Year 11 OCR Chinese: Quick Reference Handbook of Formulas & Theorems | 中文公式定理速查手册

📚 Year 11 OCR Chinese: Quick Reference Handbook of Formulas & Theorems | 中文公式定理速查手册

This is not a maths paper, but mastering the structures and patterns of Chinese can feel just like learning a set of algebraic formulas. Every sentence you build follows a predictable skeletal rule, every tense or aspect marker has its own theorem, and every question type has a transformation algorithm. This handbook distills the OCR GCSE Chinese syllabus into essential ‘formulas’ and ‘theorems’ that you can memorise and apply instantly, whether you are tackling the speaking, writing, or reading paper. Treat each rule as a tool: slot in the correct vocabulary, follow the formula, and you will produce accurate, high-scoring Chinese sentences every time.

1. The Master Formula: Basic Sentence Structure | 总公式:基本语序公式

Chinese word order is famously rigid, but this rigidity is your greatest advantage: once you learn the master formula, you will never misplace the time, place, or object again. The canonical pattern for a statement is: Subject + Time when + Place / Location + Verb + Object. Adverbials of time and place always come before the verb, never after. If you need to express how an action is performed, the manner adverb (with ‘de’) slides in right before the verb. This single formula underpins nearly every declarative sentence you will write in the exam.

汉语的语序是出奇固定的,而这种固定正是你最大的优势:一旦学会了总公式,你就再也不会把时间、地点或宾语放错位置。陈述句的标准模板是:主语 + 时间 + 地点 + 动词 + 宾语。时间和地点状语永远放在动词之前,绝不能后置。如果你要表达动作进行的方式,用“地”构成的方式状语也要紧贴在动词前。你在考试中写出的几乎所有陈述句,都建立在这一个公式之上。

S (Subject) + T (Time) + P (Place) + V (Verb) + O (Object) → a complete statement

主语 + 时间 + 地点 + 动词 + 宾语 → 完整陈述句

Example: ‘Wo zuotian zai tushuguan kan shu’ (I yesterday at library read book). Notice how ‘yesterday’ and ‘at the library’ both appear before the verb ‘kan’. In English we would place them after: ‘I read a book at the library yesterday.’ For OCR students, internalising this back-to-front sequence eliminates the most common source of word-order errors and instantly makes your writing sound natural.

例如:“我昨天在图书馆看书”。注意“昨天”和“在图书馆”都出现在动词“看”之前。英语里我们会把它们放在后面:“I read a book at the library yesterday”。对于 OCR 考生来说,把这种与英语相反的语序内化,就能消除最常见的语序错误来源,即时让你的文字听起来自然地道。

2. The ‘Ba’ Disposal Formula | “把”字处置式公式

The ‘ba’ sentence is a signature adult-like structure that appears in OCR writing tasks to express what happens to a specific object. Think of ‘ba’ as a function that takes a known object and pushes it before the verb, forcing you to add a result, direction, or change. The formula reads: Subject + ba + Object + Verb + Complement / Other Element. Without a complement, the sentence is incomplete. This construction shows control and is perfect for describing cooking, tidying, or completing a task.

“把”字句是标志性的成熟表达,在 OCR 写作题中用于描述某个特定对象怎么样了。可以把“把”想象成一个函数,它把已知的宾语提到动词前面,并强迫你加上结果、趋向或变化。公式是:主语 + 把 + 宾语 + 动词 + 补语/其他成分。没有补语,句子就不完整。这种结构体现出对事物的处置,非常适合描写做饭、收拾或完成任务。

Subject + 把 + Object + V + Complement / ‘le’ / Direction → dispossessed and transformed object

主语 + 把 + 宾语 + 动词 + 补语/了/趋向 → 被处置并改变的宾语

For instance, ‘Wo ba fangjian dashou ganjing le’ (I ba room clean up). The object ‘fangjian’ is placed before the verb ‘dashou’, and the sentence must end with the result complement ‘ganjing’ (clean) plus the change-of-state ‘le’. If you just say ‘Wo dashou fangjian’, it sounds unfinished in many contexts. Using this formula proves to examiners you can manipulate objects with precision.

