Binding Energy | 质量亏损与结合能

    The mass of a nucleus is always slightly less than the sum of the masses of its individual protons and neutrons. This difference is called the mass defect, Δm. According to Einstein’s mass–energy equivalence E = mc², this missing mass is equivalent to the binding energy of the nucleus: EB = Δm c². The binding energy represents the energy required to separate a nucleus into its constituent nucleons. In calculations, atomic mass units (u) are commonly used, with 1 u = 931.5 MeV/c², so binding energy can be expressed in MeV.

    原子核的质量总是略小于其各个质子和中子质量之和。这个差值称为质量亏损 Δm。根据爱因斯坦质能方程 E = mc²,这一亏损的质量等价于原子核的结合能:EB = Δm c²。结合能表示将原子核拆散成其组成核子所需的能量。计算中常用原子质量单位 u,1 u = 931.5 MeV/c²,因此结合能可用 MeV 表示。

    5. Binding Energy per Nucleon | 每个核子的结合能

    Dividing the total binding energy by the number of nucleons A gives the binding energy per nucleon. This quantity is a measure of nuclear stability: the higher the binding energy per nucleon, the more tightly bound and stable the nucleus. A graph of binding energy per nucleon against mass number shows a peak around iron-56 (⁵⁶Fe), with about 8.8 MeV per nucleon. Light nuclei can release energy by fusion (moving up the curve toward iron), while heavy nuclei can release energy by fission (moving up the curve from the right). All stable nuclei have binding energies per nucleon ranging roughly between 7.5 and 8.8 MeV.

    将总结合能除以核子数 A 得到每个核子的结合能。这个量是核稳定性的量度:每个核子的结合能越高,原子核结合得越紧、越稳定。每个核子结合能与质量数的关系图在铁-56(⁵⁶Fe)附近出现峰值,约 8.8 MeV/核子。轻核可通过聚变释放能量(向铁的方向向上移动),重核可通过裂变释放能量(从右侧向上移动)。所有稳定核素的每个核子结合能大约在 7.5 到 8.8 MeV 之间。

    6. Nuclear Fission | 核裂变

    Nuclear fission is the splitting of a heavy nucleus into two (or occasionally more) smaller fragments, accompanied by the release of energy and typically several neutrons. Uranium-235 and plutonium-239 are common fissile isotopes. A fission reaction may be induced by neutron capture, for example: ¹n + ²³⁵U → ¹⁴¹Ba + ⁹²Kr + 3 ¹n + energy. The released neutrons can trigger a chain reaction if a critical mass of fissile material is present. Fission is the principle behind nuclear power plants and atomic bombs.

    核裂变是一个重核分裂成两个(偶尔更多)较小碎片的过程,同时释放能量并通常伴随几个中子。铀-235 和钚-239 是常见的易裂变同位素。裂变反应可由中子俘获引发,例如:¹n + ²³⁵U → ¹⁴¹Ba + ⁹²Kr + 3 ¹n + 能量。释放的中子在存在临界质量的裂变材料时可引发链式反应。裂变是核电站和原子弹的原理基础。

    7. Nuclear Fusion | 核聚变

    In nuclear fusion, two light nuclei combine to form a heavier nucleus, releasing a large amount of energy. Fusion powers the Sun and other stars, where hydrogen nuclei fuse into helium via the proton–proton chain. A typical reaction is: ²H + ³H → ⁴He + ¹n + 17.6 MeV. For fusion to occur, extremely high temperatures (millions of kelvin) are needed to overcome the Coulomb repulsion between positively charged nuclei. This is why fusion is also called a thermonuclear reaction. Controlled fusion on Earth remains a major scientific and engineering challenge.

    在核聚变中,两个轻核结合形成一个更重的核,释放出大量能量。聚变是太阳和其他恒星的能量来源,氢核通过质子-质子链反应聚变成氦。典型的反应为:²H + ³H → ⁴He + ¹n + 17.6 MeV。要发生聚变,需要极高温度(数百万开尔文)来克服带正电核间的库仑斥力,因此聚变也称为热核反应。地球上受控聚变仍是一项重大的科学和工程挑战。

    8. Radioactive Decay: Activity and Decay Constant | 放射衰变:活度和衰变常量

    Radioactive decay is a spontaneous process in which an unstable nucleus emits radiation to become more stable. The activity A of a radioactive sample is the number of decays per unit time, measured in becquerels (Bq), where 1 Bq = 1 decay per second. Activity is proportional to the number of undecayed nuclei N present: A = λN, where λ is the decay constant, characteristic of the nuclide. The decay constant λ is the probability per unit time that a given nucleus will decay.

    放射衰变是不稳定原子核自发发射辐射以变得更稳定的过程。放射性样品的活度 A 是单位时间内的衰变次数,单位为贝克勒尔(Bq),1 Bq = 1 次衰变/秒。活度与现存未衰变的原子核数 N 成正比:A = λN,其中 λ 为衰变常量,是该核素的特征量。衰变常量 λ 是给定原子核单位时间内衰变的概率。

    9. Exponential Decay Law and Half-Life | 指数衰变定律与半衰期

    The number of undecayed nuclei follows an exponential law: N = N₀e–λt. Consequently, activity also decreases exponentially: A = A₀e–λt. The half-life T½ is the time taken for half the radioactive nuclei in a sample to decay, and is related to the decay constant by: T½ = ln 2 / λ. Half-life is a constant for a given nuclide and is independent of initial quantity. In CIE exams, students are expected to use these equations to solve problems involving activity, number of nuclei, and time.

    未衰变核的数量遵循指数定律:N = N₀e–λt。因此,活度也按指数减小:A = A₀e–λt。半衰期 T½ 是样品中一半放射性核衰变所需的时间,与衰变常量的关系为:T½ = ln 2 / λ。半衰期对于给定核素是常数,与初始数量无关。在 CIE 考试中,学生需要运用这些方程解决涉及活度、核子数和时间的问题。

    10. Types of Radiation: Alpha, Beta, Gamma | 辐射类型:α、β、γ

    Three main types of radiation are emitted during decay. Alpha (α) particles are helium-4 nuclei (⁴He2+); they have a short range in air, are highly ionising, and can be stopped by paper or skin. Beta (β) particles are fast-moving electrons (β⁻) or positrons (β⁺); they have moderate penetrating power, stopped by a few millimetres of aluminium. Gamma (γ) rays are high-frequency electromagnetic waves; they are weakly ionising but highly penetrating, requiring lead or thick concrete to reduce their intensity. An alpha decay reduces A by 4 and Z by 2; beta decay increases Z by 1 (with no change in A); gamma emission accompanies alpha or beta decay without changing A or Z.

    衰变中发射三种主要辐射。α 粒子是氦-4 核(⁴He2+);在空气中射程短,电离能力强,可被纸张或皮肤阻挡。β 粒子是高速电子(β⁻)或正电子(β⁺);穿透力中等,几毫米铝可阻挡。γ 射线是高频电磁波;电离能力弱但穿透力极强,需铅或厚混凝土降低强度。α 衰变使 A 减少 4、Z 减少 2;β 衰变使 Z 增加 1(A 不变);γ 发射伴随 α 或 β 衰变,A 和 Z 均不变。

    11. Nuclear Equations and Conservation Laws | 核反应方程与守恒定律

    Nuclear reactions must obey conservation of mass number and conservation of charge (proton number). In any equation representing a nuclear process, the total A on the left equals the total A on the right, and total Z left equals total Z right. For example, in alpha decay of radium-226: ²²⁶Ra → ²²²Rn + ⁴He. In beta-minus decay, a neutron transforms into a proton, emitting an electron and an antineutrino: ¹n → ¹p + e⁻ + ν̅ₑ. Students must be able to complete or balance nuclear equations given some of the products or reactants.

    核反应必须遵守质量数守恒和电荷数(质子数)守恒。在表示核过程的任何方程中,左边总 A 等于右边总 A,左边总 Z 等于右边总 Z。例如,镭-226 的 α 衰变:²²⁶Ra → ²²²Rn + ⁴He。在 β⁻ 衰变中,中子转变成质子,发射一个电子和一个反中微子:¹n → ¹p + e⁻ + ν̅ₑ。学生必须能够根据部分产物或反应物补全或配平核方程。

    12. Applications and Safety in Nuclear Physics | 核物理的应用与安全

    Nuclear physics has numerous applications, including radiotherapy for cancer using gamma rays, radioactive tracers in medicine and industry, radiocarbon dating using ¹⁴C, and nuclear power generation. Safety precautions are essential when handling radioactive materials: minimising exposure time, maximising distance from the source, using appropriate shielding, and wearing protective clothing. Radioactive waste must be carefully stored and disposed of to avoid contamination of the environment. Understanding these applications and safety aspects is part of the CIE syllabus and often appears in structured questions.

    核物理有众多应用,包括用 γ 射线进行癌症放射治疗、医学和工业中的放射性示踪剂、利用 ¹⁴C 进行放射性碳定年法,以及核能发电。处理放射性物质时的安全预防至关重要:尽量减少暴露时间、增大与源的距离、使用适当屏蔽并穿戴防护服。放射性废物必须小心储存和处理,以避免环境污染。理解这些应用和安全方面是 CIE 大纲的一部分,常在结构化问题中出现。

    📚 GCSE CCEA Physics: Energy Levels and Spectra | GCSE CCEA 物理:能级与光谱 考点精讲

    Understanding energy levels and spectra is a core part of the GCSE CCEA Physics specification. This topic explains how atoms interact with light, providing direct evidence for the discrete energy structure within atoms. It connects ideas from atomic structure, electromagnetic radiation and quantum theory, and it underpins techniques used in astronomy, forensics and materials analysis.

    理解能级与光谱是 GCSE CCEA 物理考试的核心内容之一。本课题解释了原子如何与光相互作用,为原子内部不连续能级结构提供了直接证据。它把原子结构、电磁辐射和量子理论等概念联系起来,并支撑着天文学、司法鉴定与材料分析中使用的技术。

    1. What are Energy Levels? | 什么是能级?

    In an atom, electrons cannot have just any amount of energy. They are restricted to specific, fixed energies called energy levels or electron shells. These allowed energies are like the rungs of a ladder — an electron can occupy one rung or another, but it cannot exist in the space between.

    原子中的电子不能拥有任意大小的能量。它们被限制在一些特定而固定的能量上,这些能量称为能级或电子壳层。这些允许的能量就像梯子的横档——电子可以占据一个横档或另一个横档,但不可能存在于两档之间的位置。

    The energy of an electron is greater the further the shell is from the nucleus. The lowest possible energy an electron can have in an atom is called the ground state. All higher energy states are called excited states. This quantisation of energy is the foundation for understanding atomic spectra.

    电子所在的壳层离核越远,它的能量越高。原子中电子可能具有的最低能量状态称为基态。所有高于基态的能量状态都称为激发态。能量的量子化是理解原子光谱的基础。

    2. The Bohr Model of the Atom | 原子的玻尔模型

    After Rutherford’s nuclear model revealed that most of the atom is empty space, Niels Bohr proposed a new model that introduced fixed orbits for electrons. In the Bohr model, electrons move around the nucleus in certain allowed circular paths without radiating energy. An electron can only lose or gain energy when it jumps from one orbit to another.

    在卢瑟福的核式模型揭示原子内部大部分是空的空间之后,尼尔斯·玻尔提出了一个新模型,引入了电子的固定轨道。在玻尔模型中,电子在一些特定的圆形轨道上绕核运动,且不向外辐射能量。电子仅在从一个轨道跳跃到另一轨道时才会失去或获得能量。

    Each orbit corresponds to a distinct energy level. The model successfully explained the stability of atoms and the appearance of line spectra, especially for hydrogen. Although the Bohr model has been superseded by quantum mechanics, it still provides a useful picture for GCSE-level understanding.

    每个轨道对应一个不同的能级。该模型成功解释了原子的稳定性以及线状光谱的出现,特别是氢光谱。尽管玻尔模型已被量子力学取代,但它仍然为 GCSE 阶段的理解提供了一个有用的图像。

    3. Ground State and Excited States | 基态与激发态

    The ground state is the lowest energy level of an atom, where all electrons occupy the smallest possible shells. This is the most stable arrangement. When an atom absorbs energy — from heat, an electrical discharge or a photon — an electron can be promoted to a higher energy level, leaving the atom in an excited state.

    基态是原子中能量最低的能级,此时所有电子都占据尽可能最低的壳层。这是最稳定的排布。当原子吸收能量时——无论是来自加热、放电或是光子——一个电子可以被提升到更高的能级,使原子处于激发态。

    Excited states are unstable. The electron will usually drop back to a lower energy level after a very short time. The difference in energy between the two levels is carried away by a single photon. This process is called de-excitation or relaxation.

    激发态是不稳定的。电子通常会在极短时间内跌回到较低的能级。两个能级之间的能量差被一个光子带走。这个过程称为退激或弛豫。

    4. Electron Transitions and Photons | 电子跃迁与光子

    When an electron falls from a higher energy level E₂ to a lower level E₁, it emits a photon whose energy equals the difference between the two levels. If the electron absorbs a photon, it can jump from a lower to a higher level only if the photon’s energy exactly matches the energy gap. This explains why atoms absorb and emit only certain frequencies of light.

    当电子从较高能级 E₂ 落到较低能级 E₁ 时,它会发射一个光子,光子的能量等于两能级之差。如果电子吸收光子,它可以从低能级跳到高能级,但只有光子的能量恰好等于该能级间隙时才会发生。这就解释了为什么原子只吸收和发射特定频率的光。

    The energy change ΔE is given by the equation ΔE = E₂ – E₁ = hf, where h is Planck’s constant and f is the frequency of the photon. Larger energy gaps produce photons of higher frequency and shorter wavelength. A downward transition from level 3 to level 2 emits a photon with less energy than a transition from level 5 to level 1.

    能量变化 ΔE 由方程 ΔE = E₂ – E₁ = hf 给出,其中 h 是普朗克常数,f 是光子的频率。能级差越大,产生的光子频率越高、波长越短。从第 3 级到第 2 级的向下跃迁所发射的光子能量小于从第 5 级到第 1 级的跃迁。

    5. The Photon Energy Equation | 光子能量方程

    The two key equations for calculating photon energy and wavelength are:

    计算光子能量与波长的两个关键方程为:

    E = hf

    c = fλ

    Planck’s constant h is 6.63 × 10⁻³⁴ J s, and the speed of light c is 3.00 × 10⁸ m/s. Combining these gives E = hc/λ. This relationship allows you to calculate the wavelength of light emitted when an electron makes a specific transition if the energy change is known, or to find the energy gap from an observed spectral line.

    普朗克常数 h 为 6.63 × 10⁻³⁴ J·s,光速 c 为 3.00 × 10⁸ m/s。将两式结合可得到 E = hc/λ。利用这一关系,如果知道了能量变化,就可以计算电子发生特定跃迁时发出的光的波长,或者从观测到的谱线求出能级间隙。

    For example, an energy level difference of 3.02 × 10⁻¹⁹ J results in a photon frequency f = ΔE/h = 3.02 × 10⁻¹⁹ / 6.63 × 10⁻³⁴ ≈ 4.55 × 10¹⁴ Hz. The corresponding wavelength λ = c/f ≈ 6.59 × 10⁻⁷ m (659 nm), which falls in the red region of the visible spectrum.

    例如,能级差为 3.02 × 10⁻¹⁹ J 时,产生的光子频率为 f = ΔE/h = 3.02 × 10⁻¹⁹ / 6.63 × 10⁻³⁴ ≈ 4.55 × 10¹⁴ Hz。对应的波长 λ = c/f ≈ 6.59 × 10⁻⁷ m (659 nm),位于可见光谱的红色区域。

    6. Emission Spectra | 发射光谱

    An emission spectrum is produced when atoms in a hot, low-pressure gas are excited and then emit light as electrons fall to lower energy levels. The light is passed through a prism or diffraction grating, which separates it into its component wavelengths. The result is a series of bright coloured lines on a dark background, called a line emission spectrum.

    发射光谱是当热而低压气体中的原子被激发,然后电子落到较低能级而发光时产生的。这束光通过棱镜或衍射光栅,被分解成不同波长成分。在暗背景上得到的一系列彩色亮线,就称为线状发射光谱。

    Each element has a unique emission spectrum because its energy levels are unique. The pattern of lines acts like a set of fingerprints, enabling scientists to identify the element. The light from a neon sign, a sodium street lamp, or a hydrogen discharge tube are everyday examples of emission spectra.

    由于每个元素的能级都是独一无二的,所以它具有独特的发射光谱。这一谱线图案就像一套指纹,让科学家能够识别出该元素。霓虹灯、钠路灯或氢放电管发出的光都是日常生活中发射光谱的实例。

    7. Absorption Spectra | 吸收光谱

    An absorption spectrum is formed when white light passes through a cool, low-pressure gas. The atoms in the gas absorb photons of specific energies, causing electrons to jump from lower to higher energy levels. These wavelengths are missing from the transmitted light, producing a continuous spectrum with dark absorption lines.

    当白光通过低温低压的气体时,会形成吸收光谱。气体中的原子吸收特定能量的光子,使电子从低能级跃迁到高能级。这些波长的光在透射光中缺失,从而产生了带有暗吸收线的连续光谱。

    The dark lines appear at exactly the same wavelengths as the bright lines in the emission spectrum of the same element. This is because the energy gaps for upward and downward transitions are identical. The Fraunhofer lines in the Sun’s spectrum are an important example of an absorption spectrum, revealing the elements present in the solar atmosphere.

    暗线的波长与该元素发射光谱中亮线的波长完全相同。这是因为向上和向下跃迁的能级间隙是一样的。太阳光谱中的夫琅和费线就是吸收光谱的一个重要例子,它揭示了太阳大气中存在的元素。

    8. Continuous and Line Spectra | 连续光谱与线状光谱

    A continuous spectrum contains all wavelengths of light, with no gaps. It is produced by incandescent solids, liquids, and dense gases. For example, a tungsten filament bulb or the glowing metal in a blast furnace gives a continuous range of colours from red to violet.

    连续光谱包含所有波长的光,没有间隙。它是由白炽固体、液体和稠密气体产生的。例如,钨丝灯泡或高炉中炽热的金属就能发出从红到紫的连续颜色范围。

    Line spectra, both emission and absorption, are observed when light comes from isolated atoms in a low-pressure gas. The existence of line spectra rather than a continuous smear is direct evidence that electron energies are quantised. Only certain photon energies are allowed.

    线状光谱,不论是发射还是吸收谱,都是在光来自低压气体中孤立的原子时观测到的。出现的是线状光谱而非连续模糊的一片,这正是电子能量量子化的直接证据。只有某些光子能量是允许的。

    Remember: hot solid = continuous spectrum; hot low-pressure gas = emission line spectrum; cool low-pressure gas with white light behind = absorption line spectrum.

    记住:高温固体产生连续光谱;热低压气体产生发射线光谱;有白光照着的低温低压气体产生吸收线光谱。

    9. The Hydrogen Spectrum and Series | 氢原子光谱与谱线系

    The hydrogen atom is the simplest atom and produces a line spectrum that was crucial in the development of atomic theory. In the visible region, hydrogen shows four prominent lines: a red line, a blue-green line, a blue line and a violet line. These belong to the Balmer series, which corresponds to electron transitions from higher energy levels down to the n = 2 level.

    氢原子是最简单的原子,它产生的线状光谱在原子理论发展过程中起着关键作用。在可见光区,氢原子显示四条突出的谱线:一条红线、一条蓝绿线、一条蓝线和一条紫线。这些谱线属于巴耳末系,对应电子从较高能级跃迁至 n = 2 能级的过程。

    Transition Wavelength (approx.) Colour
    n = 3 → n = 2 656 nm Red
    n = 4 → n = 2 486 nm Blue-green
    n = 5 → n = 2 434 nm Blue
    n = 6 → n = 2 410 nm Violet

    As the initial energy level increases, the lines get closer together and converge towards a limit called the series limit. This limit corresponds to the ionisation energy from the n = 2 level. Other series exist for transitions to n = 1 (Lyman series, ultraviolet) and n = 3 (Paschen series, infrared), but the Balmer series is the most commonly studied at GCSE.

    随着初始能级增大,谱线越来越靠近并趋向一个极限,称为线系极限。这个极限对应于从 n = 2 能级电离所需的能量。此外,还存在跃迁至 n = 1(莱曼系,紫外区)和 n = 3(帕邢系,红外区)的谱系,但 GCSE 阶段最常学习的是巴耳末系。

    10. Ionisation Energy | 电离能

    Ionisation energy is the minimum energy needed to completely remove an electron from an atom, moving it from its ground state or an excited state to the point where it is free of the nucleus (n = ∞). When an electron is removed, the atom becomes a positive ion.

    电离能是指将电子从原子中完全移除,使其从基态或某个激发态跃迁到脱离原子核束缚的状态(n = ∞)所需的最低能量。当电子被移除时,原子变成正离子。

    In the hydrogen emission spectrum, the convergence limit of a series gives the ionisation energy from that lower level. For instance, the convergence frequency f at the Balmer series limit can be used to calculate the energy needed to ionise an electron from n = 2 using E = hf. For CCEA, you may be asked to determine ionisation energy from a spectral line data or an energy level diagram.

    在氢的发射光谱中,线系极限给出了从该低能级电离所需的能量。例如,巴耳末系极限处的收敛频率 f 可以用来通过 E = hf 计算从 n = 2 电离一个电子所需的能量。在 CCEA 考试中,你可能会被要求根据谱线数据或能级图来确定电离能。

    11. Applications of Spectra | 光谱的应用

    Atomic spectra are incredibly useful in both science and industry. Because each element has a characteristic spectrum, spectroscopy is used to identify the composition of unknown substances. In astronomy, the absorption and emission lines in starlight reveal which elements are present in stars and galaxies.

    原子光谱在科学和工业中用途极大。由于每种元素都有其特征光谱,光谱学被用来确定未知物质的成分。在天文学中,星光中的吸收和发射谱线揭示了恒星和星系中存在哪些元素。

    Spectroscopy also helps in forensic science to match paint, glass or ink samples at a crime scene. Environmental monitoring uses spectral analysis to detect pollutants in air and water. Even the colours of fireworks and flame tests rely on the same fundamental principle — excited atoms releasing energy as specific wavelengths of light.

    光谱学还有助于在法庭科学中比对犯罪现场的油漆、玻璃或墨水样品。环境监测利用光谱分析检测空气和水中的污染物。就连烟花和焰色试验的色彩也依赖于同一基本原理——受激原子以特定波长的光释放能量。

    📚 Unpacking Key Physics Ideas – Oxford AQA Science Teacher Guide | 解析物理关键概念——牛津 AQA 科学教师指南

    The Oxford AQA Science Teacher Guide provides invaluable strategies for helping students grasp challenging physics concepts. By analysing common misconceptions and highlighting essential links between topics, the guide offers a clear roadmap for deep understanding. In this article, we unpack several key ideas drawn from the guide, explaining each one in both English and Chinese to support bilingual learners preparing for A-level Physics.

    牛津 AQA 科学教师指南为帮助学生掌握具有挑战性的物理概念提供了宝贵的教学策略。通过分析常见误解并强调知识点之间的本质联系,该指南为深度理解绘制了清晰的路线图。本文将解析从该指南中提炼出的若干关键概念,并以中英双语逐一解释,助力准备 A-level 物理的双语学习者。

    1. Measurement and Uncertainty | 测量与不确定性

    In physics, no measurement is perfectly exact. Every reading is subject to uncertainty, which must be quantified and communicated. The Oxford AQA teacher guide distinguishes between systematic errors (which bias results in one direction) and random errors (which scatter results around the true value). It encourages students to estimate the absolute uncertainty in a single measurement as half the smallest scale division of the instrument, and to combine multiple readings by considering the spread of values.

