Stage Areas and Directions help actors know where to move. The acting area is divided into sections based on the performer’s perspective facing the audience.

Downstage (DS): The part of the stage closest to the audience. It is called ‘down’ because traditionally stages were raked (slanted) downwards towards the audience.