例如,“我把房间打扫干净了”。宾语“房间”被放到动词“打扫”之前,句子必须以结果补语“干净”加上表示状态变化的“了”收尾。如果你只说“我打扫房间”,在很多语境下听起来就不完整。使用这个公式能让考官看出你可以精准地操纵宾语。

主语 宾语 动词 补语/了 翻译
妈妈 衣服 好了 Mum washed the clothes
作业 You finish writing the homework

3. The Comparative Theorem: Using ‘bi’ | 比较定理:用“比”

When the exam asks you to compare two things, the ‘bi’ structure is your theorem of relativity. Unlike English, you do not add ‘-er’ or ‘more’ to the adjective itself; instead you build a frame: A + bi + B + adjective. The adjective remains bare—no extra modifiers like ‘hen’ or ‘feichang’ are allowed. If you need to quantify the difference, slot a ‘yidian’ (a bit) or ‘duo le’ (much) after the adjective. This theorem also extends to verb comparison with a different formula: A + V + de + bi + B + adjective.

当考题要求你比较两件事物时,“比”字结构就是你的相对论定理。和英语不同,你不需要给形容词本身加上“更”或“-er”;相反,你需要搭建一个框架:A + 比 + B + 形容词。形容词必须保持光杆状态,不能加“很”或“非常”。如果需要量化差异,就在形容词后面加上“一点儿”或“多了”。这个定理也扩展到动词比较,此时改用另一个公式:A + 动词 + 得 + 比 + B + 形容词。

A + 比 + B + Adj (+ 一点儿 / 多了) → A is …-er than B

A + 比 + B + 形容词 (+ 一点儿 / 多了) → A 比 B 更……

In OCR writing, you might need to compare cities, hobbies, or exam results: ‘Beijing bi Shanghai leng yidian’ (Beijing is a bit colder than Shanghai). Never write ‘Beijing bi Shanghai hen leng’. The exam also likes degrees: ‘Wo bi jieje gao duo le’ (I am much taller than my sister). Using ‘duo le’ instead of ‘hen’ counts as a higher-level grammar point.

在 OCR 写作中,你可能需要比较城市、爱好或考试成绩:“北京比上海冷一点儿”。绝对不要写“北京比上海很冷”。考试也喜欢程度修饰:“我比姐姐高多了”。用“多了”而不用“很”属于高阶语法点。

4. The ‘Shi…de’ Emphasis Construct | “是……的”强调结构公式

The ‘shi…de’ frame is a theorem for pulling focus onto the time, place, manner, or purpose of a past event, rather than the action itself. Its pattern is: (Subj) + shi + [emphasised detail] + V + de. The event has already happened, so the ‘de’ closes the frame and signals that the information is given, not the completion. This construction answers the ‘when, where, how’ questions that exam role-plays often demand.

“是……的”框架是一个定理,用于把焦点拉到过去事件的时间、地点、方式或目的上,而不是动作本身。它的模式是:(主语) + 是 + [被强调的细节] + 动词 + 的。事件已经发生,所以“的”关闭框架,提示这是背景信息而非动作完成。当考试的角色扮演问道“什么时候、在哪里、怎么做的”时,就需要用这个结构来回答。

(Subj) + 是 + [Time/Place/Manner] + V + 的 → emphasis on detail of past action

(主语) + 是 + [时间/地点/方式] + 动词 + 的 → 强调过去动作的某个方面

If the question is ‘Ni shi zenme qu xuexiao de?’ (How did you get to school?), the formula dictates the reply: ‘Wo shi zuo gonggong qiche qu de’ (I went by bus). The ‘de’ at the end cannot be omitted. Misplacing ‘de’ or using ‘le’ instead is a classic error; remember that ‘shi…de’ frames known facts, while ‘le’ announces new completion.