    在物理学中,没有任何测量是绝对精确的。每个读数都带有不确定性,必须将其量化并表达出来。牛津 AQA 教师指南区分了系统误差(使结果偏向一个方向)和随机误差(使结果在真值周围散布)。它鼓励学生将单次测量中的绝对不确定度估算为仪器最小刻度的一半,并通过考虑数值的离散度来合并多次读数。

    When plotting graphs, the guide highlights that error bars should be drawn to represent the uncertainty in each data point. The best-fit line should pass through the error bars where possible, and the steepest and shallowest lines that still reasonably fit the data can be used to determine the uncertainty in the gradient and intercept. This approach reinforces the idea that experimental conclusions are never absolute but are statements of probability.

    在绘制图表时,指南强调应绘制误差棒来表示每个数据点的不确定度。最佳拟合线应尽可能穿过误差棒,而仍然合理拟合数据的最陡和最浅的线可以用来确定斜率和截距的不确定度。这种方法强化了实验结论从来不是绝对的,而是一种概率性陈述的理念。

    2. Kinematics Equations | 运动学方程

    The four suvat equations describe motion with constant acceleration. The teacher guide advises that students should be able to derive each equation from a velocity–time graph, reinforcing the graphical understanding of displacement as the area under the line and acceleration as the gradient. This prevents reliance on formula-picking and fosters deeper problem-solving skills.

    四个 suvat 方程描述了匀加速运动。教师指南建议学生能够从速度–时间图中推导出每个方程,从而强化对位移(线下的面积)和加速度(斜率)的图形理解。这可以避免学生仅凭公式挑选而缺乏深层解题技巧。

    A common pitfall is failing to define a positive direction before assigning signs to velocity, acceleration, and displacement. The guide recommends drawing a clear arrow on the diagram and consistently applying the same sign convention throughout the calculation. In vertical motion problems, taking upward as positive means g = −9.81 m/s², which often trips up learners.

    一个常见的陷阱是在为速度、加速度和位移分配符号之前未能定义正方向。指南建议在图上画一个清晰的箭头,并在整个计算过程中始终应用相同的符号约定。在竖直运动问题中,取向上为正意味着 g = −9.81 m/s²,这往往会难住学生。

    3. Newton’s Laws and Free-Body Diagrams | 牛顿定律与受力图

    Newton’s three laws form the backbone of classical mechanics. The Oxford AQA guide places strong emphasis on the correct construction of free-body diagrams, isolating a single object and showing all forces acting on it as vectors. Students are taught that the net force determines acceleration via ΣF = ma, but only when mass is constant. This clarifies that unbalanced forces cause change in motion, not maintenance of motion — directly addressing the misconception that a force is needed to keep an object moving.

    牛顿三定律构成了经典力学的支柱。牛津 AQA 指南特别强调正确构建受力图,即将单个物体隔离,并以矢量形式显示作用在其上的所有力。学生被教导说,合力通过 ΣF = ma 决定加速度,但这仅在质量恒定时成立。这阐明了不平衡力引起运动状态的变化,而非维持运动——直接解决了

    📚 IB & CCEA Physics: Clarifying Common Misconceptions | IB与CCEA物理:常见概念辨析

    In both IB and CCEA Physics courses, students often encounter concepts that sound similar yet carry distinct physical meanings. Mastering these differences is essential for exam success and for building a robust foundation in physics. This article clarifies ten pairs of frequently confused concepts, highlighting their definitions, relationships, and common pitfalls.

    无论是在 IB 还是 CCEA 物理课程中,学生经常会遇到听上去相似但物理意义截然不同的概念。掌握这些区别对考试成功和建立扎实的物理基础至关重要。本文澄清了十对常被混淆的概念,重点说明它们的定义、联系以及常见错误。

    1. Speed vs. Velocity | 速率与速度

    Speed is a scalar quantity that measures how fast an object moves. It is defined as the distance travelled per unit time and is always positive. Velocity, on the other hand, is a vector that describes the rate of change of displacement. It includes both magnitude and direction, so velocity can be positive, negative, or zero depending on the chosen coordinate system.

    速率是标量,衡量物体运动的快慢,定义为单位时间内经过的路程,永为正值。速度则是矢量,描述位移的变化率,同时包含大小和方向,因此根据所选坐标系,速度可为正、负或零。

    Example: A car driving around a circular track at constant speed has a changing velocity because its direction changes continuously. In IB and CCEA exams, confusing average speed with the magnitude of average velocity is a classic error, especially when an object returns to its starting point.

    示例:一辆汽车以恒定速率绕圆形赛道行驶,其速度不断变化,因为方向在持续改变。在 IB 和 CCEA 考试中,将平均速率与平均速度的大小混淆是典型错误,特别是当物体回到起点时。

    2. Distance vs. Displacement | 路程与位移

    Distance is the total length of the path travelled between two points. It is a scalar, always non‑negative, and depends on the actual route taken. Displacement is the straight‑line distance from the initial to the final position along with its direction; it is a vector and does not depend on the path.

    路程是两点之间运动轨迹的总长度,是标量,恒为非负,取决于实际经过的路径。位移是从初位置指向末位置的有向直线距离,是矢量,与路径无关。

    When a student walks 3 m east and then 4 m west, the distance covered is 7 m, but the displacement is only 1 m west. Both IB and CCEA mark schemes frequently penalise candidates who blindly use distance in kinematic equations that require displacement.

    当一名学生向东走 3 m,然后向西走 4 m,走过的路程为 7 m,但位移仅为向西 1 m。IB 和 CCEA 的评分标准经常对在需要位移的运动学方程中盲目使用路程的考生扣分。

    3. Mass vs. Weight | 质量与重量

    Mass is a measure of the amount of matter in an object and a scalar invariant under a change of gravitational field. Weight is the gravitational force acting on that mass, expressed as W = mg, and is a vector always directed towards the centre of the planet. On the Moon, an astronaut’s mass remains unchanged, but their weight is roughly one‑sixth of that on Earth.

    质量是物体所含物质的量度,是标量,在引力场变化时保持不变。重量是作用在该质量上的引力,表示为 W = mg,是矢量,方向始终指向行星中心。在月球上,宇航员的质量不变,但重量约为地球上的六分之一。

    A common mistake in IB and CCEA papers is using the terms ‘mass’ and ‘weight’ interchangeably, or quoting weight in kilograms. The SI unit of mass is the kilogram (kg); weight is measured in newtons (N).

    IB 和 CCEA 试卷中常见的错误是混用“质量”和“重量”,或用千克表示重量。质量的国际单位是千克 (kg),重量则以牛顿 (N) 为单位。

    4. Heat vs. Temperature | 热量与温度

    Temperature is a measure of the average random kinetic energy of the particles in a substance. It is an intensive property and does not depend on the amount of material. Heat, in contrast, is thermal energy transferred from a hotter body to a cooler one because of a temperature difference. It is an extensive quantity measured in joules.

    温度是物质中粒子平均无规则动能的量度,是强度量,与材料多少无关。热量则是由温差引起的从高温物体向低温物体传递的热能,是广延量,单位为焦耳。

    During a phase change, a substance absorbs heat without a change in temperature. Both IB and CCEA syllabi expect students to distinguish between internal energy, heat, and temperature clearly, particularly when analysing heating curves.

    在相变过程中,物质吸收热量但温度不变。IB 和 CCEA 大纲均要求学生在分析加热曲线时,清晰区分内能、热量和温度。

    5. Electric Current vs. Voltage | 电流与电压

    Electric current (I) is the rate of flow of electric charge. It is measured in amperes (A) and is analogous to the flow rate of water through a pipe. Voltage, or potential difference (V), is the energy transferred per unit charge between two points. It is measured in volts (V) and is analogous to the pressure difference that drives the flow.

    电流 (I) 是电荷流动的速率,单位为安培 (A),类似于水管中水的流量。电压或电势差 (V) 是两点之间单位电荷转移的能量,单位为伏特 (V),类似于驱动水流的压强差。

    In IB and CCEA, students sometimes think a battery ‘provides current’ rather than maintaining a potential difference. The current in a circuit is a consequence of the applied voltage and the total resistance, as stated by Ohm’s law: I = V / R.

    在 IB 和 CCEA 中,学生有时会认为电池“提供电流”,而实际是维持电势差。根据欧姆定律 I = V / R,电路中的电流是外加电压和总电阻的结果。

    6. Electric Potential vs. Electric Potential Energy | 电势与电势能

    Electric potential (V) at a point is the work done per unit positive charge to bring a test charge from infinity to that point. It is a scalar property of the electric field alone. Electric potential energy (U) is the energy a charge possesses by virtue of its position in the field, given by U = qV.

    电势 (V) 是单位正电荷从无穷远处移至该点所做的功,是电场本身的标量属性。电势能 (U) 是电荷因在电场中的位置而具有的能量,由 U = qV 给出。

    A frequent error is stating that potential and potential energy are the same. For two unlike charges approaching each other, the potential may be positive or negative, but the potential energy decreases as the separation decreases. Both IB and CCEA exam questions exploit this distinction in contexts such as electron orbits or parallel plates.

    常见错误是声称电势和电势能相同。对于两异号电荷相互靠近,电势可正可负,但电势能随间距减小而减小。IB 和 CCEA 考试常利用这一区别,出现在电子轨道或平行板等情境中。

    7. Momentum vs. Kinetic Energy | 动量与动能

    Momentum (p = mv) is a vector quantity that depends on both mass and velocity. Kinetic energy (KE = ½mv²) is a scalar representing the energy of motion. In an inelastic collision, momentum is conserved but kinetic energy is not; the ‘lost’ kinetic energy is transformed into heat, sound or deformation.

    动量 (p = mv) 是取决于质量和速度的矢量。动能 (KE = ½mv²) 是表示运动能量的标量。在非弹性碰撞中,动量守恒而动能不守恒;“损失”的动能转化为热、声或形变能。

    IB and CCEA syllabi require the ability to solve collision problems by applying conservation of momentum, but students often erroneously assume kinetic energy is also conserved. Recognising that momentum conservation holds for all isolated systems, while kinetic energy conservation holds only for perfectly elastic collisions, is key.

    IB 和 CCEA 大纲要求运用动量守恒解决碰撞问题,但学生常错误地认为动能也守恒。关键是认识到动量守恒适用于一切孤立系统,而动能守恒仅适用于完全弹性碰撞。

    8. Faraday’s Law vs. Lenz’s Law | 法拉第定律与楞次定律

    Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction states that the magnitude of the induced electromotive force (emf) in a circuit is equal to the rate of change of magnetic flux linkage: |ε| = dΦ/dt. Lenz’s law gives the direction of the induced emf: the induced current flows in a direction that opposes the change in magnetic flux that produced it.

    法拉第电磁感应定律指出,回路中感应电动势 (emf) 的大小等于磁链变化率的负值:|ε| = dΦ/dt。楞次定律给出感应电动势的方向:感应电流的方向总是阻碍引起它的磁通量变化。

    In IB and CCEA contexts, students often remember the minus sign in ε = −dΦ/dt but forget its physical meaning. Lenz’s law is a manifestation of the conservation of energy; without the opposing flux, a small change would lead to a runaway increase in current.

    在 IB 和 CCEA 中,学生常记住 ε = −dΦ/dt 中的负号但忘记其物理意义。楞次定律是能量守恒的体现;若没有反向磁通,微小变化就会导致电流无限增大。

    9. Nuclear Fission vs. Nuclear Fusion | 核裂变与核聚变

    Nuclear fission is the splitting of a heavy nucleus (e.g. uranium‑235) into two lighter nuclei, accompanied by the release of neutrons and energy. Nuclear fusion is the combining of light nuclei (e.g. deuterium and tritium) to form a heavier nucleus, also releasing energy. For elements lighter than iron‑56, fusion yields energy; for heavier elements, fission yields energy.

    核裂变是重核(如铀‑235)分裂成两个较轻核并释放中子和能量的过程。核聚变是轻核(如氘和氚)结合形成较重的核,同样释放能量。对于比铁‑56 轻的元素,聚变产能;对于更重的元素,裂变产能。

    Both IB and CCEA exams ask students to interpret the binding energy per nucleon curve to explain why fusion and fission are exoergic. A common misconception is that both processes always release energy regardless of the nuclides involved, which the curve clearly disproves.

    IB 和 CCEA 考试均要求根据比结合能曲线解释为何聚变和裂变可以释放能量。一个常见误区是无论涉及何种核素,两种过程总是放能,而曲线明显否定了这一点。

    10. Half‑life vs. Decay Rate (Activity) | 半衰期与衰变率(活度)

    Half‑life (T₁/₂) is the time taken for half the radioactive nuclei in a sample to decay, and it is a constant for a given isotope. Activity (A) is the number of decays per unit time, typically measured in becquerels (Bq); it decreases exponentially over time as A = λN, where λ is the decay constant related to half‑life by λ = ln2 / T₁/₂.

    半衰期 (T₁/₂) 是样品中一半放射性核发生衰变所需的时间,对于给定同位素是常数。活度 (A) 是单位时间内的衰变次数,通常以贝克勒尔 (Bq) 为单位,随时间指数衰减,A = λN,其中 λ 是衰变常数,与半衰期的关系为 λ = ln2 / T₁/₂。

    In IB and CCEA, candidates sometimes think that after two half‑lives the activity is zero. In reality, activity halves every half‑life; after two half‑lives, one quarter of the original activity remains. Understanding this exponential, probabilistic nature is tested quantitatively.

    在 IB 和 CCEA 中,考生有时认为经过两个半衰期后活度为零。事实上,活度每经过一个半衰期减半;两个半衰期后,原始活度剩余四分之一。理解这种指数、概率性质是定量考查的重点。

    1. Why Past Papers Are Essential | 为什么真题至关重要

    Past papers are the most reliable resource for understanding what examiners expect in both IB and CIE Physics.

    真题是了解 IB 和 CIE 物理考试中阅卷人期望的最可靠资源。

    They reveal the style, difficulty, and common question types that recur year after year, such as SUVAT derivations, Kirchhoff’s laws, or nuclear decay calculations.

    它们揭示了年复一年出现的题型风格、难度和常见问题类型,例如运动学推导、基尔霍夫定律或核衰变计算。

    Working through them under timed conditions builds exam stamina and highlights your weak areas, so you can focus revision where it matters most.

    在限时条件下练习真题能培养考试耐力并暴露你的薄弱环节,从而使复习更有针对性。

    2. Comparing IB and CIE Physics Exams | 比较 IB 与 CIE 物理考试

    Understanding the structure of each exam board is the first step to effective past paper practice. Here is a quick comparison:

    了解每个考试局的结构是有效练习真题的第一步。以下是一个简要对比:

    Feature IB Physics (SL/HL) CIE Physics (AS/A2)
    Papers Paper 1 (MCQ), Paper 2 (structured), Paper 3 (data/experimental + option) Paper 1 (MCQ), Paper 2 (AS structured), Paper 3 (practical skills), Paper 4 (A2 structured), Paper 5 (planning & analysis)
    Duration Example SL Paper 1: 45 min (30 questions) AS Paper 1: 1 h 15 min (40 questions)
    Internal Assessment IA (investigation 20% of final grade) Practical endorsement / Paper 3 & 5
    Command Terms Extensive list: ‘Explain’, ‘Discuss’, ‘Deduce’, etc. Similar but with CIE-specific phrasing like ‘State’, ‘Calculate’, ‘Suggest’

    Both boards demand strong conceptual understanding, but IB often requires longer written explanations, while CIE places a heavier emphasis on stepped calculations and experimental design.

    两个考试局都要求扎实的概念理解,但 IB 往往需要较长的文字解释,而 CIE 更注重分步计算和实验设计。

    3. Understanding Command Terms | 理解指令词

    Marks are awarded strictly based on command terms. Misinterpreting ‘State’ as ‘Explain’ can cost you precious time and marks.

    评分严格依据指令词进行。把 “陈述” 误解为 “解释” 可能会浪费宝贵的时间和分数。

    Common IB & CIE command terms:

    常见的 IB 与 CIE 指令词:

    • State – give a specific name, value, or brief answer without explanation. / 陈述 —— 给出具体名称、数值或简短答案,无需解释。
    • Define – provide the precise scientific meaning. / 定义 —— 给出确切的科学含义。
    • Explain – give reasons or mechanisms, often using a scientific principle. / 解释 —— 给出理由或机制,通常运用科学原理。
    • Calculate – work out a numerical answer, showing your steps. / 计算 —— 得出数值答案,并展示步骤。
    • Deduce – reach a conclusion from given information. / 推导 —— 从所给信息得出结论。
    • Suggest – propose a plausible hypothesis or reason, not necessarily a unique answer. / 建议 —— 提出合理的假设或理由,答案不一定唯一。

    Practising with past papers teaches you to respond with exactly the depth required for each command term.

    通过真题练习,你能学会针对每个指令词给出恰如其分的回答深度。

    4. Tackling Definition Questions | 应对定义题

    Definition questions appear frequently in both IB Paper 2 and CIE Papers 2/4, often worth 1-2 marks.

    定义题在 IB 试卷二和 CIE 试卷二/四中频繁出现,通常分值 1-2 分。

    You must learn word-perfect definitions from the syllabus, for example: “Electric field strength is the force per unit positive charge acting on a stationary point charge.”

    你必须熟记考纲中一字不差的定义,例如:“电场强度是作用在静止点电荷上每单位正电荷所受的力。”

    In CIE, a definition like “acceleration” must mention “rate of change of velocity”, and omitting “velocity” for “speed” will lose the mark.

    在 CIE 中,像 “加速度” 的定义必须提到 “速度的变化率”,若把 “速度” 说成 “速率” 就会丢分。

    Create flashcards of all syllabus definitions and test them daily using past paper questions that start with “Define…”.

    制作涵盖所有考纲定义的闪卡,并每天用历年真题中以 “定义…” 开头的问题进行自测。

    5. Solving Calculation Problems | 解计算题

    Calculation-heavy topics such as mechanics, electricity, and thermal physics dominate both IB and CIE exams.

    力学、电学和热学等计算密集型主题在 IB 和 CIE 考试中占主导地位。

    Always list known quantities, convert to SI units, and write the relevant equation before plugging in numbers. For example, a typical SUVAT problem:

    始终先列出已知量、转换成国际单位、写出相关方程,再代入数字。例如一道典型的运动学问题:

    v² = u² + 2as → (0)² = u² + 2(−9.81)(5.0) → u = √(98.1) ≈ 9.9 m s⁻¹

    Practise multi-step calculations from past papers where one answer feeds into the next, as seen in CIE Paper 4 and IB HL Paper 2.

    练习真题中多步计算题,其中前一步的答案会用于下一步,这在 CIE 试卷四和 IB HL 试卷二中很常见。

    Show your working clearly; marks are given for correct method (M marks) even if the final answer is wrong due to a slip.

    清晰展示解题步骤;即使最终答案因笔误出错,正确的方法仍能得分(方法分 M)。

    6. Mastering Graph-Based Questions | 掌握图表题

    Graph interpretation appears in IB Paper 3 data analysis and CIE Paper 5, as well as in structured questions.

    图表解读出现在 IB 试卷三的数据分析、CIE 试卷五以及结构化问题中。

    You must be able to determine gradient and intercept, relate them to physical quantities (e.g., gradient = 1/R for an I-V graph), and linearise equations like T = 2π√(l/g).

    你必须能确定斜率和截距,将其与物理量关联(例如 I-V 图的斜率 = 1/R),并对方程进行线性化处理,如 T = 2π√(l/g)。

    Always label axes with quantity and unit, use a sensible scale, and draw a line of best fit with a ruler. Error bars are essential for IB higher marks.

    务必给坐标轴标上物理量和单位,使用合理的刻度,并用直尺画最佳拟合线。在 IB 中,误差棒对于获取高分至关重要。

    Common pitfalls: confusing area under curve with gradient, or forgetting to convert units like cm to m.

    常见陷阱:混淆曲线下面积与斜率,或忘记转换单位,如厘米转米。

    7. Experimental and Data Analysis Questions | 实验与数据分析题

    IB Physics Paper 3 (Section A) and CIE Paper 3/5 test practical skills and data handling.

    IB 物理试卷三(A 部分)和 CIE 试卷三/五考查实验技能与数据处理。

    You might be asked to calculate percentage uncertainty = (absolute uncertainty / measured value) × 100%, and combine uncertainties for derived quantities.

    你可能会被要求计算百分比不确定度 =(绝对不确定度 / 测量值)× 100%,并对导出量进行不确定度合成。

    When a past paper asks “Describe how you would measure…”, use a clear step-by-step method with named apparatus, and include repeats to improve reliability.

    当真题问 “描述你如何测量…” 时,要用清晰的步骤说明,列出所用仪器,并包含重复测量以提高可靠性。

    Practice identifying systematic vs random errors in past experiments and suggesting realistic improvements.

    练习在过往实验中识别系统误差和随机误差,并提出切实可行的改进建议。

    8. Common Pitfalls in Past Papers | 真题中的常见陷阱

    Past paper analysis reveals that many students lose marks on the same errors year after year.

    历年真题分析表明,许多学生年复一年在同样的问题上丢分。

    Typical mistakes include: missing unit conversions (mA to A, km to m), incorrect significant figures, and forgetting the direction in vector answers (e.g., stating velocity as 5 m s⁻¹ instead of 5 m s⁻¹ upwards).

    典型错误包括:遗漏单位换算(毫安到安、千米到米)、有效数字错误、以及在涉及矢量的答案中忘记方向(如把速度说成 5 m s⁻¹ 而不是 5 m s⁻¹ 向上)。

    In CIE, not using the correct number of significant figures as given in the question, or in IB, failing to discuss assumptions, regularly costs marks.

    在 CIE 中,未使用题目所给的有效数字位数;或在 IB 中未能讨论假设条件,常常导致失分。

    Keep an error log while correcting past papers; you will spot patterns and prevent repeated mistakes.

    批改真题时准备一个错题本;你会发现自己出错的规律,避免重蹈覆辙。

    9. Time Management in Exams | 考试中的时间管理

    Efficient time allocation can be developed exclusively by doing full past papers under timed conditions.

    高效的时间分配只能通过在限定时间内完整演练真题来培养。

    For IB SL Paper 1, you have about 1.5 minutes per multiple-choice question; for CIE AS Paper 2, roughly 1 minute per mark.

    以 IB SL 试卷一为例,每道选择题约合 1.5 分钟;CIE AS 试卷二则大约每分钟完成 1 分。

    During practice, mark the time taken for each section. If you exceed the planned time on a 3-mark calculation, move on and return later.

    练习时,记录每个部分所花的时间。如果一道 3 分计算题超时,就先跳过,回头再做。

    Past papers help you gauge which questions are “mark-fertile” – those that yield many marks for little writing – and prioritise them.

    真题能帮你判断哪些题目 “性价比高”——即投入少量书写就能获得较多分数——并优先解答。

    10. Using Mark Schemes Effectively | 有效利用评分方案

    Mark schemes are not just for checking right and wrong; they are scripts that teach you how to phrase answers for maximum credit.

    评分方案不仅是用来核对对错的;它们是教你如何措辞以获得最高分数的手册。

    Compare your answer to the mark scheme phrase by phrase. Note where you missed keywords like “freely oscillating” or “perpendicular to electric field”.

    将你的答案与评分方案逐字对比。标记出你遗漏的关键词,如 “自由振荡” 或 “垂直于电场”。

    In IB “Explain” questions, look for an answer that connects a concept to a consequence, often in two clear sentences.

