The simplest way to memorise the seven characteristics of living organisms is the acronym MRS GREN. Each letter stands for one life process that all living things carry out. Recite “MRS GREN” every time you need to check if something is alive.

Derm- (skin) → epidermis, dermatology. Your epidermis is the outer layer of skin. The word sounds like ‘derma’, which reminds you of a dermatologist (skin doctor).
