1. Present Tense Regular Verb Conjugation Formula | 现在时规则动词变位公式

Regular German verbs follow a predictable pattern in the present tense. Take the verb stem (infinitive minus ‘-en’) and add these endings: ich -e, du -st, er/sie/es -t, wir -en, ihr -t, sie/Sie -en. For example, ‘spielen’ (to play) gives: ich spiele, du spielst, er spielt, wir spielen, ihr spielt, sie spielen. If the stem ends in -d, -t or a consonant cluster like -chn, -ffn, an extra ‘-e-‘ is inserted before the -st and -t endings (e.g. arbeiten → du arbeitest, er arbeitet).

Pronoun Ending spielen (play)
ich -e spiele
du -st spielst
er/sie/es -t spielt
wir -en spielen
ihr -t spielt
sie/Sie -en spielen

2. The Verb ‘sein’ (to be) – Irregular Conjugation | 动词“sein”(是)的不规则变位

The verb ‘sein’ is one of the most important irregular verbs. Its forms must be memorised: ich bin, du bist, er/sie/es ist, wir sind, ihr seid, sie/Sie sind. There is no regular pattern here, so use it often until it becomes second nature. Example: Ich bin zwölf Jahre alt. (I am twelve years old.) Bist du müde? (Are you tired?)

动词“sein”是最重要的不规则动词之一,其形式必须牢记:ich bin, du bist, er/sie/es ist, wir sind, ihr seid, sie/Sie sind。这里没有规则变化可循,因此请多使用直到脱口而出。例句:Ich bin zwölf Jahre alt.(我十二岁。)Bist du müde?(你累吗?)

Pronoun sein
ich bin
du bist
er/sie/es ist
wir sind
ihr seid
sie/Sie sind

3. The Verb ‘haben’ (to have) – Irregular Conjugation | 动词“haben”(有)的不规则变位

‘Haben’ is another essential irregular verb, used for possession and as an auxiliary in later tenses. Its present tense forms are: ich habe, du hast, er/sie/es hat, wir haben, ihr habt, sie/Sie haben. Notice the ‘b’ disappears in ‘du hast’ and ‘er hat’. Ich habe einen Bruder. (I have a brother.) Hast du eine Katze? (Do you have a cat?)

“haben”是另一个关键的不规则动词,既可表示拥有,将来时态中也可作助动词。现在时形式为:ich habe, du hast, er/sie/es hat, wir haben, ihr habt, sie/Sie haben。注意在“du hast”和“er hat”中“b”消失了。Ich habe einen Bruder.(我有一个兄弟。)Hast du eine Katze?(你有一只猫吗?)

Pronoun haben
ich habe
du hast
er/sie/es hat
wir haben
ihr habt
sie/Sie haben

4. Definite Articles: der, die, das – The Gender Formula | 定冠词:der, die, das – 词性公式

Every German noun has a grammatical gender: masculine (der), feminine (die) or neuter (das). The definite article ‘the’ must match the gender and case. In the nominative case (subject of a sentence), use der for masculine, die for feminine, das for neuter, and die for all plurals. There are some patterns: words ending in -e are often feminine (die Lampe), words ending in -chen or -lein are neuter (das Mädchen), and nouns describing male persons are masculine (der Vater). However, many nouns simply have to be learned with their article.

每个德语名词都有语法词性:阳性(der)、阴性(die)或中性(das)。定冠词“the”必须与名词的性和格相匹配。在第一格(主格,句子主语)中,阳性用 der,阴性用 die,中性用 das,所有复数都用 die。有一些规律可循:以 -e 结尾的词通常是阴性(die Lampe),以 -chen 或 -lein 结尾的词是中性(das Mädchen),描述男性的名词为阳性(der Vater)。不过,许多名词只能连同冠词一起记忆。

Gender Definite Article (Nom.) Example
Masculine der der Tisch (table)
Feminine die die Tür (door)
Neuter das das Buch (book)
Plural (all genders) die die Bücher (books)

5. Indefinite Articles: ein, eine – The Gender Formula | 不定冠词:ein, eine – 词性公式

The indefinite article ‘a/an’ in German also depends on gender. In the nominative case, masculine and neuter nouns take ‘ein’ (ein Mann, ein Kind), while feminine nouns take ‘eine’ (eine Frau). Plural indefinites (some) often use no article or the word ‘keine’ for negation. Remember: there is no indefinite article for plurals; you simply say ‘Bücher’ (books). When learning a new noun, always learn its gender together with ‘ein’ or ‘eine’ to lock in the correct form.