    在 IB 的 “解释” 题中,要寻找将概念与结果关联起来的答案,通常用两个清晰的句子表达。

    Build a checklist of recurring mark scheme points you tend to forget, and refer to it before each past paper session.

    建立一个你容易遗忘的常见评分要点清单,并在每次真题练习前回顾。

    11. Crafting a Revision Plan from Past Papers | 依据真题制定复习计划

    A strategic revision plan should be driven by past paper performance, identifying which topics need more attention.

    一份有策略的复习计划应以真题成绩为导向,找出哪些主题需要更多关注。

    Start by attempting a full set of papers under exam conditions, then use the results to rank topics from weakest to strongest.

    先在考试条件下完成一整套真题,然后根据结果将知识点从薄弱到最强排序。

    Dedicate focused sessions to those weak topics using topic-specific past paper compilations, available on sites like aleveler.com.

    利用按主题分类的真题汇编(如在 aleveler.com 上可获取),针对薄弱专题进行集中练习。

    This targeted approach prevents mindless re-reading and rapidly lifts your grade by converting weaknesses into secure marks.

    这种有针对性的方法可避免盲目的重复阅读,通过将弱点转化为稳定的得分点,快速提升成绩。

    📚 IB WJEC Physics: Momentum – Key Concepts and Exam Focus | IB WJEC 物理:动量考点精讲

    Momentum is a cornerstone of mechanics, linking mass, velocity and force. In both IB and WJEC physics specifications, a deep understanding of momentum is essential for solving collision, explosion and impulse problems. This article walks you through the key concepts, mathematical relationships and exam-style reasoning you need to master momentum.

    动量是力学的核心概念,它将质量、速度与力联系在一起。在 IB 和 WJEC 物理大纲中,深入理解动量是解决碰撞、爆炸和冲量问题的基础。本文将带你梳理关键概念、数学关系以及考试所需的推理方式,助你彻底掌握动量。

    1. What is Momentum? | 什么是动量?

    Momentum (p) is the product of an object’s mass and its velocity: p = m v. It tells us how hard it is to stop a moving object. Momentum is measured in kg·m·s⁻¹ and is a vector quantity.

    动量(p)是物体质量与速度的乘积:p = m v。它反映了使运动物体停止的难易程度。动量的单位是 kg·m·s⁻¹,且动量是一个矢量。

    Because velocity is a vector, momentum has the same direction as velocity. A heavy lorry moving slowly can have the same magnitude of momentum as a light car moving fast. In symbols, if mass is m and velocity is v, then p = m v, with the vector nature inherited from velocity.

    由于速度是矢量,动量的方向与速度相同。一辆缓慢行驶的重型卡车可能与一辆快速行驶的小汽车具有相同大小的动量。用符号表示,若质量为 m,速度为 v,则 p = m v,其矢量特性源于速度。

    2. Momentum as a Vector | 动量是矢量

    In any problem, you must assign a positive direction and keep track of signs. For example, if a ball of mass 0.5 kg moves at 4 m·s⁻¹ to the right, its momentum is +2.0 kg·m·s⁻¹. If it rebounds at 3 m·s⁻¹ to the left, its momentum becomes −1.5 kg·m·s⁻¹.

    解题时必须规定正方向并留意正负号。例如,一个质量为 0.5 kg 的球以 4 m·s⁻¹ 向右运动,其动量为 +2.0 kg·m·s⁻¹。如果它以 3 m·s⁻¹ 的速度向左反弹,其动量变为 −1.5 kg·m·s⁻¹。

    The change in momentum is always Δp = p_final − p_initial. In the example above, Δp = (−1.5) − 2.0 = −3.5 kg·m·s⁻¹, meaning the impulse is directed to the left. Remember to subtract initial vectors correctly; failing to account for direction changes is a common error.

    动量的变化量总是 Δp = p_final − p_initial。上述例子中,Δp = (−1.5) − 2.0 = −3.5 kg·m·s⁻¹,这意味着冲量方向向左。务必正确进行矢量减法;忽视方向变化是常见的错误。

    3. Impulse and the Impulse–Momentum Theorem | 冲量与冲量-动量定理

    Impulse (J) is defined as the product of the average force and the time interval over which it acts: J = F_avg × Δt. The impulse–momentum theorem states that impulse equals the change in momentum: J = Δp. This is a direct consequence of Newton’s second law.

    冲量(J)定义为平均力与其作用时间的乘积:J = F_avg × Δt。冲量-动量定理指出冲量等于动量的变化:J = Δp。这是牛顿第二定律的直接推论。

    The theorem, often written as F Δt = m v − m u, is enormously useful for calculating the force involved when a moving object experiences a rapid change in velocity, such as during a kick or a crash. If the force varies, impulse is the area under a force–time graph.

    该定理常写作 F Δt = m v − m u,在物体速度发生急剧变化(如踢球或撞击)时,用于计算作用力非常有用。如果力是变化的,冲量等于力-时间图下的面积。

    4. Force as Rate of Change of Momentum | 力等于动量的变化率

    Newton originally expressed his second law in terms of momentum: the net force on a body is equal to the rate of change of its momentum, F = dp/dt. For a constant-mass object, this simplifies to F = m a, but the momentum form is more fundamental, especially when mass changes, as in a rocket ejecting fuel.

    牛顿最初是用动量来表述第二定律的:物体所受的合力等于其动量的变化率,即 F = dp/dt。对于质量不变的物体,可简化为 F = m a。然而,动量变化率的形式更为基本,当质量变化时尤其如此,例如火箭喷射燃料。

    IB exam questions may ask you to calculate the force exerted on a wall by a jet of water, or to explain why a high-speed particle beam exerts a force. In such cases, use F = Δp/Δt, where Δp is the total momentum change per unit time of the particles.

    IB 考试可能要求计算水流冲击墙壁的力,或解释高速粒子束为何会产生力。这类情况下使用 F = Δp/Δt,其中 Δp 是单位时间内粒子的总动量变化。

    5. Conservation of Momentum | 动量守恒定律

    The principle of conservation of momentum states that for a system upon which no external resultant force acts, the total momentum before an interaction equals the total momentum after: Σ p_before = Σ p_after. This arises from Newton’s third law and holds for all types of collisions and explosions.

    动量守恒定律指出,若系统不受合外力作用,相互作用前的总动量等于相互作用后的总动量:Σ p_before = Σ p_after。这源自牛顿第三定律,适用于所有碰撞与爆炸过程。

    Total momentum is the vector sum of individual momenta. When applying the law, always sketch the scenario, choose a positive direction, and write the conservation equation in terms of mass and velocity components. This principle is one of the most powerful tools in mechanics.

    总动量是各物体动量的矢量和。应用该定律时,应画出场景示意图,选定正方向,并用质量和速度分量写出守恒方程。该原理是力学中最强有力的工具之一。

    6. Elastic and Inelastic Collisions | 弹性碰撞与非弹性碰撞

    In an elastic collision, both momentum and kinetic energy are conserved. Macroscopic objects rarely achieve perfect elastic collisions, but the concept is foundational. In an inelastic collision, momentum is conserved, but kinetic energy is not – some energy is dissipated as heat, sound or permanent deformation.

    在弹性碰撞中,动量和动能均守恒。宏观物体很少发生完全弹性碰撞,但该概念是基础。在非弹性碰撞中,动量守恒而动能不守恒——部分能量耗散为热能、声能或永久形变。

    A perfectly inelastic collision is one in which the colliding bodies stick together after impact, moving with a common velocity. Here kinetic energy loss is maximum. The conservation equations are: m₁u₁ + m₂u₂ = m₁v₁ + m₂v₂ (momentum always), and for elastic collisions additionally ½ m₁u₁² + ½ m₂u₂² = ½ m₁v₁² + ½ m₂v₂².

    完全非弹性碰撞指碰撞后物体粘在一起以共同速度运动的情况,此时动能损失最大。守恒方程如下:动量始终满足 m₁u₁ + m₂u₂ = m₁v₁ + m₂v₂;弹性碰撞还满足 ½ m₁u₁² + ½ m₂u₂² = ½ m₁v₁² + ½ m₂v₂²。

    7. Explosions | 爆炸问题

    Explosions are effectively reverse collisions. A system initially at rest or moving as one splits apart. Since no external impulse acts, momentum remains conserved. If the system was originally stationary, the total momentum after the explosion is still zero, meaning the fragments fly apart with equal and opposite momenta.

    爆炸可视为碰撞的逆过程。原本静止或作为一个整体运动的系统发生分裂。由于无外力冲量作用,动量守恒。若系统初始静止,爆炸后总动量仍为零,意味着碎片以等大反向的动量飞出。

    For a system of two fragments: 0 = m₁v₁ + m₂v₂, implying v₂ = −(m₁/m₂) v₁. The fragment with smaller mass receives a larger speed. This is commonly demonstrated in the laboratory using spring-loaded trolleys.

    对于两个碎片的系统:0 = m₁v₁ + m₂v₂,即 v₂ = −(m₁/m₂) v₁。质量较小的碎片获得较大的速率。这通常通过弹簧加载的小车实验进行演示。

    8. Collisions in Two Dimensions | 二维碰撞

    When particles collide at an angle, momentum conservation must be applied separately to perpendicular axes (usually x and y). Resolve all velocities into components, then write Σp_x before = Σp_x after and Σp_y before = Σp_y after. This yields two equations that can be solved simultaneously.

    当粒子成角度碰撞时,必须将动量守恒分别应用于相互垂直的坐标轴(通常为 x 和 y)。将所有速度分解为分量,然后写出 Σp_x 前 = Σp_x 后 和 Σp_y 前 = Σp_y 后。这两个方程可联立求解。

    IB Higher Level students frequently encounter problems where a moving particle strikes a stationary one, and both move off at angles. You may need to use trigonometric identities, such as the tangent of the scatter angle, and apply kinetic energy conditions if the collision is elastic.

    IB 高级水平学生常遇到运动粒子撞击静止粒子后二者分别以某角度飞出的问题。你可能需要运用三角恒等式(如散射角的正切),若为弹性碰撞还需结合动能条件。

    9. Impulse from Force–Time Graphs | 力-时间图与冲量

    The area under a force–time graph represents the impulse exerted, which equals the change in momentum. For a constant force, the graph is a rectangle and impulse = F × Δt. For a varying force, such as during a foot-ball impact, the area can be estimated by counting grid squares or approximating the shape as a triangle.

    力-时间图下的面积代表施加的冲量,等于动量的变化。若力恒定,图像为矩形,冲量 = F × Δt。若力变化(例如脚撞击球的过程),可通过数格点或近似为三角形来估算面积。

    Typical WJEC examination questions provide a graph of force against time for a brief impact and ask you to determine the change in momentum of the struck object, or to calculate the average force. Remember to read the time axis carefully and convert to SI units.

    典型的 WJEC 试题会给出短暂冲击过程的力-时间图像,要求确定被撞物体的动量变化,或计算平均力。记得仔细读取时间轴并转换为国际单位。

    10. Momentum and Safety (Crumple Zones) | 动量与安全(缓冲区域)

    Vehicle safety features – crumple zones, airbags, and seatbelts – are designed using the principle of impulse. By increasing the collision time Δt, the same change in momentum Δp results in a smaller average force F on the occupants, because F = Δp/Δt. This reduces injury.

    车辆的安全设计——溃缩区、安全气囊和安全带——都利用了冲量原理。通过延长碰撞时间 Δt,同样的动量变化 Δp 导致作用在乘员上的平均力 F 减小,因为 F = Δp/Δt。这降低了伤害。

    This application is a favorite in both IB and WJEC papers. You should be able to explain, using momentum concepts, why a car with a longer crumple zone provides better protection, or why bending your knees when landing from a jump reduces the impact force.

    这是 IB 和 WJEC 试卷中的常见应用题。你需要能够运用动量概念解释为何溃缩区更长的汽车能提供更好保护,或为什么跳落时屈膝能减小冲击力。

    11. Experimental Determination of Momentum | 动量实验测定

    A standard experiment uses two dynamics trolleys on a friction-compensated track. One trolley is given a known velocity and collides with a stationary trolley. Velocities are measured using light gates, ticker timers or motion sensors. The product mass × velocity is calculated before and after to verify conservation.

    标准实验使用两辆在补偿摩擦的轨道上运行的动力学小车。一辆小车获得已知速度后与静止小车碰撞。通过光门、打点计时器或运动传感器测量速度,分别计算碰撞前后的质量×速度以验证守恒。

    For an explosion, two trolleys are held together with a compressed spring between them; when released, they push apart. The total momentum remains zero, so the ratio of their speeds is inversely proportional to the ratio of their masses: v₁/v₂ = m₂/m₁.

    爆炸实验中,两辆小车中间夹有压缩弹簧并保持静止;释放后它们彼此分开。总动量保持为零,因此二者的速率比与质量比成反比:v₁/v₂ = m₂/m₁。

    12. Exam Tips and Common Pitfalls | 考试技巧与常见错误

    Always define a positive direction before writing any equation, and use a consistent sign convention for all velocities. Momentum is a vector – when an object reverses direction, its momentum changes sign, which must be reflected in Δp calculations.

    在书写任何方程之前务必规定正方向,并对所有速度采用一致的符号规则。动量是矢量——当物体反向运动时,动量的正负号也会改变,这在计算 Δp 时必须反映出来。

    Do not assume kinetic energy is conserved unless the question explicitly states the collision is elastic. Many candidates mistakenly apply the elastic kinetic energy equation to inelastic events. If objects stick together, it is a perfectly inelastic collision; use only momentum conservation.

    除非题目明确说明碰撞是弹性的,否则不要假设动能守恒。许多考生误将弹性动能方程用于非弹性事件。如果物体粘在一起,即为完全非弹性碰撞,此时只应用动量守恒。

    In two-dimensional problems, resolve momenta into perpendicular components and write separate conservation equations. Double-check that your final answers are physically plausible – speeds should not exceed the speed of light, and the kinetic energy after a collision should not be greater than before (unless there is an energy source like an explosion).

    处理二维问题时,将动量分解为相互垂直的分量并写出独立的守恒方程。最后检查答案是否物理合理——速度不应超过光速,碰撞后的动能不应大于碰撞前(除非有爆炸等能量来源)。

    Present your solution using clear, logical steps: write the conservation law in symbols,

    In GCSE Physics, students often mix up closely related terms. This article clarifies ten key pairs of concepts that appear frequently in Edexcel exams, highlighting their essential differences with precise definitions, equations, and real-world examples. Mastering these distinctions will strengthen your understanding and improve exam performance.

    在 GCSE 物理中,学生经常混淆一些意义相近的术语。本文辨析 Edexcel 考试中经常出现的十组核心概念,通过精准的定义、公式和实例说明它们的关键区别。掌握这些辨析将加深你的理解并提升考试成绩。

    1. Scalar and Vector Quantities | 标量与矢量

    A scalar quantity has magnitude (size) only. Examples include mass, speed, distance, energy and time. No direction is involved.

    标量只有大小,没有方向。例如质量、速率、路程、能量和时间。

    A vector quantity has both magnitude and direction. Examples are velocity, displacement, force, acceleration and weight. The direction is essential for complete description.

    矢量既有大小又有方向。例如速度、位移、力、加速度和重力。必须指出方向才能完整描述。

    Scalar (标量) Vector (矢量)
    Mass (kg) Weight (N) – acts downwards
    Speed (m/s) Velocity (m/s) – must state direction
    Distance (m) Displacement (m) – straight line in a given direction
    Energy (J) Force (N) – e.g. 5 N east

    2. Distance and Displacement | 路程与位移

    Distance is the total length of the path travelled. It is a scalar; no direction is recorded. For example, if you walk 400 m around a running track, the distance is 400 m.

    路程是物体运动轨迹的总长度,是标量,不涉及方向。例如,绕跑道走一圈 400 m,路程就是 400 m。

    Displacement is the straight-line distance from start to finish in a specific direction. After completing one full lap, your displacement is 0 m (you return to the starting point).

    位移是从起点到终点的直线距离,并指明方向。完成一整圈后,位移为 0 m(回到起点)。

    displacement = final position − initial position

    位移 = 末位置 − 初位置

    3. Speed and Velocity | 速率与速度

    Speed is the rate of change of distance: speed = distance ÷ time. It is a scalar, and a typical value might be 50 km/h, with no direction mentioned.

    速率是路程对时间的变化率:速率 = 路程 ÷ 时间。它是标量,例如 50 km/h,不指明方向。

    Velocity is the rate of change of displacement: velocity = displacement ÷ time. Because displacement is a vector, velocity must also have a direction. A car moving around a bend at constant speed changes its velocity because the direction changes.

    速度是位移对时间的变化率:速度 = 位移 ÷ 时间。位移是矢量,因此速度必须带方向。汽车以恒定速率转弯时,方向改变,所以速度也在变。

    v = Δs / Δt (where Δs is displacement)

    v = Δs / Δt(其中 Δs 为位移)

    4. Mass and Weight | 质量与重量

    Mass is the amount of matter in an object and is measured in kilograms (kg). Mass is a scalar and does not change with location – a 1 kg bag of sugar has the same mass on Earth, on the Moon, or in space.

    质量是物体所含物质的多少,单位是千克 (kg),是标量,不随位置变化——一袋 1 kg 的糖在地球、月球或太空中质量相同。

    Weight is the gravitational force acting on a mass. It is a vector, measured in newtons (N), and acts towards the centre of the planet. Weight depends on the gravitational field strength g.

    重量是作用在物体上的重力,是矢量,单位为牛顿 (N),方向指向地心。重量取决于重力场强度 g。

    W = m × g

    重力 = 质量 × 重力场强度

    On Earth g ≈ 9.8 N/kg; on the Moon g ≈ 1.6 N/kg. So the same mass weighs about six times less on the Moon.

    地球上 g 约 9.8 N/kg;月球上 g 约 1.6 N/kg。因此同一质量在月球上的重量约为地球的六分之一。

    5. Force and Pressure | 力与压强

    Force is a push or pull that can change an object’s motion. It is a vector, measured in newtons (N), and described by its magnitude and direction. Contact forces and non-contact forces (like gravity) are included.

    力是能改变物体运动状态的推或拉,是矢量,单位牛顿 (N),需指明大小和方向,包括接触力和非接触力(如重力)。

    Pressure is the force acting per unit area. It is a scalar, even though it is calculated from a force, because it describes how concentrated the force is over a surface, without a unique direction.

    压强是单位面积上所受的力。虽然由力计算而来,但它是标量,因为它描述力在面上作用的集中程度,并不指向某个特定方向。

    p = F / A

    压强 = 力 / 面积

    A sharp knife cuts easily because the small area produces high pressure, even with a modest force. The same force applied by a flat palm creates low pressure.

    锋利的刀容易切割,是因为即使力不大,极小的接触面积也会产生很高的压强。同样大小的力用手掌施压,压强却很低。

    6. Work Done and Power | 做功与功率

    Work done is the energy transferred when a force moves an object. It is a scalar measured in joules (J). If the force and displacement are in the same direction:

    做功是力使物体移动时传递的能量,是标量,单位焦耳 (J)。当力与位移同向时:

    W = F × d

    功 = 力 × 位移(沿力的方向)

    Power is the rate of doing work, i.e. how quickly energy is transferred. It is measured in watts (W). 1 W = 1 J/s.

    功率是做功的快慢,即能量传递的速率,单位瓦特 (W)。1 W = 1 J/s。

    P = W / t or P = E / t

    功率 = 功 / 时间 或 能量 / 时间

    Lifting the same weight faster requires the same work but greater power. A 60 W light bulb transfers 60 J of electrical energy into light and heat every second.

    更快地举起同一重物做的功相同,但功率更大。一个 60 W 的灯泡每秒将 60 J 电能转化为光和热。

    7. Kinetic Energy and Gravitational Potential Energy | 动能与重力势能

    Kinetic energy (KE) is the energy an object possesses due to its motion. It depends on mass and the square of speed.

    动能是物体由于运动而具有的能量,取决于质量和速度的平方。

    KE = ½ m v²

    动能 = ½ × 质量 × 速度²

    Doubling the speed quadruples the kinetic energy, whereas doubling the mass only doubles it. This explains why high-speed collisions are so much more dangerous.

    速度加倍,动能变为四倍;而质量加倍,动能只变为两倍。这解释了为什么高速碰撞的危害大得多。

    Gravitational potential energy (GPE) is the energy stored in an object due to its height in a gravitational field.

    重力势能是物体因处于高处而储存的能量。

    GPE = m g h

    重力势能 = 质量 × 重力场强度 × 高度

    In a pendulum, GPE at the highest point converts into KE at the lowest point. Energy is conserved, but the forms interchange.

    在单摆中,最高点的重力势能转化为最低点的动能。能量守恒,但形式相互转化。

    8. Heat and Temperature | 热量与温度

    Heat is the thermal energy transferred from a hotter object to a cooler one because of a temperature difference. It is measured in joules (J) and is not a property of the object itself – it flows during a process.

    热量是由于温度差而从高温物体传递到低温物体的热能,单位焦耳 (J)。热量不是物体自身拥有的属性——它是一个过程中流动的能量。

    Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in a substance. It is measured in degrees Celsius (°C) or kelvin (K) and does not depend on the amount of substance.

    温度是物质内粒子平均动能的量度,单位摄氏度 (°C) 或开尔文 (K),与物质的多少无关。

    Heat (热量) Temperature (温度)
    Energy in transit (J) Average particle KE measure (°C / K)
    Depends on mass, specific heat capacity and temperature change: Q = m c Δθ Does not depend on mass
    A spark can have very high temperature but contains little heat because its mass is tiny. A hot spark (maybe 1000°C) transfers only a small amount of energy.

    9. Current and Voltage | 电流与电压

    Electric current is the rate of flow of electric charge. It is measured in amperes (A), where 1 A = 1 coulomb per second. In a circuit, current is not ‘used up’ – it is the same at all points in a single loop.

    电流是电荷流动的速率,单位安培 (A),1 A = 1 库仑/秒。在电路中,电流不会被“消耗”——单一回路中各处电流相等。

    I = Q / t

    电流 = 电荷量 / 时间

    Voltage (potential difference) is the energy transferred per unit charge. It is measured in volts (V), where 1 V = 1 J/C. Voltage pushes the charge around the circuit; it is like the ‘electrical pressure’.

    电压(电势差)是单位电荷传递的能量,单位伏特 (V),1 V = 1 J/C。电压推动电荷在电路里移动,好比“电的压力”。

    In a series circuit, the same current flows through all components, but the voltage is shared. In a parallel circuit, the voltage across each branch is the same, but the current splits. Often students think voltage flows; it does not – charge flows, and voltage is applied across components.

    串联电路中,各处电流相同,电压被分配;并联电路中,各支路电压相同,电流分流。学生常误以为“电压流动”——实际流动的是电荷,电压是施加在元件两端的。

    10. Series and Parallel Circuits | 串联与并联电路

    This last section draws together the differences between the two fundamental circuit arrangements, which are often confused in exam questions.

    最后一节汇总两种基本电路连接方式的区别,这两者在考题中极易混淆。

    Series Circuit (串联电路) Parallel Circuit (并联电路)
    There is only one path for the current. There are multiple branches or paths.
    Current is the same at every point: I₁ = I₂ = I₃ Total current splits; sum of branch currents = total current.
    Total voltage is shared: V_total = V₁ + V₂ + … Voltage across each branch is the same: V₁ = V₂ = V_total
    Total resistance increases as more resistors are added: R_total = R₁ + R₂ + … Total resistance decreases as more branches are added (more paths for current).
    If one component fails, the whole circuit is broken (e.g. old fairy lights). If one branch fails, others can still work (e.g. household lighting).