如果问题是“你是怎么去学校的?”,公式决定了回答:“我是坐公共汽车去的”。句末的“的”不能省略。错放“的”的位置或者误用“了”,都是经典错误;记住“是……的”框定已知事实,而“了”宣告新的完成。

5. The ‘Le’ Aspect Particle Rules | “了”体标记规则定理

Misusing ‘le’ is the number one anxiety for GCSE candidates, but it follows two clean theorems. Theorem A: verb + le + object indicates that an action has been completed in the past or will be completed before another reference point. Theorem B: sentence-final le indicates a change of state or a new situation that has emerged. When both conditions obtain, you may see verb le … le at the end. Do not use ‘le’ with habitual actions, ongoing states, or after modal verbs like ‘yao’ and ‘neng’.

误用“了”是 GCSE 考生的头号焦虑,但它遵循两条清晰的定理。定理 A:动词 + 了 + 宾语表示一个动作已经完成(在过去或者将在另一个参照点之前完成)。定理 B:句尾的“了”表示情况发生了变化,或出现了新的状态。如果两个条件同时满足,你可能会看到动词了……句尾了的格局。注意,惯常行为、持续状态或能愿动词(要、能)后面不能加“了”。

V + 了 + O → completed action; Sentence + 了 → changed situation

动词 + 了 + 宾语 → 完成动作;句子 + 了 → 情况变化

For example, ‘Wo chi le wanfan’ (I ate dinner) marks a finished action; ‘Tian hei le’ (It has got dark) marks a newly emerged state. Combining both: ‘Wo xie le liang feng xin le’ (I have written two letters — implying I might write more). In the writing exam, using both ‘le’ theorems correctly and balancing them with ‘shi…de’ shows advanced grammatical control.

例如,“我吃了晚饭”标记完成动作;“天黑了”标记新出现的状态。两者合用:“我写了两封信了”(我到现在为止写了两封信,可能还会写更多)。在写作考试中,正确使用两类“了”定理,并与“是……的”交织使用,能显示出高级的语法驾驭力。

6. The Complement Equations: Result & Potential | 补语方程:结果与可能补语

Complements are like equation terms that bind to verbs to express outcome or capability. The result complement formula is: V + Result Adjective/Verb → completed outcome. Example: ‘kan jian’ (see), ‘ting dong’ (understand by listening). The potential complement adds ‘de’ (able) or ‘bu’ (unable) between verb and result: V + de/bu + Result → can/cannot achieve the outcome. This is the exam synonym for ‘neng / bu neng’, but it sounds far more native.

补语就像方程项,附着在动词后表示结果或可能性。结果补语公式是:动词 + 结果形容词/动词 → 完成的结果。例如:“看见”、“听懂”。可能补语在动词和结果之间插入“得”(能)或“不”(不能):动词 + 得/不 + 结果 → 能不能达到结果。这个结构在考试中就是“能/不能”的同义词,但听起来地道得多。

V + Result → outcome; V + 得/不 + Result → can / cannot reach outcome

动词 + 结果 → 结果;动词 + 得/不 + 结果 → 可能 / 不可能

Common exam uses: ‘Wo ting bu dong laoshi shuo de hua’ (I cannot understand what the teacher says). Avoid the more English-like ‘Wo bu neng ting dong’. Also ‘shui de zhao’ (can fall asleep) and ‘chi bu wan’ (cannot finish eating) appear frequently in controlled assessments. Remember that with a potential complement, you never insert an object before the complement; the object comes after the whole complement unit or is introduced with a topic.

考试常见用法:“我听不懂老师说的话”。避免使用更像英语的“我不能听懂”。此外“睡得着”、“吃不完”也频繁出现在控制性评估中。记住,在使用可能补语时,绝不能把宾语插在补语之前;宾语要放在整个补语单元后面,或者用话题引入。

7. The Motion Verb Conjugation Formulas | 趋向动词活用公式

Motion verbs such as ‘lai’ and ‘qu’ combine with directional verbs like ‘shang’, ‘xia’, ‘jin’, ‘chu’ to form compounds that feel like conjugations. The formula for simple direction is: Directional V + lai/qu. For compound direction: Action V + Directional V + lai/qu. The choice between ‘lai’ (towards speaker) and ‘qu’ (away) depends on the deixis of the situation. Objects can slide between the two components or after them, with intricate restrictions tested in reading and listening.

