However, Lagos is also a centre of innovation, with tech start-ups, the Eko Atlantic land-reclamation project and an expanding bus rapid-transit system offering hope for a more sustainable future.

Another mistake is using vague language such as ‘there were many deaths’ – always give a specific figure or named place if you can. Also, mix physical and human factors when appropriate, and always mention both short-term and long-term responses unless the question asks for only one.