    The key is to remember: series – same current, shared voltage; parallel – same voltage, shared current. The behaviour of resistance in parallel can be surprising, but it makes sense if you think of adding extra lanes to a motorway – more paths make it easier for charge to flow.

    记住关键:串联——电流相同,电压分配;并联——电压相同,电流分配。并联时总电阻反而减小,这有些反直觉,但可以把它想象成增加高速公路车道——路径越多,电荷流动越容易。

    📚 IB WJEC Physics: Past Paper Analysis | IB WJEC 物理:历年真题解析

    Past papers are the single most valuable resource for mastering physics, whether you are preparing for IB Higher or Standard Level, or for the WJEC A-level specification. Careful analysis of past exam questions reveals recurring themes, common pitfalls, and the precise command words that examiners use. This article examines both IB and WJEC physics past papers side by side, highlighting how to decode mark schemes, structure high-scoring answers, and turn mistakes into learning opportunities. By integrating these two perspectives, you will develop a robust problem-solving mindset that applies across different examination boards.

    历年真题是攻克物理学科最宝贵的资源,无论你准备的是IB高/标准级别还是WJEC A-level考试。仔细剖析真题选题能够揭示反复出现的主题、常见陷阱以及考官惯用的指令词。本文同步解析IB与WJEC物理真题,着重展示如何解读评分方案、构建高分答案并把错误转化为学习契机。通过融合两种视角,你将培养出跨考纲的扎实解题思维。

    1. Understanding the Exam Structures | 理解考试结构

    IB Physics papers are divided into multiple-choice (Paper 1), short-answer and extended-response (Paper 2), and experimental/data-based questions (Paper 3). WJEC A-level Physics has a similar division, with a separate practical analysis paper that demands detailed evaluation of experiments. Knowing the time per mark is essential: IB Paper 2 gives approximately 1.25 minutes per mark, while WJEC Unit 2 offers around 1.1 minutes. This small difference forces you to adjust pacing during revision.

    IB 物理试卷分为选择题(卷1)、简答与拓展回答(卷2)以及实验/数据题(卷3)。WJEC A-level 物理划分类似,但设有一份独立的实验分析卷,要求对实验进行细致评估。清楚每个分数对应的时间至关重要:IB 卷2 约 1.25 分钟/分,WJEC 单元2 则为约 1.1 分钟。这微小差异要求你在复习时调整答题节奏。

    Both boards reward precise scientific vocabulary. For instance, “state” requires a brief fact, while “explain” demands linking principles to the situation. Practising with a glossary of command words from past papers prevents loss of easy marks.

    两个考试机构都青睐精确的科学用语。例如,“陈述”只需简明事实,“解释”则需将原理与情境关联。利用真题中的指令词词汇表进行练习,可以避免丢掉容易获得的分。

    2. Mechanics: Common Pitfalls and Strategies | 力学:常见错误与策略

    Projectile motion questions frequently appear, and students often forget to resolve initial velocity into components. In an IB paper, a typical mistake is applying v = u + at without separating horizontal and vertical motions. WJEC papers similarly test this, often embedding it in sports contexts like a golf ball’s flight. Always write down the suvat equations in component form: vₓ = uₓ, vᵧ = uᵧ − gt.

    抛体运动问题频繁出现,学生常忘记将初速度分解为分量。IB 试卷中,常见的错误是直接使用 v = u + at 而未区分水平和垂直运动。WJEC 试卷类似,常将题目嵌入高尔夫球飞行等运动场景。始终要把 suvat 方程写成分量形式:vₓ = uₓ,vᵧ = uᵧ − gt。

    Another recurrent theme is conservation of momentum in collisions. In IB, you might be asked to sketch an impulse–time graph; in WJEC, to calculate the change in kinetic energy and comment on elasticity. Both require a clear understanding that momentum is a vector, so direction must be assigned positive and negative signs.

    另一个常见主题是碰撞中的动量守恒。IB 可能会要求绘制冲量-时间图;WJEC 则要求计算动能变化并判断弹性。两者都要求清晰理解动量为矢量,因此必须为正负方向赋值。

    3. Waves and Oscillations: Decoding Diagrams | 波与振动:图解破译

    Past papers from both boards love testing wave phenomena through diagrams of ripple tanks or standing waves on strings. IB questions often ask you to deduce wavelength from a given harmonic, while WJEC questions may present a stretched string with fixed ends and expect calculation of frequency using f = (1/2L)√(T/μ). Misreading the number of antinodes is a frequent error—always label nodes and antinodes directly on the diagram.

    两个考局的真题都爱用涟漪槽或弦上驻波的图像来考查波现象。IB 题目通常要求从给定谐波推导波长,WJEC 题目可能呈现两端固定的弦,要求利用 f = (1/2L)√(T/μ) 计算频率。数错波腹数量是常见错误——务必直接在图上标出波节和波腹。

    Interference patterns require precise path difference reasoning. In double-slit experiments (IB standard), the condition for bright fringes is d sin θ = nλ. WJEC extends this to the diffraction grating, often asking for the highest order visible. A top tip from past papers: convert all units to metres before substitution to avoid powers-of-ten mistakes.

    干涉图样需要精确的光程差推理。在双缝实验中(IB 标准),亮条纹条件为 d sin θ = nλ。WJEC 将此延伸至衍射光栅,常要求计算可见的最高级次。真题中的首要建议:代入前将所有单位转换为米,避免十的幂次错误。

    4. Electricity and Magnetism: Circuit Analysis Mastery | 电磁学:电路分析精通

    Kirchhoff’s laws form the backbone of circuit questions. IB Paper 2 often presents a network with mixed series and parallel resistors, asking for the potential difference across a specific component. WJEC past papers add an extra layer by incorporating internal resistance of a cell, requiring use of ε = I(R + r). Many candidates lose marks by forgetting that the terminal p.d. drops when current increases. Draw a fresh circuit diagram and label all known quantities before applying the rules.

    基尔霍夫定律是电路题的基石。IB 卷2 经常给出一个串并联混合网络,求特定元件两端的电势差。WJEC 真题则额外加入电池内阻,要求使用 ε = I(R + r)。许多考生因忘记电流增大时端电压会下降而失分。重新绘制电路图并标注所有已知量,再应用定律。

    Magnetic forces on moving charges feature in both specifications. The equation F = qvB sin θ is standard, but the key to scoring full marks is defining θ as the angle between velocity vector and magnetic field lines. A classic IB data-based question shows a charged particle entering a uniform field at an angle; WJEC similarly asks to describe the resulting helical path. Use your right-hand rule explicitly and state whether the particle deflects clockwise or anticlockwise.

    运动电荷在磁场中的受力是两套大纲的共有考点。公式 F = qvB sin θ 是常规内容,但获取满分的关键在于明确 θ 是速度矢量与磁场线之间的夹角。IB 的经典数据题常展示带电粒子以某角度进入匀强磁场;WJEC 同样要求描述产生的螺旋路径。明确使用右手定则,并说明粒子偏转是顺时针还是逆时针。

    5. Thermal Physics: Ideal Gas and Misconceptions | 热物理:理想气体与常见误解

    Past papers repeatedly target the difference between ideal and real gases. IB questions often supply a graph of pV against p and ask for an explanation of deviation at high pressure. WJEC may ask you to state two conditions under which real gases approximate ideal behavior. A high-scoring answer always links to finite molecular volume and intermolecular forces. Do not simply write “molecules have volume”—explain that at high pressure, the volume of molecules becomes significant compared to the container volume.

    真题反复考查理想气体与真实气体的区别。IB 题目常提供 pV–p 图,要求解释高压下的偏离。WJEC 可能会问真实气体近似理想行为的两个条件。高分答案始终关联到有限的分子体积和分子间作用力。不要仅写“分子有体积”——要解释在高压下,分子体积与容器体积相比变得不可忽略。

    The first law of thermodynamics, ΔU = Q + W, appears with subtle sign conventions. IB specifies that work done on the gas is positive, while WJEC uses ΔU = Q − W (work done by the gas). Check the front of your data booklet or formula sheet! Many examiners’ reports highlight sign errors; always annotate the system and surroundings on your diagram.

    热力学第一定律 ΔU = Q + W 伴随着微妙的符号约定。IB 规定对气体做功为正,而 WJEC 使用 ΔU = Q − W(气体对外做功)。务必核对数据手册或公式表!许多考官报告强调符号错误;始终在示意图上标明系统和外界。

    6. Nuclear and Particle Physics: Decay Equations | 核与粒子物理:衰变方程

    Balancing nuclear equations requires conservation of both nucleon number and proton number. A/B and α/β decay problems appear in every IB and WJEC exam series. In IB, you may need to identify the unknown particle in a reaction such as ²³⁸₉₂U → ²³⁴₉₀Th + ⁴₂He + energy. WJEC papers often include positron decay and electron capture, testing the finer details of the weak interaction. Use a table to track atomic numbers before and after, verifying that the total charge and baryon number are conserved.

    核反应方程的配平需要同时满足核子数和质子数守恒。α/β 衰变问题出现在每一次 IB 和 WJEC 考试系列中。在 IB 中,你可能需要确定未知粒子,例如反应 ²³⁸₉₂U → ²³⁴₉₀Th + ⁴₂He + 能量。WJEC 试卷常包含正电子衰变和电子捕获,考查弱相互作用的细节。用表格追踪反应前后的原子序数,验证总电荷和重子数守恒。

    Half-life calculations often involve exponential decay, N(t) = N₀ e⁻λᵗ. A typical IB question provides activity versus time data and asks for the decay constant λ. WJEC might give the half-life in years and expect conversion to seconds. Past papers prove that students stumble when they skip unit conversion; always express λ in s⁻¹ unless stated otherwise.

    半衰期计算通常涉及指数衰减 N(t) = N₀ e⁻λᵗ。典型的 IB 题目给出活度-时间数据,要求计算衰变常数 λ。WJEC 可能以年为半衰期单位,要求转换为秒。真题表明,跳过单位转换会导致失分;除非特别说明,始终用 s⁻¹ 表示 λ。

    7. Data-Based Questions: Interpreting Graphs | 数据题:图表解读

    IB Paper 3 and WJEC’s practical paper share a focus on graph skills. High-frequency tasks include plotting uncertainties as error bars, drawing best-fit lines, and calculating gradient uncertainties. A common past-paper requirement: determine the area under a curve to find work done or impulse. Use thin vertical strips and describe your method as “counting squares” or “trapezoidal approximation”. Explicitly state the number of squares counted to demonstrate rigour.

    IB 卷3 和 WJEC 实验卷同样侧重图表技能。高频任务包括用误差棒表示不确定度、绘制最佳拟合线并计算斜率不确定度。真题中常见的要求:通过曲线下面积求功或冲量。用窄竖条,方法表述为“数格法”或“梯形近似”。明确数出的格数以展示严谨性。

    The most frequently lost mark in this section is the failure to analyse a logarithmic plot. Both boards ask you to linearise relationships, e.g., plotting ln y against x to extract a decay constant. Always write the linearised equation next to the raw formula: if theory says y = A e⁻ᵏˣ, then ln y = ln A − k x. The gradient of the ln y versus x graph is −k, not k. Highlighting this in your answer impresses the examiner.

    这一部分最常丢失的分数是未能分析对数图像。两个考局都要求你将关系线性化,例如绘制 ln y 随 x 变化的图来提取衰变常数。始终在原始公式旁写出线性化方程:若理论为 y = A e⁻ᵏˣ,则 ln y = ln A − k x。ln y–x 图的斜率是 −k,而不是 k。在答案中强调这点能给考官留下深刻印象。

    8. Extended Response: Structuring Answers | 拓展回答:答题结构

    IB’s long answer questions and WJEC’s 6-mark QWC items require a logical flow. Start by stating the relevant physics principle (e.g., Newton’s third law, Faraday’s law). Then apply it to the specific scenario, using numerical values if provided. Finally, conclude with a clear evaluative sentence that answers the exact command word. This “Principle–Application–Conclusion” framework is highly rewarded in both mark schemes.

    IB 的长答题和 WJEC 的 6 分表达质量题需要清晰的逻辑流。首先陈述相关的物理原理(如牛顿第三定律、法拉第定律)。然后将其应用于具体场景,若有数值则代入。最后以一句明确的评价性句子收尾,精准回应指令词。这种“原理—应用—结论”框架在两套评分方案中都备受青睐。

    Diagrams are often underutilised. A quick force diagram or ray sketch can save you from writing two paragraphs. In an IB optics question, drawing an arrow for image formation and stating whether it is real or virtual instantly earns clarity marks. In WJEC mechanics, a free-body diagram with all forces labelled resolves confusion about which forces act. Remember to include arrows and brief annotations.

    图表的作用常被低估。一个快速的受力图或光路草图可以省去两大段文字。在 IB 光学题中,画出箭头示意成像并说明实像还是虚像,能立即获得清晰度分数。在 WJEC 力学中,标注全部力的受力图可厘清哪些力在起作用。记得画上箭头并作简要标注。

    9. Common Mistakes from Past Papers | 历年真题常见错误

    Examiner reports consistently flag unit conversions. Failing to convert cm² to m² before calculating pressure or stress is a classic error across both boards. Create a habit: before beginning any calculation, write down the quantity in base SI units. For example, area = 4 cm² = 4 × 10⁻⁴ m². This simple practice prevents large power-of-ten errors.

    考官报告持续警告单位转换问题。在计算压强或应力前未能将 cm² 转化为 m² 是两考局共有的经典错误。养成习惯:开始任何计算前,用基本国际单位写出物理量。例如,面积 = 4 cm² = 4 × 10⁻⁴ m²。这个简单做法能避免量级错误。

    Another widespread mistake is confusing vectors with scalars. When an IB question asks “calculate the resultant force”, students simply add magnitudes without considering direction. WJEC resolves this by demanding vector diagrams drawn to scale or use of Pythagoras. Always check if quantities are directed; draw a quick vector polygon if necessary.

    另一个普遍错误是混淆矢量和标量。当 IB 题目要求“计算合力”时,学生直接相加数值而不考虑方向。WJEC 则要求按比例绘制矢量图或运用勾股定理来解决。始终检查物理量是否有方向;必要时快速画出矢量多边形。

    10. Tips for Revision Using Past Papers | 利用真题复习技巧

    Do not simply do papers chronologically. Instead, group questions by topic and create a “mistakes diary”. For each incorrect answer, write the topic, the specific misconception, and the corrected reasoning. Past paper evidence shows that students who revisit the same topic three times over two weeks see a 20% improvement in that area. This spaced repetition turns short-term memory into deep understanding.

    不要仅按时间顺序刷题。相反,按主题分组题目并创建“错误日志”。对每个答错的题,记下主题、具体误解及更正后的推理。真题数据表明,在两周内重温同一主题三次的学生,该领域进步可达 20 %。这种间隔重复将短期记忆转化为深度理解。

    Finally, simulate exam conditions but also practise “bookwork” – key derivations like the equations of motion from first principles. IB frequently asks for a derivation of s = ut + ½ at² using a velocity–time graph; WJEC requires derivation of centripetal acceleration. These questions test your fundamental understanding and, if mastered, can secure easy high marks. Pair a complete derivation with a clearly labelled diagram for full marks.

    最后,既要模拟考试环境,也要练习“书本功”——从第一性原理出发的关键推导,比如利用速度-时间图推导 s = ut + ½ at²。IB 常考此类推导;WJEC 要求推导向心加速度。这些题目考察根本理解,一旦掌握就能锁定高分。将完整推导与清晰标注的图表搭配使用,即可获满分。

    📚 GCSE Physics: Gravitational Force Revision Guide | GCSE 物理:万有引力 考点精讲

    Gravity is one of the most fundamental forces in the universe, shaping everything from falling apples to orbiting planets. In GCSE Physics, understanding gravitational force is essential for explaining weight, planetary motion, and the structure of the cosmos.

    引力是宇宙中最基本的力之一,从苹果落地到行星轨道运行,它塑造了万物的运动规律。在GCSE物理课程中,理解万有引力是解释重量、天体运动以及宇宙结构的关键。

    1. What is Gravity? | 什么是万有引力?

    Gravity, or gravitational force, is a non-contact attractive force that acts between any two objects with mass. The larger the masses, the stronger the attraction, and the greater the distance between them, the weaker the force.

    万有引力是一种非接触的吸引力,作用于任何两个有质量的物体之间。质量越大,引力越强;物体间的距离越大,引力越弱。

    It is always attractive and never repulsive. Unlike magnetism or static electricity, gravity cannot be shielded or cancelled, and it acts over infinite distances.

    它总是吸引力,从不相斥。与磁力或静电力不同,引力无法被屏蔽或抵消,并且作用范围无限。

    The concept of universal gravitation was famously formulated by Isaac Newton, who realised that the same force pulling an apple to the ground keeps the Moon in orbit around the Earth.

    万有引力的概念由艾萨克·牛顿提出,他意识到让苹果落地的力也同样使得月球绕地球运行。

    2. Mass vs. Weight | 质量与重量

    One of the most common misconceptions is confusing mass and weight. Mass is the amount of matter in an object and is measured in kilograms (kg). Weight is the gravitational force acting on that mass, measured in newtons (N).

    最常见的误区是混淆质量和重量。质量是物体所含物质的多少,单位是千克(kg)。重量是作用在该质量上的引力,单位是牛顿(N)。

    Mass is a scalar quantity and does not change with location. Weight is a vector quantity and depends on the gravitational field strength (g).

    质量是标量,不随位置改变。重量是矢量,取决于所在位置的引力场强度(g)。

    The relationship is given by the equation: W = m × g, where W is weight in newtons, m is mass in kg, and g is gravitational field strength in N/kg. On Earth, g ≈ 9.8 N/kg.

    三者关系由公式表示:W = m × g,W 是重量(牛顿),m 是质量(千克),g 是引力场强度(N/kg)。在地球表面,g ≈ 9.8 N/kg。

    3. Gravitational Field Strength | 引力场强度

    Gravitational field strength (g) is the force per unit mass exerted by a gravitational field. It tells us how many newtons of force act on each kilogram of mass at a given point.

    引力场强度(g)是单位质量所受的引力。它表示在给定位置,每千克质量受到多少牛顿的引力。

    On Earth, g is about 9.8 N/kg, but it varies slightly with altitude and latitude. On the Moon, g is only about 1.6 N/kg. This means objects weigh about six times less on the Moon, though their mass stays the same.

    地球表面的g约为9.8 N/kg,但随海拔和纬度稍有变化。月球表面的g只有约1.6 N/kg,因此物体在月球上的重量约为地球的1/6,但质量不变。

    Gravitational field strength is represented by a vector pointing toward the centre of the mass creating the field. Field lines are drawn as radial arrows pointing inward, and the spacing indicates field strength — closer lines mean stronger field.

    引力场强度由指向引力源中心的矢量表示。场线用向内辐射的箭头画出,线的疏密表示场的强弱——线越密,场越强。

    4. Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation | 牛顿万有引力定律

    Newton’s law of universal gravitation states that the force between two point masses is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centres.

    牛顿万有引力定律指出,两个质点之间的引力与它们的质量乘积成正比,与它们中心距离的平方成反比。

    In equation form: F = G × (m₁ × m₂) / r², where F is the gravitational force, m₁ and m₂ are the masses, r is the distance between their centres, and G is the universal gravitational constant (approximately 6.674 × 10⁻¹¹ N·m²/kg²).

    公式表示为:F = G × (m₁ × m₂) / r²,F 是引力,m₁和m₂是两个质量,r 是质心距离,G 是万有引力常数(约为6.674 × 10⁻¹¹ N·m²/kg²)。

    G is an extremely small number, which is why gravitational forces between everyday objects are negligible — you need planetary-scale masses to feel significant gravity.

    G 的数值极小,这就是为什么日常物体间的引力可以忽略不计——只有在行星级别的质量上,才能感受到明显的引力。

    5. Factors Affecting Gravitational Force | 影响引力大小的因素

    The strength of gravitational attraction depends on two key variables: the masses involved and the separation distance.

    引力大小取决于两个关键变量:物体的质量和它们之间的距离。

    If you double the mass of one object, the force doubles. If you double both masses, the force quadruples. This is a direct proportion.

    如果其中一个物体的质量翻倍,引力也翻倍。如果两个质量都翻倍,引力变为原来的4倍。这是正比关系。

    If you double the distance between their centres, the force becomes one-quarter (1/4) of the original — an inverse square relationship. Tripling the distance reduces the force to one-ninth (1/9).

    如果质心距离翻倍,引力变为原来的1/4——这是平方反比关系。距离变为3倍,引力变为1/9。

    This inverse square law explains why gravitational field strength rapidly weakens as you move away from a planet.

    平方反比定律解释了为什么离行星越远,引力场强度衰减得越快。

    6. Gravity and Planetary Orbits | 引力与行星轨道

    Gravity provides the centripetal force required to keep planets, moons, and artificial satellites in (nearly) circular orbits around larger bodies.

    引力提供了行星、卫星和人造天体绕较大天体做(近似)圆周运动所需的向心力。

    For a satellite in a stable orbit, the gravitational force from the central body equals the centripetal force needed. This means: G × M × m / r² = m × v² / r, where M is the central mass, m the satellite mass, v the orbital speed, and r the orbital radius.

    对于稳定轨道上的卫星,中心天体的引力等于所需的向心力:G × M × m / r² = m × v² / r,其中 M 是中心天体质量,m 是卫星质量,v 是轨道速度,r 是轨道半径。

    From this relationship, we find that orbital speed decreases with increasing orbital radius. Planets closer to the Sun orbit faster than those farther away.

    由此可知,轨道半径越大,轨道速度越慢。离太阳较近的行星比较远的行星运行得更快。

    7. Gravity and the Solar System | 引力与太阳系

    The formation and stability of the Solar System rely entirely on gravity. The Sun’s enormous mass creates a deep gravitational well that governs the orbits of all planets, asteroids, and comets.

    太阳系的形成和稳定完全依赖于引力。太阳巨大的质量形成了一个深引力阱,支配着所有行星、小行星和彗星的轨道。

    Gravity also caused the initial collapse of gas and dust clouds (nebulae) to form the Sun and planets. This is called accretion — small clumps of matter attracted more material until planets took shape.

    引力也促使最初的气体和尘埃云(星云)坍缩,形成了太阳和行星。这个过程称为吸积——物质的小团块通过引力吸引更多物质,最终形成行星。

    Tides on Earth are driven by the differential gravity of the Moon and the Sun, demonstrating how gravity acts across large distances to shape everyday phenomena.

    地球上的潮汐由月球和太阳的引力差所驱动,这展示了引力如何跨越遥远距离塑造日常现象。

    8. Weightlessness and Free Fall | 失重与自由落体

    Astronauts in orbit around the Earth appear weightless, but this is not because gravity is absent — Earth’s gravity is still almost as strong as on the surface. They experience ‘weightlessness’ because they are in continuous free fall toward Earth.

    绕地轨道上的宇航员看起来处于失重状态,但这并不是因为没有引力——地球引力几乎和地表一样强。他们之所以“失重”,是因为他们持续处于向地球自由落体的状态。

    Since the spacecraft and the astronaut are both accelerating at the same rate due to gravity, there is no reaction force between them, creating the sensation of weightlessness. This is the same as being in a freely falling lift.

    由于飞船和宇航员都以相同的重力加速度下落,它们之间没有接触力,产生了失重感。这与在自由下落的电梯中的体验相同。

    Understanding this concept helps clarify that ‘weightlessness’ is not zero gravity, but rather the absence of a support force.

    理解这个概念有助于澄清,“失重”并非零引力,而是缺乏支持力。

    9. Gravitational Potential Energy | 引力势能

    For GCSE, gravitational potential energy (GPE) is the energy stored in an object due to its position above the ground in a gravitational field. It is calculated using: Eₚ = m × g × h, where m is mass (kg), g is gravitational field strength (N/kg), and h is height above a reference level (m).

