Break-even point: The level of output where total revenue equals total costs, resulting in zero profit or loss. Calculated using:

Hierarchy: The layers of authority in a business. A tall hierarchy has many layers; a flat hierarchy has few, encouraging wider spans of control.

Span of control: The number of subordinates directly managed by a line manager. A wide span means many subordinates; a narrow span, fewer.