德语中“a/an”的不定冠词也取决于词性。在第一格中,阳性和中性名词用“ein”(ein Mann, ein Kind),阴性名词用“eine”(eine Frau)。复数不定指(一些)通常不使用冠词,或否定时用“keine”。牢记:复数没有不定冠词,直接说“Bücher”(书)。学习新名词时,一定要连同“ein”或“eine”一起记,以锁定正确形式。

Gender Indefinite Article (Nom.) Example
Masculine ein ein Stuhl (a chair)
Feminine eine eine Lampe (a lamp)
Neuter ein ein Heft (an exercise book)

6. Noun Plural Patterns – Key Rules | 名词复数形式 – 关键规则

German plurals are not as simple as adding -s; they follow several patterns. Common plural endings include: -e (der Tisch → die Tische), -er (das Kind → die Kinder), -(e)n (die Frau → die Frauen), -s (das Auto → die Autos), and zero ending with umlaut (der Vater → die Väter). The plural article is always ‘die’ in the nominative. While there are no fail-safe rules, many feminine nouns add -(e)n, neuter nouns ending in -chen/-lein stay unchanged, and many masculine nouns add -e or umlaut + -e. Learning the plural together with the noun is vital.

德语复数并非简单地加 -s,而是遵循多种模式。常见的复数词尾有:-e(der Tisch → die Tische),-er(das Kind → die Kinder),-(e)n(die Frau → die Frauen),-s(das Auto → die Autos),以及变音且无词尾(der Vater → die Väter)。主格中复数冠词总是“die”。虽然不存在万无一失的规则,但很多阴性名词加 -(e)n,以 -chen/-lein 结尾的中性名词保持不变,许多阳性名词加 -e 或变音 + -e。将复数形式与名词一同记忆至关重要。

Pattern Singular Plural
add -e (often with umlaut) der Stuhl die Stühle
add -er (often with umlaut) das Bild die Bilder
add -n/-en die Blume die Blumen
add -s das Handy die Handys
no change (sometimes umlaut) der Bruder die Brüder

7. Personal Pronouns in the Nominative Case | 主格人称代词

Personal pronouns replace nouns and must agree in person and number. The nominative forms are: ich (I), du (you, informal singular), er (he/it m.), sie (she/it f.), es (it n.), wir (we), ihr (you, informal plural), sie (they), Sie (you, formal singular/plural). Use ‘du’ when talking to a friend or family member, and ‘Sie’ with adults you don’t know well or in formal settings. Capitalisation of ‘Sie’ (formal) is always required.

人称代词代替名词,须在人称和数方面保持一致。主格形式为:ich(我),du(你,非正式单数),er(他/它,阳性),sie(她/它,阴性),es(它,中性),wir(我们),ihr(你们,非正式复数),sie(他们),Sie(您/你们,正式单复数)。与朋友或家人说话时用“du”,与不熟悉的成人或正式场合用“Sie”,且“Sie”(尊称)始终大写。

English German (Nominative)
I ich
you (singular informal) du
he / it (m.) er
she / it (f.) sie
it (n.) es
we wir
you (plural informal) ihr
they sie
you (formal, sg./pl.) Sie

8. Basic Word Order: Subject-Verb-Object (SVO) & Verb Second Rule | 基本语序:主-动-宾(SVO)和动词二位法则

In main clauses (statements), the conjugated verb is always the second element. This famous ‘verb-second’ rule means the subject does not have to be first, but the verb must be second. For example: Ich spiele am Samstag Fußball. (I play football on Saturday.) → Am Samstag spiele ich Fußball. (On Saturday I play football.) Notice how the verb ‘spiele’ stays in position two. The rest of the sentence follows the pattern: subject, verb, adverbs (time, manner, place), object, more information.

在主句(陈述句)中,变位动词始终是第二个成分。这条著名的“动词二位”法则意味着主语不一定在句首,但动词必须在第二位。例如:Ich spiele am Samstag Fußball.(我周六踢足球。)→ Am Samstag spiele ich Fußball.(周六我踢足球。)注意动词“spiele”仍保持在第二位。句子的其余部分遵循:主语、动词、副词(时间、方式、地点)、宾语及其他信息。

Formula: [Element 1] + [Conjugated Verb] + [Subject] + [Other info]

公式:[成分1] + [变位动词] + [主语] + [其他信息]

9. Forming Questions: W-Fragen and Yes/No Questions | 构造问句:特殊疑问句与一般疑问句

Yes/no questions follow a simple verb-first formula: take the conjugated verb and place it directly before the subject. Example: Du hast ein Haustier. → Hast du ein Haustier? (Do you have a pet?) For information questions, use a question word (W-Wort) in first position, then the verb, then the subject: Wann beginnt der Film? (When does the film start?) Common question words include: wer (who), was (what), wo (where), wann (when), warum (why), wie (how).