    在GCSE阶段,引力势能(GPE)是物体由于位于引力场中地面以上某一位置而储存的能量。计算公式:Eₚ = m × g × h,m 为质量(kg),g 为引力场强度(N/kg),h 为参考面以上的高度(m)。

    This assumes g is constant, which is a valid approximation near the Earth’s surface. GPE is measured in joules (J).

    这个公式假设g是恒定的,这在地表附近是有效的近似。GPE的单位是焦耳(J)。

    As an object falls, its GPE is converted into kinetic energy. This energy transfer obeys the conservation of energy, one of the core principles examined in GCSE Physics.

    当物体下落时,它的引力势能转化为动能。这个能量转换遵循能量守恒定律,是GCSE物理考查的核心原理之一。

    10. Calculations and Common Exam Questions | 计算与常见考题

    Typical GCSE questions ask you to calculate weight using W = m × g, or to compare weights on different planets by substituting the appropriate g values. You may also need to rearrange Eₚ = mgh or explain why weight changes but mass stays the same.

    典型的GCSE考题要求你用W = m × g计算重量,或者通过代入不同的g值比较不同星球上的重量。你也可能需要变换公式Eₚ = mgh,或解释为什么重量改变而质量不变。

    Another common style is data analysis: given orbital radii and periods, you might be asked to describe the relationship predicted by gravity, or interpret how doubling the distance affects force.

    另一常见题型是数据分析:给定轨道半径和周期,要求描述引力预测的关系,或解释距离翻倍如何影响力。

    Make sure to always include correct units (kg, N, m, J) and show substitution steps clearly, as many marks are awarded for working.

    务必标明正确单位(kg、N、m、J)并清晰展示代入步骤,因为解题过程也占有大量分数。

    11. Gravity and the Expanding Universe | 引力与宇宙膨胀

    On a cosmic scale, gravity competes with the expansion of the Universe. While gravity tries to pull galaxies together, the expansion of space-time (driven by dark energy) is pushing them apart.

    在宇宙尺度上,引力与宇宙膨胀相互角力。引力试图将星系拉在一起,而时空膨胀(由暗能量驱动)却在使它们远离。

    The Big Bang theory describes the origin of the Universe, and gravity played a crucial role in clumping matter into stars and galaxies. Future A-Level studies will explore this in more depth, but for GCSE it is enough to know that gravity acts across the whole Universe.

    大爆炸理论描述了宇宙的起源,引力在物质聚集成恒星和星系的过程中起到了关键作用。今后的A-Level学习会深入探讨,但在GCSE阶段,知道引力作用于整个宇宙就足够了。

    📚 AS Physics Unit 1: Application Question Techniques from June 2022 Mark Scheme | AS物理单元1:基于2022年6月评分方案的应用题解题技巧

    Application questions in AS Physics Unit 1 can be intimidating, but the June 2022 mark scheme reveals a predictable pattern of credit-worthy responses. By studying how examiners allocate marks, you can turn rambling answers into precise, high-scoring statements. This article decodes that mark scheme, providing a clear set of techniques to handle calculations, explanations, graph work and experimental analysis.

    AS物理单元1的应用题可能让人望而生畏,但2022年6月的评分方案揭示了可预测的得分模式。通过研究考官如何分配分数,你可以把漫无边际的回答转化为精确的高分陈述。本文将解码这份评分方案,提供一套清晰的技巧来应对计算、解释、图像分析和实验分析。

    1. Understanding the Mark Scheme Structure | 理解评分方案的结构

    The June 2022 mark scheme is built around assessment objectives: AO1 (knowledge), AO2 (application) and AO3 (analysis/evaluation). Application questions primarily test AO2 and AO3. Each mark is attached to a specific point of physics, a correct substitution or a logical step. There are no ‘half marks’ for vague language; you must use precise terminology and show key stages in calculations.

    2022年6月的评分方案围绕评估目标构建:AO1(知识),AO2(应用)和AO3(分析/评价)。应用题主要考查AO2和AO3。每一分都对应一个特定的物理观点、正确的代入或逻辑步骤。含糊的语言得不到“半分”;你必须使用精确的术语并展示计算中的关键步骤。

    • English: Always scan the number of marks to gauge depth required – a 3‑mark question expects at least three distinct points or steps.
    • 中文:一定要根据分值判断所需深度——一道3分题通常需要至少三个不同的观点或步骤。
    • English: Marks are often independent, so even if you make an early error, later method marks can still be earned if the physics is correctly applied to your numbers.
    • 中文:分数通常是独立的,因此即使早期出错,只要将物理原理正确应用于你的数据,后续的方法分依然可以获得。

    2. Command Words and Their Meanings | 指令词及其含义

    Command words in the June 2022 paper such as ‘state’, ‘describe’, ‘explain’, ‘calculate’ and ‘determine’ dictate the style of answer. ‘Explain’ questions, for instance, demand a cause‑and‑effect chain written in continuous prose, whereas ‘calculate’ requires a numerical answer with unit and working. Mark schemes reward answers that directly address the command word without extra, unrequested detail.

    2022年6月试卷中的指令词如“state”(陈述)、“describe”(描述)、“explain”(解释)、“calculate”(计算)和“determine”(确定)规定了答案的风格。例如,解释题要求用连贯的句子写出因果链,而计算题则要求给出带单位的数值答案和演算过程。评分方案奖励那些直接回应指令词、不附加多余细节的答案。

    English: If asked to ‘state and explain’, do both clearly – the ‘state’ part often requires a short phrase, and the ‘explain’ part requires linking ideas with ‘because’ or ‘therefore’.

    中文:如果要求“陈述并解释”,两部分都要清晰——陈述部分通常需要一个简短词组,解释部分需要用“因为”或“因此”将观点串联起来。

    3. Equations and Unit Conversions | 方程与单位转换

    A large proportion of application marks in Unit 1 come from selecting the correct equation, substituting values with units and converting to SI. The 2022 mark scheme shows that examiners award a mark for the equation written in symbolic form (e.g. v² = u² + 2as) and separate marks for correct substitution and final answer. Unit conversions, such as cm² to m² or g to kg, are almost always required before substitution.

    单元1中很大一部分应用分来自选择正确的方程、代入带单位的数值并转换为国际单位。2022年评分方案显示,考官为符号形式的方程(例如 v² = u² + 2as)计一分,为正确代入和最终答案分别计分。单位换算(如 cm² 到 m² 或 g 到 kg)几乎总是需要在代入前完成。

    E = ½mv²    s = ut + ½at²    P = F/A

    English: Always show the base SI units in the final answer, unless the question specifies otherwise. Use the data sheet to confirm unit prefixes – for example, kN must become N (×10³) before entering an equation.

    中文:除非题目另有说明,始终在最终答案中显示基本国际单位。利用数据表确认单位前缀——例如,kN 在代入方程前必须先转换为 N(×10³)。

    4. Significant Figures and Precision | 有效数字与精度

    The June 2022 mark scheme consistently penalised answers that quoted too many or too few significant figures. Typically, final answers should be given to the same number of significant figures as the least precise piece of data in the question. An answer of ‘3.4567 m’ when inputs are given to 2 s.f. will lose the final answer mark.

    2022年6月的评分方案一再惩罚有效数字过多或过少的答案。通常,最终答案的有效数字位数应与题目中最不精确的数据保持一致。当输入数据为2位有效数字时,给出“3.4567 m”的答案将失去最终答案分。

    English Guidance 中文指导
    Quote g = 9.81 unless told 10 除非题目说明用10,否则使用 g = 9.81
    Intermediate working should keep extra figures to avoid rounding errors 中间计算步骤应保留更多位数以避免舍入误差
    Only round the final answer at the very end 只在最后一步对答案进行四舍五入

    5. Graph Analysis and Gradients | 图像分析与斜率

    Application questions frequently involve determining a gradient or area under a line. The 2022 mark scheme awarded marks for drawing a large triangle, clearly showing the coordinates used, and calculating Δy/Δx correctly. Simply quoting the gradient without showing the triangle lost marks. Units for the gradient must be derived from the axis units.

    应用题经常涉及确定斜率或线下的面积。2022年评分方案对画出一个足够大的三角形、清楚标出所用坐标并正确计算 Δy/Δx 给予分数。只给出斜率而不展示三角形会失分。斜率的单位必须由坐标轴单位推导得出。

    English: For best‑fit lines, ensure the line passes through the centroid of the data if that makes sense. When evaluating the quality of data, refer to scatter about the line and any systematic deviation.

    中文:对于最佳拟合线,如果合理,确保直线穿过数据的形心。在评价数据质量时,提及点围绕直线的分散情况以及任何系统性偏差。

    6. Experimental Uncertainties | 实验不确定性

    The 2022 mark scheme dedicated marks to calculating percentage uncertainty, typically from the smallest scale division of an instrument. For a ruler reading of 5.0 cm, the absolute uncertainty is ±0.1 cm, giving a percentage uncertainty of (0.1/5.0)×100% = 2%. When combining uncertainties (e.g. in speed from distance and time), marks were given for adding percentage uncertainties.

    2022年评分方案为计算百分不确定度设置了专门分数,通常由仪器的最小刻度决定。对于一把尺子的读数 5.0 cm,绝对不确定度为 ±0.1 cm,百分不确定度为 (0.1/5.0)×100% = 2%。在合成不确定度时(例如通过距离和时间求速度),给出了将百分不确定度相加的分数。

    English: Always state the uncertainty to the same number of decimal places as the measurement. When there is a large spread in repeated readings, use half the range as the absolute uncertainty.

    中文:一定让不确定度的小数位数与测量值一致。当重复读数散布较大时,使用极差的一半作为绝对不确定度。

    7. Multi-step Calculation Questions | 多步计算题

    Multi-step questions in the 2022 paper tested the ability to link different areas of physics – for example, combining Newton’s second law with kinematics or energy conservation with projectile motion. The mark scheme gave method marks for using the correct principle at each stage, even if an earlier numerical mistake was made. Clearly number your steps (Step 1, Step 2…) to help the examiner follow your logic.

    2022年试卷中的多步题考查了联系不同物理领域的能力——例如,将牛顿第二定律与运动学结合,或能量守恒与抛体运动结合。评分方案对每个阶段使用正确原理给予方法分,即使前一步出现数值错误同样如此。清晰地标注步骤(步骤1、步骤2…)有助于考官理解你的逻辑。

    F = ma → a → use in v = u + at→ find v

    English: Always check for hidden information – e.g. ‘starts from rest’ means u = 0, ‘smooth surface’ means no friction, ‘light string’ means tension is uniform.

    中文:务必检查隐含信息——例如“从静止开始”意味着 u = 0,“光滑表面”意味着无摩擦,“轻绳”意味着张力处处相等。

    8. Explanation and Justification | 解释与论证

    The extended response questions in June 2022 required a logical sequence of physics principles. A common pitfall was giving a memorised definition without linking it to the context. To score full marks, you must start with the relevant law or concept, then apply it to the specific situation, and finally explain the outcome. Use connectives: ‘This means that…’, ‘Consequently…’, ‘As a result…’.

    2022年6月的长答题要求呈现物理原理的逻辑顺序。常见失误是给出记忆中的定义却没有联系上下文。要获得满分,你必须从相关定律或概念出发,然后将其应用到具体情况,最后解释结果。使用连接词:“这意味着……”“因此……”“结果是……”。

    English: When the mark scheme says ‘allow reverse argument’, it means the opposite direction of reasoning also earns credit. So if you deduce a decrease in pressure by relating p ∝ 1/V, that is fine.

    中文:当评分方案注明“allow reverse argument”(允许反向论证)时,意味着相反的推理方向也能得分。因此,如果你通过关系 p ∝ 1/V 推断出压强降低,那也完全可行。

    9. Avoiding Common Pitfalls | 避免常见失分点

    Examiners’ reports paired with the 2022 mark scheme identify frequent errors: omitting units, writing vector quantities without direction (where required), misreading scale divisions on graphs, and confusing velocity with speed. Another classic mistake is using ½mv² for potential energy instead of mgh. A quick sanity check of your answer against expected magnitudes can catch these slips.

    结合2022年评分方案的考官报告指出常见错误:遗漏单位、在需要时写出矢量却不带方向、读错图像的分度、将速度与速率混淆。另一个典型错误是将势能用 ½mv² 而不是 mgh 表示。将你的答案与预期数量级进行快速常识检验,可以及时发现这些疏漏。

    • English: Watch out for prefixes like ‘μ’ (×10⁻⁶) or ‘M’ (×10⁶) – failing to convert is the biggest single cause of lost marks.

    📚 IGCSE WJEC Physics: Wave-Particle Duality Key Points | IGCSE WJEC 物理:波粒二象性 考点精讲

    Wave-particle duality is one of the most fascinating and counter-intuitive ideas in modern physics. It describes how both light and matter can exhibit wave-like and particle-like properties depending on the situation. In the WJEC IGCSE Physics specification, you are expected to understand the evidence for the wave nature of light (interference and diffraction), the particle nature of light (photoelectric effect), and how electrons also show wave behaviour (electron diffraction). You must also be able to use the de Broglie equation λ = h / mv and the photoelectric equation KEmax = hf – Φ.

    波粒二象性是现代物理学中最迷人、也最反直觉的概念之一。它描述了光和物质如何在不同情境下表现出波动性或粒子性。在 WJEC IGCSE 物理考纲中,你需要理解光具有波动性的证据(干涉和衍射)、粒子性的证据(光电效应),以及电子如何表现波动行为(电子衍射)。你还必须能够使用德布罗意方程 λ = h / mv 和光电方程 KEmax = hf – Φ。

    1. The Historical Debate: Wave or Particle? | 历史争论:波还是粒子?

    For centuries, scientists debated whether light was made of tiny particles or was a wave. Isaac Newton argued for a particle theory, which could explain reflection and straight-line propagation. Christiaan Huygens proposed a wave theory, which could explain refraction and phenomena like Newton’s rings. The wave theory gained acceptance when Thomas Young demonstrated interference of light in 1801, proving that light behaves like waves.

    几个世纪以来,科学家们一直争论光是由微小的粒子组成,还是以波的形式传播。艾萨克·牛顿主张粒子说,能解释光的反射和直线传播;克里斯蒂安·惠更斯则提出波动说,能解释折射和牛顿环等现象。1801年托马斯·杨演示了光的干涉,证明了光像波一样传播,波动理论才获得广泛认可。

    However, the discovery of the photoelectric effect in the late 19th century could not be explained by wave theory alone. This eventually led to the modern concept of wave-particle duality.

    然而,19世纪末发现的光电效应无法用波动理论解释,最终催生了现代波粒二象性概念。

    2. Evidence for Light as a Wave | 光作为波的证据

    The wave nature of light is demonstrated by phenomena such as diffraction and interference. When light passes through a narrow slit or around an obstacle, it spreads out instead of casting sharp shadows — this is diffraction. When light from two coherent sources overlaps, bright and dark fringes appear, as seen in Young’s double-slit experiment. These patterns are only possible if light behaves as a wave with wavelength λ.

    光的波动性通过衍射和干涉等现象得到证实。当光通过窄缝或绕过障碍物时,会扩散开来而不会形成清晰的影子,这就是衍射。两束相干光叠加时会出现明暗相间的条纹,如杨氏双缝实验所示。只有光像波一样具有波长 λ,才会产生这些图样。

    In WJEC IGCSE, you should recall that the spacing between interference fringes increases with longer wavelength or smaller slit separation. The equation λ = ax / D relates wavelength, slit separation, fringe spacing and distance to screen.

    在 WJEC IGCSE 考试中,你应该记住干涉条纹间距随波长增大或缝距减小而增大。公式 λ = ax / D 关联了波长、缝距、条纹间距和屏幕距离。

Mastering its behaviour – from reflection and interference to the photoelectric effect – is essential for top marks. This revision guide distils every key concept into clear, exam-focused explanations, supported by essential equations and real-world applications.

    1. The Nature of Light: Waves and Photons | 光的本质:波动与光子

    Light exhibits a dual nature: it behaves as a transverse electromagnetic wave and also as a stream of particles called photons. The wave model explains interference and diffraction, while the photon model accounts for the photoelectric effect. The electromagnetic spectrum ranges from radio waves to gamma rays, with visible light occupying wavelengths roughly between 400 nm and 700 nm.

    光具有二象性:它既表现为横电磁波,也可视为一束称为光子的粒子流。波动模型能解释干涉和衍射,而光子模型则能说明光电效应。电磁波谱覆盖从无线电波到伽马射线的范围,可见光的波长大致位于 400 纳米到 700 纳米之间。

    In a vacuum, all electromagnetic waves travel at the speed of light c = 3.00 × 10⁸ m s⁻¹. The wave speed, frequency and wavelength are related by c = fλ. For a photon, the energy is E = hf, where h is the Planck constant (6.63 × 10⁻³⁴ J s). This energy is directly proportional to frequency and inversely proportional to wavelength.

    在真空中,所有电磁波均以光速 c = 3.00 × 10⁸ m s⁻¹ 传播。波速、频率和波长满足关系 c = fλ。对光子而言,能量 E = hf,其中 h 为普朗克常量 (6.63 × 10⁻³⁴ J s)。该能量与频率成正比,与波长成反比。

    c = fλ   E = hf

    2. Reflection and Refraction | 反射与折射

    When light strikes a smooth boundary between two media, part of it is reflected and part is transmitted with a change in direction – refraction. The law of reflection states that the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection (θᵢ = θᵣ), measured from the normal.

    当光照射到两种介质的光滑界面时,一部分发生反射,另一部分则透射并改变方向——即折射。反射定律指出,入射角等于反射角 (θᵢ = θᵣ),均从法线量起。

    Refraction is governed by Snell’s law: n₁ sinθ₁ = n₂ sinθ₂, where n is the refractive index. The index of a medium indicates how much the speed of light is reduced: n = c/v. A higher refractive index means light travels more slowly and bends towards the normal when entering from a less dense medium.

    折射由斯涅尔定律支配:n₁ sinθ₁ = n₂ sinθ₂,其中 n 为折射率。介质的折射率表示光速减慢的程度:n = c/v。折射率越高,光传播越慢,当光从光疏介质进入光密介质时会向法线偏折。

    n₁ sinθ₁ = n₂ sinθ₂

    3. Total Internal Reflection | 全内反射

    When light travels from a medium with a higher refractive index to one with a lower index (e.g. from water to air), the refracted ray bends away from the normal. At a certain critical angle θc, the angle of refraction reaches 90°. For any angle of incidence greater than θc, all light is reflected internally – this is total internal reflection (TIR).

    当光从折射率较高的介质射向折射率较低的介质(例如从水到空气),折射光线会偏离法线。在某一临界角 θc 处,折射角达到 90°。当入射角大于 θc 时,所有光都被内表面反射——这就是全内反射 (TIR)。

    The critical angle is derived from Snell’s law with sinθ₂ = 1: sinθc = n₂ / n₁ (where n₁ > n₂). TIR is the working principle behind optical fibres, which guide light along transparent cores with minimal loss, used in telecommunications and endoscopy.

    临界角由斯涅尔定律令 sinθ₂ = 1 导出:sinθc = n₂ / n₁ (其中 n₁ > n₂)。TIR 是光纤工作的原理,光纤使光沿透明纤芯以极低损耗传输,广泛应用于通信和内窥镜。

    sinθc = n₂ / n₁   (for n₁ > n₂)

    4. Interference: Young’s Double-Slit Experiment | 干涉:杨氏双缝实验

    Thomas Young’s classic experiment demonstrates the wave nature of light through interference. Coherent light passing through two narrow slits produces an interference pattern of bright and dark fringes on a screen. Constructive interference occurs when the path difference is an integer multiple of the wavelength, Δ = nλ, while destructive interference occurs when Δ = (n + ½)λ.

    托马斯·杨的经典实验通过干涉展示了光的波动性。相干光通过两道狭缝后在屏幕上产生明暗相间的干涉条纹。当光程差为波长的整数倍时发生相长干涉,Δ = nλ;当光程差为半波长的奇数倍时发生相消干涉,Δ = (n + ½)λ。

    The fringe spacing (Δy) between adjacent bright fringes is given by Δy = λD / d, where λ is the wavelength, D is the distance from slits to screen, and d is the slit separation. This formula is valid for small angles and allows precise determination of wavelength.

    相邻亮纹的间距 Δy 由公式 Δy = λD / d 给出,其中 λ 为波长,D 为双缝到屏幕的距离,d 为双缝间距。该公式在小角度下成立,可用于精确测定波长。

    Δy = λD / d

    5. Diffraction Gratings | 衍射光栅

    A diffraction grating consists of many equally spaced slits, producing sharper and brighter interference maxima compared to a double slit. The condition for principal maxima is d sinθ = nλ, where d is the grating spacing (the reciprocal of the number of lines per metre), n is the order number (n = 0, 1, 2, …), and θ is the angle of diffraction.

    衍射光栅由大量等间距狭缝组成,能产生比双缝更锐利、更明亮的干涉极大。主极大的条件是 d sinθ = nλ,其中 d 为光栅常数(每米刻线数的倒数),n 为级次 (n = 0, 1, 2, …),θ 为衍射角。

    Gratings are routinely used in spectrometers to analyse light from sources. The maximum number of observable orders is limited by sinθ ≤ 1, giving nₘₐₓ ≤ d / λ. The greater the number of slits, the narrower the maxima, improving the instrument’s resolving power.

    光栅常用于光谱仪中分析光源。可观测的最大级次受 sinθ ≤ 1 限制,即 nₘₐₓ ≤ d / λ。狭缝数目越多,极大越窄,仪器分辨率越高。

    d sinθ = nλ

    6. Single-Slit Diffraction | 单缝衍射

    When light passes through a single narrow slit of width a, it spreads out and produces a central bright fringe flanked by progressively weaker secondary maxima. The first minimum on either side of the central maximum occurs at an angle θ satisfying a sinθ = λ. For subsequent minima, a sinθ = nλ, where n = 1, 2, 3, … (excluding n = 0).

    当光通过宽度为 a 的单缝时,会发生扩散并在屏幕形成中央亮纹和两侧逐渐减弱的次级极大。中央极大两侧的第一暗纹满足条件 a sinθ = λ。更高阶暗纹的条件为 a sinθ = nλ,其中 n = 1, 2, 3, …(不含 0)。

    The angular width of the central maximum is 2λ/a radians, indicating that diffraction effects become more pronounced as the slit width approaches the wavelength. This spreading limits the ability to form sharp images and introduces the concept of resolution.

    中央极大的角宽度为 2λ/a 弧度,表明当狭缝宽度接近波长时衍射效应更加显著。这种扩散限制了形成清晰图像的能力,并引入了分辨率的概念。

    a sinθ = nλ   (minima, n = 1, 2, 3, …)

    7. Thin-Film Interference | 薄膜干涉

    A thin film, such as a soap bubble or an oil slick on water, displays colourful patterns due to interference between light reflected from the top surface and light reflected from the bottom surface. The effective path difference depends on film thickness, refractive index, and any phase changes upon reflection.

    薄膜(例如肥皂泡或水面油膜)因上表面与下表面反射光之间的干涉而呈现彩色图样。有效光程差取决于膜厚、折射率以及反射时可能发生的相位变化。

    When light reflects off a medium of higher refractive index, it undergoes a phase change of π (equivalent to a half-wavelength shift). For normal incidence, constructive interference for reflected light occurs when 2nt = (m + ½)λ (with phase reversal on one reflection), while destructive interference occurs when 2nt = mλ. Here t is the film thickness and n is the refractive index of the film.

    光从折射率较高的介质反射时发生 π 相位突变(相当于半波长位移)。垂直入射时,若一次反射有相位反转,反射光相长干涉的条件为 2nt = (m + ½)λ,相消干涉的条件为 2nt = mλ。其中 t 为膜厚,n 为薄膜折射率。

    2nt = mλ   or   2nt = (m + ½)λ

    8. Polarisation | 偏振

    Polarisation provides direct evidence that light is a transverse wave. Unpolarised light has electric field oscillations in all directions perpendicular to the direction of propagation. A polarising filter transmits only the component of the electric field parallel to its transmission axis, reducing intensity by 50% for an ideal polariser.

    偏振为光是一种横波提供了直接证据。非偏振光的电场在垂直于传播方向的所有方向上振荡。偏振片只允许与其透射轴平行的电场分量通过,理想偏振片会使强度减半。

    When a second polariser (analyser) is placed after the first, the transmitted intensity follows Malus’s law: I = I₀ cos²θ, where θ is the angle between the transmission axes. Polarisation by reflection occurs at Brewster’s angle, where the reflected and refracted rays are perpendicular, given by tanθ_B = n₂ / n₁.

    在第一块偏振片后放置第二块偏振片(检偏器)时,透射光强遵循马吕斯定律:I = I₀ cos²θ,其中 θ 为两透射轴之间的夹角。反射偏振发生在布儒斯特角,此时反射光线与折射光线垂直,满足 tanθ_B = n₂ / n₁。

    I = I₀ cos²θ     tanθ_B = n₂ / n₁

    9. The Photoelectric Effect | 光电效应

    The photoelectric effect is the emission of electrons from a metal surface when light of sufficiently high frequency shines on it. Experimental observations – existence of a threshold frequency f₀, instantaneous emission, and independence of maximum kinetic energy from intensity – cannot be explained by the wave model, but are fully accounted for by the photon model.

    光电效应是指当频率足够高的光照射金属表面时,电子从表面逸出的现象。实验观测结果——存在截止频率 f₀、瞬时发射、最大动能与光强无关——均无法用波动模型解释,但光子模型能完美说明。

    Einstein’s photoelectric equation relates the maximum kinetic energy of emitted electrons to the photon energy and the work function φ of the metal: Eₖ max = hf – φ. The work function is the minimum energy required to remove an electron from the surface. The stopping potential Vₛ is given by eVₛ = hf – φ.

    爱因斯坦光电方程将逸出电子的最大动能与光子能量和金属的功函数 φ 联系起来:Eₖ max = hf – φ。功函数是从表面移除一个电子所需的最小能量。截止电压 Vₛ 满足 eVₛ = hf – φ。

    Eₖ max = hf – φ     eVₛ = hf – φ

    10. Wave-Particle Duality and de Broglie Wavelength | 波粒二象性与德布罗意波长

    The principle of wave-particle duality asserts that all particles exhibit both wave and particle properties. Light, previously thought of as a wave, shows particle behaviour in the photoelectric effect; electrons, traditionally considered particles, produce diffraction patterns, confirming their wave nature.

    波粒二象性原理指出,所有粒子都同时表现出波动性和粒子性。原先被视为波的光,在光电效应中展现出粒子行为;而被传统视为粒子的电子,则能产生衍射图样,证实了其波动性。

    De Broglie proposed that any particle with momentum p has an associated wavelength λ = h / p. For an electron accelerated through a potential difference V, the kinetic energy is eV = p²/(2m), giving λ = h / √(2meV). This wavelength predicts the diffraction pattern observed in electron diffraction experiments.

    德布罗意提出,任何动量为 p 的粒子都有一个关联波长 λ = h / p。对于被电势差 V 加速的电子,动能 eV = p²/(2m),可得 λ = h / √(2meV)。这一波长能够预测电子衍射实验中的图样。

    λ = h / p     λ = h / √(2meV)

    11. Resolution and Rayleigh Criterion | 分辨率与瑞利判据

    When light passes through a circular aperture, diffraction produces a central bright spot called the Airy disk surrounded by rings. The Rayleigh criterion states that two point sources are just resolvable when the central maximum of one image coincides with the first minimum of the other. The angular separation for just-resolved points is θ = 1.22λ / D, where D is the aperture diameter.

    当光通过圆形孔径时,衍射会产生称为艾里斑的中央亮斑及外围光环。瑞利判据指出,当一个像的中央极大与另一个像的第一暗纹重合时,两点光源恰可分辨。恰可分辨的角间距为 θ = 1.22λ / D,其中 D 为孔径直径。

    This limit affects the performance of optical instruments such as telescopes and microscopes. Improving resolution can be achieved by using shorter wavelength radiation (e.g. ultraviolet or electron microscopes) or by increasing the lens or mirror aperture.

    这一限制影响着望远镜和显微镜等光学仪器的性能。提高分辨率可以通过使用更短波长的辐射(如紫外光或电子显微镜)或增大透镜/反射镜的孔径来实现。

    θ ≈ 1.22λ / D

    12. Doppler Effect for Light | 光的多普勒效应

    The Doppler effect for light describes the change in observed frequency (and wavelength) when a light source moves relative to an observer. For velocities much smaller than c, the fractional shift is Δλ / λ₀ ≈ v / c, where v is the relative radial velocity (positive for recession, negative for approach). A receding source increases wavelength (redshift), while an approaching source decreases wavelength (blueshift).

    光的多普勒效应描述了光源与观察者相对运动时观测频率(和波长)的变化。当速度远小于光速时,波长相对偏移量为 Δλ / λ₀ ≈ v / c,其中 v 为相对径向速度(远离为正,靠近为负)。远离的光源波长增加(红移),靠近的光源波长减小(蓝移)。

    Astronomers use redshift measurements to determine the recessional velocities of galaxies, providing evidence for the expansion of the universe. In the laboratory, laser Doppler techniques measure tiny frequency shifts to study fluid flow and vibrations.

    天文学家利用红移测量来确定星系的退行速度,为宇宙膨胀提供了证据。在实验室中,激光多普勒技术通过测量微小频移来研究流体和振动。

    Δλ / λ₀ ≈ v / c

Understanding these principles not only unlocks high-mark exam questions but also provides a deep insight into how the universe operates at macroscopic scales. 1. Newton’s Law of Gravitation | 牛顿万有引力定律

    Newton’s law of gravitation states that every point mass attracts every other point mass with a force that is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centres. The magnitude of this force is given by F = Gm₁m₂ / r², where G is the gravitational constant, 6.67 × 10⁻¹¹ N m² kg⁻². This force is always attractive and acts along the line joining the centres of mass.

    牛顿万有引力定律指出:任意两个质点之间都存在相互吸引的力,这个力的大小与两质点的质量乘积成正比,与它们中心之间距离的平方成反比。力的计算公式为 F = Gm₁m₂ / r²,其中 G 为引力常量,等于 6.67 × 10⁻¹¹ N m² kg⁻²。该力始终是吸引力,且沿着两质心连线方向作用。

    F = G m₁ m₂ / r²

    • The force is inversely proportional to r², meaning that doubling the centre-to-centre distance reduces the force to one quarter.
    • 力与 r² 成反比,这意味着两心距离加倍时,引力减小为原来的四分之一。
    • G is an extremely small constant, which explains why we do not feel gravitational attraction between everyday objects.
    • G 是一个非常小的常量,这就解释了为什么日常生活中我们感受不到物体之间的万有引力。
    • The law assumes point masses or spherical bodies with uniform density, where the distance is measured from centre to centre.
    • 这一定律适用于质点或密度均匀的球体,此时距离从球心到球心测量。

    2. Gravitational Field Strength | 引力场强

    Gravitational field strength g at a point is defined as the gravitational force per unit mass experienced by a small test mass placed at that point. It is a vector quantity, with direction towards the centre of the mass causing the field. In a radial field around a point mass M (or a spherical body), the field strength at a distance r from the centre is g = GM / r². On the surface of the Earth, g ≈ 9.81 N kg⁻¹.

    引力场强度 g 定义为放置在该点上的小检验质量每单位质量所受到的引力。它是一个矢量,方向指向产生引力场的质量中心。在点质量 M(或球体)周围的径向场中,距离中心 r 处的场强为 g = GM / r²。在地球表面,g ≈ 9.81 N kg⁻¹。

    g = F / m = GM / r²

    • Field strength is equivalent to the acceleration of free fall for any object in that field, so g is also measured in m s⁻².
    • 场强等同于该场中任何物体自由下落的加速度,因此 g 也可用 m s⁻² 为单位。
    • Inside a solid sphere of uniform density, field strength increases linearly from the centre to the surface; outside, it drops off as 1/r².
    • 在密度均匀的实心球体内,场强从中心到表面线性增加;在球体之外,场强随 1/r² 衰减。

    3. Radial and Uniform Fields | 径向场与均匀场

    Gravitational fields can be represented by field lines. A radial field is found around a point or spherical mass, with field lines pointing radially inward. The spacing of the lines indicates the field strength: lines are closer together where the field is stronger. A uniform field, in contrast, has parallel and equally spaced field lines, meaning constant magnitude and direction. Over small height ranges near the Earth’s surface, the field can be treated as uniform with g = 9.81 N kg⁻¹ vertically downward.

    引力场可以用场线表示。点质量或球体周围形成径向场,场线沿径向向内。场线的疏密表示场强大小:线越密场越强。与此相反,均匀场中的场线平行且等间距,意味着大小和方向处处相同。在地球表面附近小高度范围内,场可视为均匀场,g = 9.81 N kg⁻¹ 方向竖直向下。

    Feature | 特征 Radial field | 径向场 Uniform field | 均匀场
    Field line pattern | 场线形态 Lines diverge from centre | 线从中心向外散开(指向中心) Parallel and equally spaced | 平行且等间距
    Gravitational field strength g | 场强 g Varies with 1/r² | 按 1/r² 变化 Constant | 恒定
    Potential gradient | 势梯度 Changes with distance | 随距离变化 Constant | 恒定(g = –ΔV/Δr)

    4. Gravitational Potential | 引力势

    Gravitational potential V at a point is the work done per unit mass to bring a small test mass from infinity to that point. Infinity is chosen as the zero of potential. Because gravity is attractive, work is done by the field when a mass moves from infinity; thus V is always negative. For a point mass M, the potential at distance r is V = –GM / r. The potential gradient gives the field strength: g = –dV/dr.

    引力势 V 定义为将单位质量的检验质量从无穷远移动到该点所做的功。选取无穷远处为零势点。由于引力是吸引力,质量从无穷远移入时引力场做正功,因此 V 总是负的。对于点质量 M,距离 r 处的势为 V = –GM / r。势的梯度就是场强:g = –dV/dr。

    V = –GM / r

    • On a graph of V against r, the potential becomes less negative (approaches zero) as r increases.
    • 在 V – r 图像上,随着 r 增大,势变得不那么负(趋近于零)。
    • Equipotential surfaces are spherical in a radial field and equally spaced parallel planes in a uniform field; they are always perpendicular to field lines.
    • 径向场中的等势面为球面,均匀场中为等间距的平行平面;等势面始终与场线垂直。

    5. Gravitational Potential Energy | 引力势能

    The gravitational potential energy U of a system of two point masses is the work required to assemble them from infinity to a separation r. Using the definition of potential, U = m V, so for two masses M and m separated by distance r: U = –GMm / r. This energy is negative, signifying that energy must be supplied to separate the masses to infinity. In exam problems, energy changes between orbits are calculated using ΔU = –GMm (1/r₂ – 1/r₁).

    两个质点组成的系统的引力势能 U,是指将它们从无穷远移到相距 r 所做的功。由势的定义可知 U = m V,因此对于相距 r 的质量 M 和 m 有:U = –GMm / r。该能量为负值,表示要使它们完全分开必须从外界提供能量。考试题目中,轨道间的能量变化常用 ΔU = –GMm (1/r₂ – 1/r₁) 进行计算。

    U = –G M m / r

    • When a satellite moves to a higher orbit, its gravitational potential energy increases (becomes less negative), meaning work must be done.
    • 当卫星移动到更高轨道时,引力势能增加(变得不那么负),即外界必须做功。
    • The total mechanical energy of an orbiting body is the sum of kinetic and potential energy, which remains negative for bound orbits.
    • 绕行天体的总机械能是动能与势能之和,对于束缚轨道该总能量总是负值。

    6. Kepler’s Laws of Planetary Motion | 开普勒行星运动定律

    Kepler’s three empirical laws describe planetary motion and can be derived from Newton’s law of gravitation. The first law states that planets move in elliptical orbits with the Sun at one focus (though for AQA we often treat orbits as circular). The second law (law of equal areas) says a line joining a planet to the Sun sweeps out equal areas in equal times, implying faster motion when closer to the Sun. The third law relates the orbital period T to the average orbital radius r: T² ∝ r³. For circular orbits, this becomes T² = (4π²/GM) r³.

    开普勒三大定律是对行星运动的经验总结,它们都可以由牛顿万有引力定律推导。第一定律:行星沿椭圆轨道运动,太阳位于一个焦点上(AQA 考试中常将轨道视为圆形)。第二定律(面积定律):行星与太阳的连线在相等时间内扫过相等面积,说明行星在靠近太阳时运动速度更快。第三定律将轨道周期 T 与平均轨道半径 r 联系起来:T² ∝ r³。对于圆轨道,公式可写成 T² = (4π²/GM) r³。

    T² = (4π² / GM) r³

    • Kepler’s third law provides a method to determine the mass of a central body by measuring the period and radius of an orbiting satellite.
    • 开普勒第三定律提供了通过测量卫星的轨道周期和半径来计算中心天体质量的方法。
    • The constant of proportionality depends only on the central mass, confirming that orbital motion is independent of the satellite’s own mass.
    • 比例常量仅取决于中心天体的质量,这证实了轨道运动与卫星本身质量无关。

    7. Circular Orbits and Satellite Motion | 圆轨道与卫星运动

    For a satellite in a circular orbit, the centripetal force required is provided entirely by the gravitational attraction. Equating gravitational force to centripetal force: GMm / r² = mv² / r, which simplifies to v = √(GM / r). This shows that orbital speed decreases with increasing radius. The period can then be found using T = 2πr / v, leading to the Kepler‑derived relationship. Geostationary satellites have a period equal to the Earth’s rotational period (24 hours).

    对于做圆周运动的卫星,所需向心力完全由万有引力提供。令引力等于向心力:GMm / r² = mv² / r,简化得 v = √(GM / r)。这表明轨道半径越大,线速度越小。再利用 T = 2πr / v 可求出周期,从而得到前述开普勒关系式。地球同步卫星的轨道周期等于地球自转周期(24 小时)。

    v = √(GM / r)

    • Notice that the satellite’s mass m cancels out; orbital characteristics depend only on the central mass and orbital radius.
    • 注意卫星的质量 m 被消去;轨道特征仅取决于中心天体质量和轨道半径。
    • Two satellites at the same orbital radius have the same speed and period regardless of their individual masses.
    • 相同轨道半径上的两颗卫星,无论质量是否相同,速度和周期都相同。

    8. Energy of an Orbiting Satellite | 轨道卫星的能量

    The total mechanical energy E of a satellite in a circular orbit is the sum of its kinetic energy Eₖ = ½mv² and potential energy U = –GMm / r. Substituting v² = GM / r gives Eₖ = GMm / (2r), so the total energy is E = –GMm / (2r). Notice that E = –Eₖ, and the magnitude of the potential energy is twice the kinetic energy. The negative total energy indicates a bound orbit; to escape, enough energy must be supplied to make E ≥ 0.

    圆轨道上卫星的总机械能 E 是其动能 Eₖ = ½mv² 与势能 U = –GMm / r 之和。代入 v² = GM / r 可得 Eₖ = GMm / (2r),因此总能量为 E = –GMm / (2r)。注意 E = –Eₖ,且势能的绝对值是动能的两倍。总能量为负值表示束缚轨道;要使卫星脱离束缚,必须提供足够能量使 E ≥ 0。

    E = –G M m / (2r)

    • The relationship E = ½U is a useful shortcut for multiple-choice questions and verification.
    • 关系式 E = ½U 是选择题中的快捷验证技巧。
    • If a satellite loses energy (e.g. due to atmospheric drag), its orbit radius decreases, but its speed actually increases (since v ∝ 1/√r).
    • 如果卫星因大气阻力损失能量,轨道半径会减小,但速度实际上会增大(因为 v ∝ 1/√r)。

    9. Escape Velocity | 逃逸速度

    Escape velocity is the minimum speed an object must have at the surface (or at a given distance r from a celestial body) to completely escape its gravitational field without further propulsion. By setting the total energy to zero at infinity, ½mv² – GMm / r = 0, we obtain vₑ = √(2GM / r). For Earth, the escape velocity from the surface is about 11.2 km s⁻¹. It does not depend on the mass of the escaping object.

    逃逸速度是指物体在天体表面(或距天体中心 r 处)必须具有的最小速度,使其在不需要额外推力的情况下彻底摆脱引力束缚。令无穷远处总能量为零:½mv² – GMm / r = 0,得 vₑ = √(2GM / r)。对于地球,表面逃逸速度约为 11.2 km s⁻¹。它与逃逸物体的质量无关。

    vₑ = √(2GM / r)

    • Compare escape velocity with circular orbital velocity: vₑ = √2 × v_orbital at the same radius.
    • 比较逃逸速度与同一半径处的圆周轨道速度:vₑ = √2 × v_轨道。
    • To calculate the escape velocity from a planet’s surface, use the planet’s mass and radius.
    • 计算行星表面的逃逸速度时,代入行星的质量和半径即可。

    10. Geostationary and Polar Orbits | 地球同步轨道和极地轨道

    Artificial satellites are placed into different orbits depending on their purpose. A geostationary satellite orbits in the equatorial plane with a period of 24 hours, so it appears stationary relative to the Earth’s surface. Its orbital radius is approximately 42 300 km from the Earth’s centre (about 35 800 km above the surface). Polar orbits pass over the poles, allowing the satellite to scan the entire Earth over time as the planet rotates beneath, making them ideal for weather monitoring and reconnaissance.

    人造卫星根据用途被送入不同的轨道。地球同步轨道卫星在赤道平面内运行,周期为 24 小时,相对于地球表面看起来静止不动。其轨道半径约 42 300 km(距地表约 35 800 km)。极地轨道飞越两极,随着地球在卫星下方自转,卫星可逐渐扫描全球,因此非常适合气象监测和侦察任务。

    Property | 特性 Geostationary | 地球同步 Polar | 极地
    Orbital plane | 轨道平面 Equatorial plane | 赤道面 Inclined / passes over poles | 倾斜于赤道 / 穿越极地
    Period | 周期 24 hours | 24 小时 Typically about 100 minutes | 通常约 100 分钟
    Altitude | 高度 ~35 800 km above surface | 距地面约 35 800 km Low (200–1000 km) | 低轨(200–1000 km)
    Coverage | 覆盖范围 Fixed large area | 固定大区域 Full global coverage over time | 随时间推移实现全球覆盖

    11. Comparing Gravitational and Electric Fields | 引力场与电场的比较

    Gravitational and electric fields share many mathematical similarities, which AQA expects you to recognise. Both obey inverse-square laws for point sources (g = GM / r², E = kQ / r²), and both have potentials that vary with 1/r (V_g = –GM/r, V_e = kQ/r). However, gravity is always attractive, while electric forces can be attractive or repulsive. There is no concept of a negative mass, so gravitational potential is always negative, whereas electric potential can be positive or negative depending on the charge.

    引力场和电场在数学上有诸多相似之处,AQA 要求考生能够识别这些异同。两者都遵循点源的平方反比律(g = GM / r²,E = kQ / r²),它们的势也都随 1/r 变化(V_g = –GM/r,V_e = kQ/r)。然而,引力总是吸引力,而电力可以是吸引力也可以是排斥力。不存在负质量的概念,所以引力势恒为负;而电势可正可负,取决于电荷的正负。

    Aspect | 方面 Gravitational | 引力 Electric | 电力
    Force law | 力定律 F = Gm₁m₂/r² F = kQ₁Q₂/r²
    Field strength | 场强 g = GM / r² E = kQ / r²
    Potential | 势 V = –GM / r (always ≤ 0) V = kQ / r (sign depends on Q)
    Nature of force | 力的性质 Always attractive | 总是吸引 Attractive or repulsive | 吸引或排斥

    12. Common Exam Mistakes and Tips | 常见考试错误与技巧

    Many marks are lost on gravitational field questions through simple avoidable mistakes. One common error is using the radius of a planet when the question gives the altitude above the surface; remember r = R + h where R is the planet’s radius and h is height. Another is forgetting to square the distance in Newton’s law or using an incorrect sign for potential. In energy calculations, always check whether the question asks for work done by the field or work that must be done against the field. Also, ensure you can convert units correctly, particularly between km and m, and between hours and seconds.

    在引力场题目中,很多失分源于可以避免的简单失误。常见错误之一是题目给出了距地面的高度却误用了星球半径;请记住 r = R + h,其中 R 为星球半径,h 为高度。另一个错误是忘记在牛顿定律中对距离平方,或引力势的符号用错。在能量计算中,务必确认题目问的是引力场做的功还是反抗引力场需做的功。还要确保正确转换单位,尤其是千米与米之间、小时与秒之间的转换。

    • Sign errors: gravitational potential and potential energy are negative; using a positive sign can lead to incorrect energy balances.
    • 符号错误:引力势和引力势能均为负值;使用正号会导致能量平衡计算错误。
    • Misreading diagrams: field lines point inward, and equipotential spacing indicates the gradient steepness.
    • 误读示意图:场线指向内,等势面间距反映梯度陡缓。
    • Mix‑ups with equations: do not confuse gravitational force with field strength; force involves two masses, field strength involves only the source mass.
    • 公式混淆:不要混淆引力与场强;引力涉及两个质量,场强只涉及源质量。
    • Missing the factor of 2: in total energy E = –GMm/(2r), students often forget the 1/2, leading to a factor-of-two error.
    • 遗漏因子 2:总能量 E = –GMm/(2r) 中,学生常忘记 1/2,导致结果差两倍。

    📚 A-Level Physics Unit 3 Application Question Techniques from the Jan 2020 Examination Report | 从2020年1月考试报告看A-Level物理单元三应用题技巧

    The January 2020 A-Level Physics Unit 3 examination report provides critical insights into common mistakes and effective strategies for tackling application-based questions. This article distils the key techniques required to master practical skills, data analysis, and evaluation, as emphasised by examiners.

    2020年1月的A-Level物理单元三考试报告为解答应用题型提供了重要的常见错误分析与有效策略。本文提炼了考官强调的关键技巧,帮助考生掌握实验技能、数据分析与评估方法。

    1. Understanding the Experiment’s Aim and Underlying Physics | 理解实验目的与基本物理原理

    Before attempting any application question, carefully read the scenario to identify the independent and dependent variables and the physical relationship being tested. The Jan 2020 report noted that many candidates lost marks by misidentifying these variables or by failing to link the experiment to a standard equation.

    在解答任何应用题前,应仔细阅读情境,确定自变量、因变量以及所要验证的物理关系。2020年1月的报告指出,许多考生因错误识别这些变量或未能将实验与标准方程联系起来而失分。

    For instance, in an experiment to determine the resistivity of a wire, students should relate the measured quantities (voltage V, current I, length L, diameter d) to the equation R = ρL/A, where A = πd²/4. Understanding this allows you to plan which graph to plot, such as R against L.

    例如,在测量导线电阻率的实验中,学生应将测量量(电压V、电流I、长度L、直径d)与公式R = ρL/A 联系起来,其中A = πd²/4。理解了这一点,就能计划绘制何种图线,如R与L的关系图。

    2. Instrument Reading and Uncertainties | 仪器读数与不确定度

    Always record readings to the precision of the instrument. For analogue meters, estimate to half of the smallest scale division (e.g., ±0.5 mm on a metre rule). For digital instruments, the reading uncertainty is usually ±1 in the last displayed digit.