一般疑问句遵循动词居首的简单公式:将变位动词直接放在主语之前。例如:Du hast ein Haustier. → Hast du ein Haustier? 特殊疑问句则将疑问词(W-Wort)放在第一位,然后是动词,接着是主语:Wann beginnt der Film? 常见疑问词有:wer(谁),was(什么),wo(哪里),wann(什么时候),warum(为什么),wie(怎样)。

Yes/No Q Formula: [Verb] + [Subject] + [Rest]?

一般疑问句公式:[动词] + [主语] + [其余]?

W-Question Formula: [Question Word] + [Verb] + [Subject] + [Rest]?

特殊疑问句公式:[疑问词] + [动词] + [主语] + [其余]?

10. Negation with ‘nicht’ and ‘kein’ | 用“nicht”和“kein”表示否定

There are two main ways to negate in German. Use ‘nicht’ to negate verbs, adjectives, adverbs or entire sentences. It usually comes at the end of the sentence, or before the element it negates. Example: Ich verstehe nicht. (I don’t understand.) Er ist nicht groß. (He is not tall.) Use ‘kein’ (and its forms keine, keinen) to negate a noun that would normally have an indefinite article (ein/eine) or no article. ‘Kein’ behaves like ‘ein’ and must match the gender and case: Ich habe kein Geld. (I have no money.) Das ist keine gute Idee. (That is not a good idea.)

德语中有两种主要的否定方式。用“nicht”否定动词、形容词、副词或整个句子,通常放在句子末尾或被否定成分之前。例如:Ich verstehe nicht.(我不明白。)Er ist nicht groß.(他不高。)用“kein”(及其形式 keine, keinen)否定通常有不定冠词或没有冠词的名词。“kein”的变化形式与“ein”相似,必须与名词的性和格保持一致:Ich habe kein Geld.(我没有钱。)Das ist keine gute Idee.(这不是个好主意。)

Case Masculine Feminine Neuter Plural
Nominative kein keine kein keine

11. Adjective Endings After Definite Articles (Simple Formula) | 定冠词后的形容词词尾(简单公式)

When an adjective comes before a noun and after a definite article (der/die/das/die), the adjective usually ends in -e in the nominative singular for all genders, and in -en for all plurals and for other cases. For Year 7, focus on the nominative: der große Hund (the big dog), die kleine Katze (the small cat), das rote Auto (the red car), die netten Kinder (the nice children). This simple pattern gives you a strong foundation before tackling mixed and strong endings.

当形容词位于名词之前且跟在定冠词(der/die/das/die)后面时,在主格单数中所有词性的形容词通常以 -e 结尾,复数及其他格则加 -en。七年级重点掌握主格:der große Hund(大狗),die kleine Katze(小猫),das rote Auto(红色汽车),die netten Kinder(友好的孩子们)。这个简单规律能为日后学习混合变化和强变化打下坚实基础。

Gender Definite Article + Adjective + Noun (Nom.) Ending
Masculine der neu__ Computer -e
Feminine die alt__ Uhr -e
Neuter das klein__ Zimmer -e
Plural die schnell__ Autos -en

12. Common Prepositions with Accusative/Dative (Intro) | 常见介词与格(入门)

Prepositions in German trigger specific cases. For Year 7, it is helpful to know a few key ones. Prepositions that always take the accusative case include: für (for), ohne (without), um (around). Prepositions that always take the dative case include: mit (with), von (from/of), zu (to). There is a larger group of two-way prepositions (e.g. in, an, auf) that take either accusative (movement) or dative (location), but in Year 7 simply recognising these prepositions and the case they need is a great start. Example: für meinen Bruder (accusative), mit meiner Freundin (dative).

德语的介词要求特定的格。七年级阶段,掌握几个关键介词就很有帮助。始终要求宾格(第四格)的介词有:für(为了),ohne(没有),um(围绕)。始终要求与格(第三格)的介词有:mit(和……一起),von(从……的,属于……的),zu(向,到)。还有一大类可跟第四格或第三格的静三动四介词(如 in, an, auf),但在七年级能辨认这些介词及其所需格就是很好的开端。例如:für meinen Bruder(宾格),mit meiner Freundin(与格)。

Preposition Case Example
für Accusative für den Hund
ohne Accusative ohne meine Tasche