    始终按照仪器的精度记录读数。对于模拟仪表,应估读到最小刻度的二分之一(例如,米尺为±0.5 mm);对于数字仪器,读数不确定度通常为最后一位数字的±1。

    The exam report highlighted that many candidates omitted absolute uncertainties when stating single measurements, and they often confused absolute uncertainty with percentage uncertainty. When calculating derived quantities, propagate uncertainties correctly: for sums and differences, add absolute uncertainties; for products and quotients, add percentage uncertainties.

    考试报告强调,许多考生在给出单次测量值时忽略了绝对不确定度,并且经常混淆绝对不确定度与百分不确定度。在计算导出量时,应正确传递不确定度:加减运算时相加绝对不确定度,乘除运算时相加百分不确定度。

    3. Designing a Suitable Results Table | 设计合适的记录表格

    A clear table must include columns for all measured and calculated quantities with appropriate headings and units. Use SI units or standard prefixes (e.g., cm, mA) but ensure consistency. The Jan 2020 report gave credit for tables that had repeated readings and a column for the mean value.

    清晰的表格必须包含所有测量量和计算量的列,配以合适的表头和单位。使用国际单位制或标准词头(如cm、mA),但需保持一致。2020年1月的报告对包含重复读数和平均值列的表格给予了加分。

    Do not forget to record the precision of each instrument in the column header, for example ‘Length L / cm (±0.1 cm)’. Many scripts lost marks because the units were placed in the body of the table rather than in the header.

    别忘了在列表头中记录每个仪器的精度,例如“长度L / cm (±0.1 cm)”。许多答卷因将单位填写在表格主体而非表头而失分。

    4. Plotting Graphs Correctly | 正确绘制图表

    Use a sharp pencil and plot data points with small crosses (×) or encircled dots. Choose axis scales that use at least half the graph grid and avoid awkward multiples like 3, 7, or 9. The examiner report stressed that many candidates lost marks for compressing the scale, making subsequent gradient calculations inaccurate.

    使用削尖的铅笔,用小叉号(×)或带圈的点标绘数据点。坐标轴比例应至少占据图网格的一半,并避免使用3、7、9等不便的比例倍数。主考报告强调,许多考生因压缩比例而导致后续梯度计算不准确而失分。

    Label both axes with the quantity and unit in the format ‘Quantity / unit’. Clearly indicate the scale with marked numerical values at regular intervals. A common mistake seen in the Jan 2020 scripts was omitting the units on the axis labels or writing them incorrectly, e.g., ‘V’ instead of ‘V / V’ or ‘Voltage (V)’.

    两轴均应以“物理量 / 单位”的格式标注量和单位。用等间隔的数值清晰地标示刻度。2020年1月答卷中常见的一个错误是轴标签缺少单位或写错,例如仅写“V”而非“V / V”或“Voltage (V)”。

    5. Drawing Lines of Best Fit and Handling Anomalies | 绘制最佳拟合线及处理异常值

    A line of best fit should have a roughly equal number of points on either side, passing through the centroid if possible. It does not have to pass through the origin unless the physical relationship dictates it. Anomalous points, which deviate significantly from the trend, should be circled and ignored when drawing the line.

    最佳拟合线应使两侧数据点数量大致相等,若可能应穿过中心点。除非物理关系要求,否则不必通过原点。对于明显偏离趋势的异常点,应画圈标记,并在绘制直线时将其忽略。

    The Jan 2020 report revealed that many students forced the best-fit line through the origin without justification or included anomalous points, leading to incorrect gradients. Always examine your plotted points; if a point is due to a clear mistake (e.g., misreading an instrument), it can be excluded, but you must state why.

    2020年1月的报告显示,许多学生没有依据地将最佳拟合线强行通过原点,或将异常点包含在内,导致梯度错误。务必审视所绘点;如果某点系明显失误所致(例如读错仪器),可将其排除,但必须说明理由。

    6. Calculating Gradient and Intercept | 计算梯度与截距

    To find the gradient, select two points on the line of best fit that are as far apart as possible. Read their coordinates to the precision of the graph grid. Show the triangle used and express the gradient with correct units. The formula is m = (y₂ – y₁) / (x₂ – x₁).

    计算梯度时,在最佳拟合线上选取相隔尽可能远的两个点,以图网格的精度读取其坐标。标示所用的三角形,并给出梯度及其正确单位。公式为 m = (y₂ – y₁) / (x₂ – x₁)。

    For the intercept, read the value where the line cuts the y-axis. If the graph is plotted as per a linearised equation, relate the gradient and intercept to physical constants. According to the Jan 2020 report, errors occurred when students read off points from the data table instead of from the line of best fit.

    截距即直线与y轴交点的值。若图形是根据线性化方程绘制的,应将梯度和截距与物理常数关联。根据2020年1月的报告,学生直接从数据表中读取点而非从最佳拟合线上读取,是常见的错误。

This revision guide distills the key exam points, explains them clearly, and provides paired Chinese translations to support bilingual learners. Whether you’re aiming for a grade 9 or simply want to master the essentials, this article will help you understand and remember the crucial concepts.

    1. The Structure of the Atom | 原子结构

    Atoms consist of a tiny, positively charged nucleus surrounded by electrons arranged in energy levels. The nucleus contains protons and neutrons, collectively called nucleons. Protons carry a positive charge, neutrons are neutral, and electrons carry a negative charge. Most of the atom’s mass is concentrated in the nucleus, yet the nucleus occupies only a very small fraction of the atom’s volume. In a neutral atom, the number of electrons equals the number of protons.

    The atomic number (Z) is the number of protons and determines the element. The mass number (A) is the total number of protons and neutrons. An atom is represented in nuclide notation: ᵃₓX, where X is the chemical symbol. For example, carbon-12 is written as ¹²₆C.

    原子序数(Z)是质子数,决定元素种类。质量数(A)是质子与中子总数。原子用核素符号表示:ᵃₓX,X为元素符号,例如碳-12写作¹²₆C。

    2. Isotopes and Nuclear Stability | 同位素与核稳定性

    Isotopes are atoms of the same element with the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons. They have identical chemical properties because the electron arrangement is the same, but their physical properties, such as mass and stability, may differ. For example, carbon-12 (¹²₆C) has 6 neutrons, while carbon-14 (¹⁴₆C) has 8 neutrons. Both have 6 protons and behave chemically like carbon, but carbon-14 is radioactive.

    Nuclear stability depends on the neutron-to-proton ratio. Light stable nuclei have roughly equal numbers of protons and neutrons. Heavier nuclei require more neutrons than protons to remain stable because the strong nuclear force must counteract the electrostatic repulsion between protons. If the balance is off, the nucleus becomes unstable and will eventually decay.

    3. Radioactive Decay and Activity | 放射性衰变与活度

    Radioactive decay is a random and spontaneous process in which an unstable nucleus emits radiation to become more stable. You cannot predict exactly when a particular nucleus will decay, but you can describe the behaviour of a large number of nuclei statistically. The activity of a radioactive sample is the number of decays per second, measured in becquerels (Bq), where 1 Bq = 1 decay per second. Activity decreases over time as the number of undecayed nuclei drops.

    Count rate is the number of counts detected per second by a Geiger-Müller tube or similar detector. It is proportional to the activity, but always lower due to background radiation and detector efficiency. Background radiation must be subtracted to find the corrected count rate.

    计数率是盖革-米勒管等探测器每秒检测到的计数。它与活度成正比,但总是偏小,因为存在本底辐射和探测器效率。必须扣除本底辐射才能得到修正计数率。

    4. Types of Nuclear Radiation | 核辐射的类型

    There are three main types of nuclear radiation: alpha (α), beta (β), and gamma (γ). Alpha particles are helium nuclei (⁴₂He), consisting of 2 protons and 2 neutrons. They are relatively heavy, highly ionising, and have a short range in air (a few centimetres). They can be stopped by a sheet of paper or skin. Beta particles are fast-moving electrons (⁰₋₁e) emitted when a neutron turns into a proton. They are moderately ionising, have a range of about a metre in air, and are stopped by a few millimetres of aluminium. Gamma rays are electromagnetic waves of very high frequency and energy. They are weakly ionising, have an infinite range in vacuum, and require thick lead or concrete to reduce their intensity significantly.

    Nuclear equations must balance mass numbers and atomic numbers on both sides. For alpha decay, mass number decreases by 4 and atomic number by 2. For beta decay, mass number stays the same, but atomic number increases by 1. Gamma emission often accompanies alpha or beta decay and does not change the mass or atomic number.

    核反应方程必须满足质量数和原子序数两边平衡。α衰变时,质量数减4,原子序数减2。β衰变时,质量数不变,原子序数加1。γ辐射常伴随α或β衰变,不改变质量数和原子序数。

    5. Half-Life: Definition and Calculations | 半衰期:定义与计算

    Half-life is the time taken for the number of radioactive nuclei in a sample to halve, or equivalently for the activity to halve. It is a constant for a given radioactive isotope and is unaffected by physical or chemical conditions. The concept helps scientists predict how long a radioactive source will remain hazardous and enables radiometric dating.

    半衰期是样品中放射性原子核数目减半(或活度减半)所需的时间。对于给定的放射性同位素,半衰期是常数,不受物理或化学条件影响。这一概念帮助科学家预测放射源的危险持续时长,也用于放射性测年。

    If you know the initial activity or count rate and the half-life, you can calculate how much remains after a given number of half-lives. After n half-lives, the remaining fraction is (½)ⁿ. For example, after 3 half-lives, only ⅛ of the original nuclei remain. Graphs of activity against time show an exponential decay curve, and the half-life can be determined by reading the time taken for the activity to drop by half.

    6. Background Radiation and Safety | 本底辐射与安全

    Background radiation is the low-level radiation that is always present in the environment. It comes from natural sources such as cosmic rays from space, rocks (especially granite that contains uranium and thorium), food (e.g., bananas contain potassium-40), and radon gas. Human activities, such as medical X-rays and nuclear power, also contribute a small amount. In the UK, the average annual background dose is about 2.5 mSv.

    To reduce exposure to radiation, follow the principles of distance, shielding, and time. Keep as far away from the source as possible, use appropriate shielding (e.g., lead for gamma, aluminium for beta), and limit the time spent near the source. Handle radioactive sources with tongs and never point them toward people. Teachers and technicians must follow strict school safety protocols.

    减少辐射暴露应遵循距离、屏蔽和时间三原则:尽量远离放射源、使用适当屏蔽(如γ用铅、β用铝)、限制接近时间。用钳子操控放射源,绝不指向人。教师和技术员须遵守严格的学校安全规程。

    7. Nuclear Fission | 核裂变

    Nuclear fission is the splitting of a large, unstable nucleus (typically uranium-235 or plutonium-239) into two smaller daughter nuclei, along with two or three neutrons and a large release of energy. Fission can occur spontaneously, but in nuclear reactors it is induced by the absorption of a slow-moving (thermal) neutron. The energy released comes from the conversion of a tiny amount of mass into energy, as described by Einstein’s equation:

    E = m c²

    核裂变是一个大而不稳定的核(通常是铀-235或钚-239)分裂成两个较小的子核,同时放出两到三个中子并释放大量能量。裂变可自发进行,但在核反应堆中通过吸收一个慢中子引发。释放的能量来自极少量质量转化为能量,正如爱因斯坦质能方程所示:E = m c²。

    Chain reactions occur when the neutrons released from one fission event go on to cause further fissions. In a nuclear reactor, this chain reaction is carefully controlled using control rods (made of boron or cadmium) that absorb excess neutrons. A moderator, usually water or graphite, slows down the neutrons so they can be captured more effectively. The heat produced is used to generate steam that drives turbines to produce electricity.

    当一个裂变事件释放的中子引发进一步裂变时,就发生链式反应。在核反应堆中,链式反应通过控制棒(由硼或镉制成)吸收多余中子来小心控制。慢化剂(通常为水或石墨)使中子减速,以便更有效地被俘获。产生的热量用于产生蒸汽,驱动涡轮发电。

    8. Nuclear Fusion | 核聚变

    Nuclear fusion is the joining of two light nuclei (typically isotopes of hydrogen, such as deuterium and tritium) to form a heavier nucleus, releasing a huge amount of energy. This process powers the Sun and other stars. For fusion to occur, the nuclei must overcome electrostatic repulsion, requiring extremely high temperatures (millions of degrees Celsius) and pressures. On Earth, achieving controlled fusion is a major challenge because we must confine the plasma long enough for the reaction to become self-sustaining.

    核聚变是两个轻核(通常是氢的同位素氘和氚)结合成较重核,释放巨大能量。该过程为太阳和其他恒星提供能量。聚变发生需要原子核克服静电斥力,因此必须达到极高温度(数百万摄氏度)和压强。在地球上实现受控聚变是巨大挑战,必须将等离子体约束足够长时间,使反应自持。

    Fusion reactors have not yet generated more energy than they consume, but international projects like ITER aim to make fusion a practical energy source. Fusion has several advantages over fission: it produces no long-lived radioactive waste, the fuel (deuterium from seawater and lithium) is plentiful, and there is no risk of meltdown.

    聚变反应堆目前尚未实现能量净产出,但国际项目如ITER旨在使聚变成为实用能源。聚变相较裂变有若干优势:不产生长寿命放射性废物,燃料(海水中氘和锂)储量丰富,且无熔毁风险。

    9. Half-Life Applications and Decay Curves | 半衰期应用与衰变曲线

    Half-life has many practical uses. Carbon-14 dating determines the age of archaeological and geological samples up to about 50,000 years old. Medical tracers use short half-life gamma emitters like technetium-99m (half-life 6 hours) to image organs without causing significant radiation damage. Industrial applications include thickness monitoring of paper or metal foil using beta sources with appropriate half-lives.

    半衰期有诸多实际应用。碳-14测年可测定约5万年以内考古和地质样本的年龄。医学示踪剂使用半衰期短的γ放射源,如锝-99m(半衰期6小时),对器官成像而不造成显著辐射伤害。工业应用包括利用合适半衰期的β源监测纸张或金属箔的厚度。

    Decay curves show how activity or the number of undecayed nuclei decreases over time. The curve is asymptotic, never quite reaching zero. To find half-life from a graph, identify the initial activity, then determine the time when the activity has halved. Repeat this for several half-lives to check if the half-life is constant, and use the average.

    衰变曲线显示活度或未衰变核数随时间下降的规律。曲线渐近,永不真正降至零。从图中求半衰期时,先确定初始活度,再找出活度减半的时间。重复几个半衰期验证半衰期是否恒定,再取平均值。

    10. Contamination vs. Irradiation | 放射性污染与辐照的区别

    It is crucial in exams to distinguish between contamination and irradiation. Contamination occurs when radioactive material gets onto or inside an object or person. For example, if a radioactive liquid is spilled on your skin, you become contaminated and will continue to be exposed to radiation until the material is removed. Irradiation happens when you are exposed to radiation from a source that is not inside or on you. You receive a dose of radiation, but you do not become radioactive yourself. A medical X-ray irradiates you, but does not contaminate you.

    考试中必须区分污染和辐照。污染是放射性物质附着或进入物体或人体。例如放射性液体溅到皮肤上,你就被污染,会持续受照直到清除。辐照是暴露于来自体外放射源的辐射,你接受一定剂量,但自己不会变得具有放射性。医用X光使你受辐照,但不会污染你。

    This distinction affects precautions. To prevent contamination, use sealed sources, wear protective clothing, and never eat or drink near radioactive materials. To reduce irradiation, use shielding, distance, and minimise time. Understanding the difference also helps assess risks correctly in scenarios like nuclear accidents.

    这一区别影响防护措施。防污染应使用密封源、穿戴防护服、不在放射性物质附近饮食。减少辐照则依靠屏蔽、距离和缩短时间。理解差异也有助于在核事故等情境中正确评估风险。

    11. Nuclear Equations and Decay Series | 核反应方程与衰变链

    You must be able to write and balance nuclear equations for alpha and beta decay. For example, the alpha decay of radon-222:

    ²²²₈₆Rn → ²¹⁸₈₄Po + ⁴₂He

    For beta decay, carbon-14 decays to nitrogen-14:

    ¹⁴₆C → ¹⁴₇N + ⁰₋₁e

    Sometimes beta decay is followed by the emission of an antineutrino, but this is not required for GCSE. Gamma decay does not alter the mass or atomic number; it just removes excess energy, so it is often omitted from the equation or indicated by a gamma symbol.

    必须能书写并配平α和β衰变的核方程。例如氡-222的α衰变:²²²₈₆Rn → ²¹⁸₈₄Po + ⁴₂He。β衰变如碳-14衰变为氮-14:¹⁴₆C → ¹⁴₇N + ⁰₋₁e。有时β衰变后放出反中微子,但GCSE不作要求。γ衰变不改变质量数和原子序数,仅带走多余能量,方程中常省略或用γ符号表示。

    Some radioactive nuclei undergo a series of decays, called a decay series, until a stable isotope is formed. Uranium-238, for instance, undergoes 14 steps (both alpha and beta decays) to become stable lead-206. You may be asked to identify the daughter nuclei in a series if given the decay steps.

    某些放射性核经历一系列衰变,称为衰变链,最终生成稳定同位素。例如铀-238经过14步(α和β衰变)成为稳定铅-206。题目可能要求根据衰变步骤推断子核。

    12. Exam Tips and Common Misconceptions | 考试技巧与常见误区

    Students often confuse mass number and atomic number. Remember: mass number (top) = protons + neutrons; atomic number (bottom) = protons. A common mistake is to think that gamma decay changes the element; it does not. Also, be clear that radioactive decay is random — you cannot say a specific atom will decay exactly after one half-life. The half-life is a statistical average.

    学生常混淆质量数和原子序数。记住:质量数(上标)=质子+中子,原子序数(下标)=质子。另一个常见误区是以为γ衰变会改变元素,事实上不会。还要清楚放射性衰变是随机的——不能说某个特定原子正好在一个半衰期后衰变,半衰期是统计平均值。

    When describing a graph of decay, avoid saying the line ‘reaches zero’. Use correct phrasing: ‘The activity approaches zero asymptotically.’ For written answers, use precise scientific language: ‘ionising’, ‘penetrating’, ‘unstable’, ‘random’, ‘spontaneous’. In questions comparing risks, always relate to half-life and type of radiation. Finally, practise writing nuclear equations until you can confidently balance both mass and atomic numbers.

    描述衰变图时,避免说曲线“降到零”。应准确表述:“活度渐近趋向零。”书面作答要使用精确的科学术语:ionising(电离)、penetrating(穿透)、unstable(不稳定)、random(随机)、spontaneous(自发)。比较风险问题时,务必联系半衰期和辐射类型。最后,多练习核方程书写,做到能自信配平质量数和原子序数。

    力与运动是经典力学的核心,也是 AQA A-Level 物理考试大纲的基础。扎实掌握运动学、牛顿定律、动量、能量、力矩和圆周运动等知识,是应对融合理论与实际问题的考题的关键。本复习指南为你梳理核心概念,提供中英文对照讲解,帮助理清思路、加深理解。

    1. Scalars and Vectors | 标量与矢量

    A scalar quantity has magnitude only, while a vector quantity has both magnitude and direction. Common scalars include distance, speed, mass, and energy. Typical vectors are displacement, velocity, acceleration, force, and momentum. Understanding this distinction is the first step to correctly analysing any mechanics problem.

    标量仅有大小,而矢量既有大小又有方向。常见的标量有距离、速率、质量和能量;典型矢量包括位移、速度、加速度、力和动量。分清两者的区别是正确分析力学问题的第一步。

    Vector addition can be performed using the tip-to-tail method or by resolving into perpendicular components. For a force F at angle θ to the horizontal, the components are Fₓ = F cosθ and Fᵧ = F sinθ. The magnitude of the resultant is √(Fₓ² + Fᵧ²) and its direction θ = tan⁻¹(Fᵧ / Fₓ).

    矢量相加可用三角形法则(首尾相接)或正交分解法进行。若力 F 与水平方向成 θ 角,其分量为 Fₓ = F cosθ,Fᵧ = F sinθ。合力大小为 √(Fₓ² + Fᵧ²),方向角 θ = tan⁻¹(Fᵧ / Fₓ)。

    Resolving a vector: Fₓ = F cosθ , Fᵧ = F sinθ

    Quantity Scalar Vector
    Distance / Displacement Distance Displacement
    Speed / Velocity Speed Velocity
    Mass / Weight Mass Weight (a force)
    Energy / Force All forms of energy Force, momentum

    2. Kinematics Equations (SUVAT) | 运动学方程(匀加速)

    For motion in a straight line with constant acceleration, the four SUVAT equations link displacement s, initial velocity u, final velocity v, acceleration a, and time t. These are only valid when acceleration is uniform. Remember to assign a consistent sign convention, usually taking the direction of initial motion as positive.

    在匀加速直线运动中,四个 SUVAT 方程将位移 s、初速度 u、末速度 v、加速度 a 和时间 t 联系起来。这些方程仅适用于加速度恒定。务必设定一致的符号规则,通常以初速度方向为正。

    v = u + a t

    s = u t + ½ a t²

    v² = u² + 2 a s

    s = ½ (u + v) t

    It is crucial to identify which three quantities are known and which one is to be found. For example, to find the braking distance when a car stops, we know u, v=0 and a (negative), then v² = u² + 2as gives s = –u²/(2a).

    关键是要判断已知哪三个量、求哪一个量。例如,求汽车刹车距离时已知 u,末速 v=0,加速度 a(负值),则由 v² = u² + 2as 可得 s = –u²/(2a)。

    3. Newton’s Laws of Motion | 牛顿运动定律

    Newton’s first law states that an object remains at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by a resultant force. This introduces the concept of inertia. The second law quantifies the relationship: resultant force = mass × acceleration (Fₙₑₜ = m a). The third law states that if body A exerts a force on body B, body B exerts an equal and opposite force on body A; these forces act on different bodies.

    牛顿第一定律指出,除非受到合外力的作用,物体将保持静止或匀速直线运动状态,这引入了惯性的概念。第二定律定量描述了力、质量和加速度的关系:合外力 = 质量 × 加速度(Fₙₑₜ = m a)。第三定律指出,若物体 A 对物体 B 施加一个力,则 B 同时对 A 施加一个大小相等、方向相反的力;这两个力作用在不同物体上。

    Weight is the gravitational force on a mass: W = m g (g ≈ 9.81 N kg⁻¹ on Earth). In free-body diagrams, weight acts from the centre of mass, while normal contact force acts perpendicular to the surfaces in contact. Tension in a light inextensible string is uniform throughout its length, assuming the string’s mass is negligible.

    重力是作用在质量上的引力:W = m g(地面上 g ≈ 9.81 N kg⁻¹)。在受力图中,重力作用在质心,而法向接触力垂直于接触面。轻质且不可伸长的绳子中的张力沿绳处处相等(假设绳子质量可忽略)。

    4. Free-Body Diagrams and Equilibrium | 受力分析与平衡

    A free-body diagram shows all the forces acting on a single object, isolated from its surroundings. Use arrows drawn to scale, labeling each force clearly. For an object in equilibrium, the vector sum of forces is zero (ΣF = 0) and the sum of moments about any point is zero.

    受力分析图显示作用在单个物体上的所有力,并将物体从环境中隔离出来。用带比例的箭头表示力,并清晰标注。物体处于平衡状态时,合力为零(ΣF = 0),且对任意点的合力矩为零。

    Equilibrium conditions: Σ Fₓ = 0, Σ Fᵧ = 0, Σ M = 0

    When resolving forces on an inclined plane, it is usually best to tilt the coordinate axes so that one axis is parallel to the slope. The weight component down the slope is mg sinθ and the component normal to the slope is mg cosθ.

    分析斜面上的力时,通常将坐标轴旋转,使一轴平行于斜面。重力沿斜面的分量为 mg sinθ,垂直于斜面的分量为 mg cosθ。

    5. Friction and Drag Forces | 摩擦力与阻力

    Friction is a contact force that opposes relative motion. The maximum static friction is Fₘₐₓ = μₛ R, where μₛ is the coefficient of static friction and R is the normal reaction. Kinetic (dynamic) friction is often slightly lower: F = μₖ R. Friction acts parallel to the surfaces in contact.

    摩擦力是阻碍相对运动的接触力。最大静摩擦力为 Fₘₐₓ = μₛ R,其中 μₛ 为静摩擦系数,R 为法向反作用力。动摩擦力通常略小:F = μₖ R。摩擦力方向平行于接触面。

    Drag forces, such as air resistance, increase with speed. For an object falling through a fluid, terminal velocity is reached when the drag equals the weight, resulting in zero resultant force and constant speed. For a sphere in a viscous fluid, Stokes’ law applies at low speeds: F = 6π η r v, where η is viscosity and r the radius.

    阻力(如空气阻力)随速度增加而增大。物体在流体中下落时,当阻力等于重力时达到终速,合外力为零,速度恒定。对于在粘性流体中的球体,低速时适用斯托克斯定律:F = 6π η r v,η 为粘度,r 为半径。

    6. Moments, Couples and Torque | 力矩、力偶与扭矩

    The moment of a force about a point is the product of the force and the perpendicular distance from the point to the line of action of the force: M = F d. The principle of moments states that for a body in rotational equilibrium, the sum of clockwise moments equals the sum of anticlockwise moments about any pivot.

    力对某点的力矩等于力与力臂(该点到力作用线的垂直距离)的乘积:M = F d。力矩原理指出,物体处于转动平衡时,对任意支点,顺时针力矩之和等于逆时针力矩之和。

    A couple consists of two equal, opposite, parallel forces that produce rotation without translation. The torque (moment of a couple) is the force multiplied by the perpendicular separation between the forces: Torque = F × d. Couples are important in electric motors and turning a steering wheel.

    力偶由一对大小相等、方向相反、平行但不共线的力组成,它产生转动而不产生平动。力偶矩(转矩)等于力乘上两力作用线间的垂直距离:扭矩 = F × d。力偶在电动机和方向盘转动中至关重要。

    7. Linear Momentum and Impulse | 线动量与冲量

    Linear momentum p is the product of an object’s mass and its velocity: p = m v. It is a vector quantity measured in kg m s⁻¹ or N s. Momentum helps quantify how difficult it is to stop a moving object.

    线动量 p 是物体质量与速度的乘积:p = m v。它是矢量,单位为 kg m s⁻¹ 或 N s。动量能定量地反映使运动物体停止的难易程度。

    Impulse J is the product of the average force and the time for which it acts: J = F Δt. Since force is the rate of change of momentum (Newton’s second law in momentum form), impulse equals the change in momentum: J = Δp = m v – m u. The area under a force–time graph gives the impulse delivered.

    冲量 J 是平均力与作用时间的乘积:J = F Δt。由于力等于动量变化率(动量形式的牛顿第二定律),冲量等于动量的变化:J = Δp = m v – m u。力-时间图下方的面积即代表冲量。

    F = Δp / Δt (Newton’s second law, general form)

    8. Conservation of Momentum and Collisions | 动量守恒与碰撞

    In any closed system, total momentum is conserved provided no external resultant force acts. This principle is essential for analysing collisions and explosions. For two objects before and after a collision: m₁ u₁ + m₂ u₂ = m₁ v₁ + m₂ v₂.

    在不受外部合外力的封闭系统内,总动量守恒。此原理是分析碰撞和爆炸的基础。对于两个物体的碰撞:m₁ u₁ + m₂ u₂ = m₁ v₁ + m₂ v₂。

    Collisions are classified as elastic (kinetic energy conserved) or inelastic (kinetic energy not conserved, often converted to heat or sound). In a perfectly inelastic collision, the objects stick together and move with a common final velocity. Explosions are the reverse: objects fly apart while total momentum remains zero initially.

    碰撞分为弹性碰撞(动能守恒)和非弹性碰撞(动能不守恒,常转化为热或声能)。在完全非弹性碰撞中,物体粘在一起以相同速度运动。爆炸则是相反的过程:物体飞散,但初始总动量保持为零。

    For two-dimensional collisions, resolve momentum into perpendicular directions and apply conservation independently in each direction. This method is very common in snooker ball or vehicle collision problems on AQA papers.

    对于二维碰撞,可将动量分解到两个垂直方向,并分别应用动量守恒。在 AQA 试卷中,台球碰撞或车辆碰撞问题常需使用这一方法。

    9. Work, Energy and Power | 功、能量与功率

    Work is done when a force moves its point of application in the direction of the force. Work = F s cosθ, where θ is the angle between force and displacement. If the force is perpendicular to displacement, no work is done. Energy is the capacity to do work; both are measured in joules (J).

    当力使其作用点沿力的方向发生位移时,力就做了功。功 = F s cosθ,θ 为力与位移的夹角。若力与位移垂直,则不做功。能量是做功的能力,两者单位均为焦耳(J)。

    Kinetic energy Eₖ = ½ m v² and gravitational potential energy Eₚ = m g h (near Earth’s surface). The work–energy theorem links net work to change in kinetic energy: Wₙₑₜ = ΔEₖ. For conservative forces, mechanical energy (Eₖ + Eₚ) is conserved.

    动能 Eₖ = ½ m v²,重力势能 Eₚ = m g h(近地面)。功能定理将总功与动能变化联系起来:Wₙₑₜ = ΔEₖ。对于保守力,机械能(Eₖ + Eₚ)守恒。

    Power is the rate of doing work or transferring energy: P = W / t. For a constant force moving at constant speed, power can also be written as P = F v. The unit watt (W) is equivalent to J s⁻¹.

    功率是做功或传递能量的速率:P = W / t。对于以恒定速度运动的恒力,功率也可写为 P = F v。功率的单位是瓦特(W),相当于 J s⁻¹。

    10. Conservation of Energy and Efficiency | 能量守恒与效率

    Energy can be transferred between different stores (kinetic, potential, thermal, chemical, nuclear, etc.) but cannot be created or destroyed. The total energy of a closed system remains constant. In real systems, work done against dissipative forces like friction converts mechanical energy into internal (thermal) energy, raising temperature.

    能量可以在不同储备(动能、势能、热能、化学能、核能等)之间传递,但不会凭空产生或消失。封闭系统的总能量保持不变。在实际系统中,克服摩擦力等耗散力做功会把机械能转化为内能(热能),导致温度升高。

    Efficiency is defined as useful output energy (or power) divided by total input energy (or power). Efficiency = (useful output / total input) × 100%. No real machine is 100% efficient because of energy dissipated to the surroundings. Sankey diagrams are often used to represent energy transfers and highlight wasted energy.

    效率定义为有用输出能量(或功率)与总输入能量(或功率)之比。效率 =(有用输出 / 总输入)× 100%。由于总有能量耗散到环境中,任何真实机器的效率都不可能达到 100%。桑基图常用于表示能量传递过程并突出浪费的能量。

    Efficiency = useful output energy / total input energy

    In mechanics problems, invoking energy conservation can often provide a simpler solution than using force and acceleration, especially when changes in height or speed are given. Just be careful to account for work done against friction or air resistance when the pendulum or roller coaster is not ideal.

    在力学问题中,尤其是涉及高度或速度变化时,运用能量守恒往往比使用力和加速度更方便求解。但要注意,如果摆或过山车等系统中存在摩擦或空气阻力,必须计入克服耗散力所做的功。

    11. Circular Motion | 圆周运动

    An object moving in a circular path at constant speed experiences a centripetal acceleration directed towards the centre of the circle. This acceleration arises from a centripetal force, which is not a new type of force but the resultant force towards the centre (e.g., tension, friction, or gravitational attraction).

    物体沿圆周做匀速运动时,受到指向圆心的向心加速度。该加速度由向心力产生,向心力并非新型力,而是指向圆心的合力(如张力、摩擦力或万有引力)。

    The magnitude of centripetal acceleration is a = v² / r = ω² r, where v is linear speed, ω is angular speed (rad s⁻¹), and r is the radius. The centripetal force is F = m v² / r = m ω² r. The period T = 2π / ω = 2π r / v. At any instant, velocity is tangential; acceleration is radial (centripetal) for uniform circular motion.

    向心加速度大小为 a = v² / r = ω² r,其中 v 为线速率,ω 为角速率(rad s⁻¹),r 为半径。向心力 F = m v² / r = m ω² r。周期 T = 2π / ω = 2π r / v。匀速圆周运动中,速度始终沿切线方向,加速度沿径向指向圆心。

    Centripetal force: F = m v² / r = m ω² r

    Common AQA applications include a car rounding a bend (friction provides centripetal force), a mass on a string whirled in a horizontal or vertical circle (tension varies), and satellites in orbit (gravity provides the centripetal force). For vertical circles, you must consider energy changes and the minimum speed at the top to maintain circular motion (v = √(g r) for a particle on a string).

    AQA 常见应用包括汽车转弯(摩擦力提供向心力)、绳端重物的水平或竖直圆周运动(张力变化),以及卫星轨道(重力提供向心力)。在竖直圆周运动中,必须考虑能量变化和通过最高点所需的最小速度(绳端重物 v = √(g r))。

    📚 IB & CIE Physics: Waves – Key Concepts & Exam Tips | IB 与 CIE 物理:波 – 核心考点精讲

    Waves form a central pillar in both IB and CIE A-Level Physics, linking oscillations to optics, sound and even quantum ideas. This revision guide distills the essential definitions, formulas and exam strategies you need to master wave behaviour, interference, standing waves, the Doppler effect and polarisation.

    波动是 IB 与 CIE A-Level 物理的核心内容之一,它将振动同光学、声学乃至量子观念紧密相连。这篇复习指南提炼了最重要的定义、公式和应试策略,帮助你掌握波的传播特性、干涉、驻波、多普勒效应以及偏振。

    1. Types of Waves and Basic Quantities | 波的种类与基本物理量

    Waves transfer energy without any net transfer of matter. A transverse wave has particle oscillations perpendicular to the direction of energy propagation; examples include light, water ripples and seismic S-waves. A longitudinal wave has oscillations parallel to the propagation direction, as in sound and seismic P-waves.

    波传递能量而并不迁移物质。横波的质点振动方向垂直于能量传播方向,例如光、水波和地震 S 波;纵波的质点振动方向平行于传播方向,例如声波和地震 P 波。

    The key kinematic quantities are displacement y (m), amplitude A (m), wavelength λ (m), frequency f (Hz), period T (s) and wave speed v (m s⁻¹). They are linked by T = 1/f and v = f λ.

    关键运动学量包括位移 y(m)、振幅 A(m)、波长 λ(m)、频率 f(Hz)、周期 T(s)和波速 v(m s⁻¹)。它们满足 T = 1/f 以及 v = f λ。

    Always identify whether you are dealing with a transverse or longitudinal wave from the context, as this determines how the particle motion is drawn and how polarisation can be applied.

    做题时首先要根据情景判断是横波还是纵波,因为这决定了画粒子振动方向的方式,也决定了偏振是否适用。

    2. The Wave Equation and Graphical Representations | 波速公式与图像表示

    The fundamental wave equation is used constantly in both CIE and IB papers:

    v = f λ

    波的基本公式在 CIE 和 IB 考试中反复出现:

    v = f λ

    A displacement–distance graph for a fixed instant shows the wavelength λ as the distance between two successive in‑phase points. A displacement–time graph for a single particle shows the period T as the time between successive identical states. The shape of the wave on a displacement–distance graph is a snapshot of the whole wave profile, while the displacement–time graph resembles a simple harmonic oscillation.

    固定时刻的位移–距离图显示波形,两个相邻同相点之间的距离就是波长 λ。单质点的位移–时间图则显示该点振动情况,两次相同振动状态之间的时间间隔为周期 T。位移–距离图是一幅波形“快照”,而位移–时间图则类似于简谐振动图像。

    Calculating frequency from the period or vice‑versa is a common first step. For electromagnetic waves in a vacuum, c = 3.00×10⁸ m s⁻¹, and you can use c = f λ to find unknown quantities.

    由周期求频率(或反求)是常见的解题第一步。对于真空中的电磁波,c = 3.00×10⁸ m s⁻¹,利用 c = f λ 即可求出未知量。

    3. Phase and Phase Difference | 相位与相位差

    Phase describes the fraction of a wave cycle that has been completed relative to a reference. Two points on a wave are in phase if their phase difference is an integer multiple of 2π (or 360°). They are in anti‑phase if the difference is π, 3π, 5π …

    相位描述波在一个周期中所处的阶段。若两点相位差为 2π(或 360°)的整数倍,则它们同相;若相位差为 π, 3π, 5π …,则它们反相。

    Phase difference Δφ is linked to path difference Δx by

    Δφ = (2π / λ) × Δx

    相位差 Δφ 与路程差 Δx 的关系为

    Δφ = (2π / λ) × Δx

    Understanding phase is crucial for interference and standing waves. For instance, a path difference of λ/2 corresponds to a phase difference of π, giving destructive interference.

    理解相位是掌握干涉和驻波的关键。例如,路程差为 λ/2 对应相位差 π,产生相消干涉。

    4. Superposition and Interference | 叠加原理与干涉

    The principle of superposition states that when two or more waves meet at a point, the resultant displacement is the vector sum of the individual displacements. For coherent sources (same frequency, same waveform and a constant phase difference), this leads to stable interference patterns.

    叠加原理指出,当两列(或多列)波在空间某点相遇时,该点的合位移等于各列波单独引起的位移的矢量和。对于相干波源(频率相同、波形相同且具有恒定相位差),叠加会形成稳定的干涉图样。

    Constructive interference occurs where the waves arrive in phase, producing a maximum amplitude (A₁ + A₂). Destructive interference occurs where they arrive in anti‑phase, giving a minimum amplitude (|A₁ – A₂|). For light and sound, constructive interference produces bright fringes or loud spots, while destructive interference yields dark fringes or quiet spots.

    当两列波同相到达时,产生相长干涉,合成振幅最大(A₁ + A₂);当反相到达时,产生相消干涉,合成振幅最小(|A₁ – A₂|)。对于光或声波,相长干涉对应亮条纹或响点,相消干涉对应暗条纹或静点。

    In order to obtain clear two‑source interference patterns, the sources must be coherent. A laser or a single slit placed before double slits can provide the necessary coherence.

    要获得清晰的双源干涉图样,波源必须相干。激光,或在双缝前放置单缝,都可以提供所需的相干性。

    5. Young’s Double‑Slit Experiment | 杨氏双缝实验

    Young’s double‑slit experiment provides direct evidence for the wave nature of light. Coherent light passing through two narrow slits produces an interference pattern of equally spaced bright and dark fringes on a distant screen.

    杨氏双缝实验为光的波动性提供了直接证据。相干光通过两条狭缝后在远处屏幕上形成等间距的明暗相间的干涉条纹。

    The fringe spacing Δx (or s) is given by

    Δx = λD / d

    条纹间距 Δx(或记作 s)由下式决定:

    Δx = λD / d

    where λ is the wavelength, D is the slit‑to‑screen distance and d is the separation between the two slits. All quantities must be in consistent SI units. If white light is used, the central fringe is white, and higher‑order fringes are coloured spectra because λ differs for different colours.

    式中 λ 为波长,D 为缝屏间距,d 为双缝间距。计算时所有量必须使用一致的国际单位。若使用白光,中央条纹为白色,高级次条纹则会因不同颜色的波长差异而呈现彩色光谱。

    6. Diffraction Gratings | 衍射光栅

    A diffraction grating consists of many equally spaced parallel slits. It produces much sharper and more widely spaced maxima than a double slit. The condition for constructive interference (principal maxima) is the grating equation:

    d sin θ = nλ    (n = 0, 1, 2, …)

    衍射光栅由大量等间距的平行刻线构成,产生的明纹比双缝更细更亮,且间距更大。相长干涉(主极大)的条件由光栅方程给出:

    d sin θ = nλ    (n = 0, 1, 2, …)

    Here d is the grating spacing (e.g. 1/number of lines per metre), θ is the angle of the nth order maximum measured from the central axis, and n is the order number. The maximum possible order is limited because sin θ ≤ 1, so n ≤ d/λ.

    式中 d 为光栅常数(例如每毫米刻线数的倒数),θ 为第 n 级明纹相对中央零级的衍射角,n 为级数。由于 sin θ ≤ 1,最大可能级数受限于 n ≤ d/λ。

    Using a grating to measure an unknown wavelength is a classic practical; you normally measure the angles for several orders and average. Remember that zero order (n = 0) always lies on the central axis and is un‑deviated.

    利用光栅测量未知波长是经典的实验题;通常测量多个级次的衍射角并求平均值。注意零级(n = 0)始终在中央轴线上,不发生偏折。

    7. Standing Waves | 驻波

    A standing (stationary) wave is formed when two progressive waves of the same frequency and amplitude travel in opposite directions and superpose. The waveform does not propagate; instead, nodes (points of zero displacement) and antinodes (points of maximum displacement) are fixed in space.

    当两列频率、振幅相同且相向传播的行波叠加时,会形成驻波(定波)。波形并不向前传播,波节(位移始终为零)和波腹(振幅最大)在空间固定不动。

    For a string fixed at both ends, the allowed wavelengths and frequencies are given by

    L = n (λₙ/2)    and    fₙ = n (v/2L),   n = 1, 2, 3…

    对于两端固定的弦,允许的波长与频率为

    L = n (λₙ/2)    且    fₙ = n (v/2L),   n = 1, 2, 3…

    For a pipe open at both ends, the same harmonic series holds (displacement antinodes at both ends). For a pipe closed at one end, only odd harmonics exist:

    L = (2n – 1) λₙ/4       fₙ = (2n – 1) v/4L,   n = 1, 2, 3…

    对于两端开口的管,谐频序列与两端固定弦相同(两端为位移波腹)。对于一端封闭的管,仅存在奇数倍谐频:

    L = (2n – 1) λₙ/4       fₙ = (2n – 1) v/4L,   n = 1, 2, 3…

    Nodes are separated by λ/2; an antinode lies midway between two adjacent nodes. In exam sketches, clearly label nodes (N) and antinodes (A) and indicate the amplitude envelope.

    相邻波节相距 λ/2,波腹位于两相邻波节的中点。在考试画图题中,务必标出波节 (N) 和波腹 (A),并画出振幅包络线。

    8. Doppler Effect | 多普勒效应

    The Doppler effect is the change in observed frequency when a wave source moves relative to an observer. For sound and other mechanical waves, the observed frequency f′ is given by

    f′ = f × (v ± vₒ) / (v ∓ vₛ)

    多普勒效应是指当波源与观察者相对运动时,观察者接收到的频率发生变化的现象。对于声波等机械波,观测频率 f′ 由下式给出:

    f′ = f × (v ± vₒ) / (v ∓ vₛ)

    where f is the source frequency, v is the wave speed in the medium, vₒ is the observer’s speed and vₛ is the source’s speed. The sign convention: use ‘+’ in the numerator if the observer moves toward the source, ‘–’ if away; in the denominator use ‘–’ if the source moves toward the observer, ‘+’ if away. For electromagnetic waves, the relativistic Doppler formula is used, but at low speeds the approximation f′ ≈ f (1 ± v/c) can be applied.

    式中 f 为波源频率,v 为介质中的波速,vₒ 为观察者速率,vₛ 为波源速率。符号约定:观察者靠近波源时分子取“+”,远离取“–”;波源靠近观察者时分母取“–”,远离取“+”。对于电磁波需用相对论多普勒公式,但在低速情况下可用近似 f′ ≈ f (1 ± v/c)。

    Typical applications include police radar speed traps, redshift of galaxies, and medical ultrasound flow meters. Pay attention to which object is moving and choose the sign carefully.

    常见应用包括警用雷达测速、星系红移和医用超声流量计。解题时要分清哪个物体在运动,符号选择务必小心。

    9. Polarisation | 偏振

    Polarisation is a phenomenon exclusive to transverse waves. It describes the restriction of the oscillations of a transverse wave to a single plane. Longitudinal waves (such as sound) cannot be polarised.

    偏振是横波特有的现象,指将横波的振动限制在单一平面内。纵波(如声波)无法偏振。

    Unpolarised light can be plane‑polarised by passing it through a Polaroid filter. The transmitted intensity I after passing through an ideal polariser is given by Malus’s law:

    I = I₀ cos²θ

    非偏振光通过偏振片后可变成平面偏振光。通过理想偏振片后的透射光强遵循马吕斯定律:

    I = I₀ cos²θ

    where I₀ is the intensity of the beam incident on the analyser and θ is the angle between the transmission axes of the polariser and the analyser. Note that when unpolarised light passes through a single polariser, its intensity is immediately halved (because the average of cos²θ over all orientations is ½).

    式中 I₀ 为入射到检偏器的光强,θ 为起偏器与检偏器透振轴的夹角。需要注意:非偏振光通过一个偏振片后强度立即减半(因为 cos²θ 对随机取向的平均值为 ½)。

    Polarisation provides clear evidence that light is a transverse wave. It is used in Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs), glare‑reducing sunglasses, and stress analysis of materials.

    偏振为光的横波特性提供了有力证据,并广泛应用于液晶显示器(LCD)、防眩光太阳镜以及材料应力分析中。

    10. Exam Tips for Waves | 波的考试技巧

    Always convert quantities to base SI units before substituting into formulas. For fringe spacing calculations, make sure slit separation d and fringe spacing Δx are in metres, and D is in metres. Check that your answer for wavelength is reasonable (visible light ≈ 4×10⁻⁷ to 7×10⁻⁷ m).

    代入公式前务必将所有量换算为基本国际单位。计算条纹间距时,确认双缝间距 d、条纹间距 Δx 和缝屏距 D 均以米为单位。波长结果应落在合理范围(可见光约为 4×10⁻⁷ 至 7×10⁻⁷ m)。

    When sketching standing waves, draw a smooth envelope and clearly mark nodes and antinodes. For two‑source interference, label the central maximum and the first‑order maxima. In phase‑difference questions, draw a reference circle or use Δφ = (2π/λ) Δx to find the phase.

    画驻波图时,要画出平滑的包络线并明确标注波节与波腹。对于双源干涉图,标出中央极大和一级极大。涉及相位差的题目可画参考圆或直接使用 Δφ = (2π/λ) Δx 进行计算。

    For the Doppler effect, underline the direction of motion before choosing signs; a quick rule – frequency rises when source and observer approach each other. In Malus’s law, remember that the first polariser halves the intensity of unpolarised light before you apply the cos²θ factor.

    处理多普勒效应时,先在草稿纸上标出运动方向再选择符号;一个快速判断法则是:当波源与观察者相互靠近时频率升高。应用马吕斯定律时,非偏振光经过第一个偏振片强度减半,此后才能代入 cos²θ 因子。

    During practical assessments or data‑analysis questions, repeat measurements, calculate a mean wavelength, and determine the uncertainty using half the range. Use a protractor diagram when measuring angles for a diffraction grating, and always read the scale precisely.

    在实验评估或数据分析题中,要重复测量,计算平均波长,并用半极差法估算不确定度。用分光计测量光栅衍射角时,务必精确读刻度,并在记录纸上画出光路示意图。