For instance, ‘Pa shang lai’ (climb up towards me) versus ‘Pa shang qu’ (climb up away). If an object is a location, it must sit before ‘lai/qu’: ‘Hui jia qu’ (return home). If it is a thing, it can appear before or after: ‘Na chu yi ben shu lai’ or ‘Na chu lai yi ben shu’. These patterns are formulaic and highly rewarding when used precisely in the writing paper.

例如,“爬上来”和“爬上去”。如果宾语是处所词,必须放在“来/去”前:“回家去”。如果是事物,可前可后:“拿出一本书来”或“拿出来一本书”。这些模式公式化极强,在写作卷中精准使用回报丰厚。

8. The Question Transformation Algorithm | 疑问句转换算法

Chinese question formation never requires reordering subjects and auxiliaries; instead you apply one of four algorithms to a statement. Algorithm 1: add ‘ma’ at the end — no other change. Algorithm 2: use a question word (‘shenme’, ‘shei’, ‘nar’, ‘zenme’) in situ, exactly where the answer would sit. Algorithm 3: the V-not-V structure, repeating the verb with ‘bu’ (bu) in between. Algorithm 4: ‘A haishi B?’ for alternative questions. The positive-negative choice for adjective V-not-V is particularly useful: ‘hao bu hao?’.

汉语疑问句的构成完全不需要像英语那样调换主语和助动词;你只需要从四种算法中选用一种套用到陈述句上。算法一:句尾加“吗”,其余不动。算法二:用疑问词(什么、谁、哪儿、怎么)原位替代答案。算法三:正反疑问句 V 不 V,把动词重复并用“不”隔开。算法四:用“A 还是 B?”构成选择问句。形容词的正反问尤为常用:“好不好?”。

Statement + 吗 → yes/no Q; Statement with Q-word in place → WH-Q; V + 不 + V → positive-negative Q; A + 还是 + B → alternative Q

陈述句 + 吗 → 是非问;陈述句内含疑问词 → 特指问; V + 不 + V → 正反问;A + 还是 + B → 选择问

OCR role-plays and writing prompts often demand natural question-forming. Applying the V-not-V algorithm yields ‘Ni xihuan bu xihuan kan dianying?’ Using the question-word algorithm you get ‘Ni xihuan kan shenme dianying?’ Each algorithm fits a different communicative need; examiners look for variety rather than over-relying on ‘ma’.

OCR 的口语角色扮演和写作提示经常要求自然地问出问题。套用 V 不 V 算法得到“你喜欢不喜欢看电影?”;用疑问词算法则是“你喜欢看什么电影?”。每种算法适应不同的交际需要;考官看重多样性,而不是过度依赖“吗”。

9. The Measure Word Theorems | 量词定理

Every noun in Chinese belongs to a category that determines its measure word, and examiners notice if you get this wrong. The basic pairing theorem is: Number + Measure Word + Noun. When the quantity is ‘two’ or above, use ‘liang’ with measure words, never ‘er’. For indefinite amounts, use ‘ji’ + Measure Word. The generic measure word ‘ge’ is a safety net, but sophisticated use of specific classifiers (zhi for animals, ben for books, jian for clothes, tiao for long things) raises your vocabulary score quickly.

汉语中的每个名词都属于一个决定其量词的类别,如果量词用错,考官一眼就能看出来。基本配对定理为:数词 + 量词 + 名词。当数量是“二”或以上时,用“两”搭配量词,绝不能用“二”。表示不定数量则用“几”+ 量词。通用量词“个”是一个安全网,但精准使用专用量词(只、本、件、条)能迅速拉升你的词汇得分。

Number + Measure Word + Noun → quantified NP

数词 + 量词 + 名词 → 量化的名词短语

Thus ‘san ben shu’ (three books), ‘liang zhi mao’ (two cats), ‘yi jian yifu’ (one piece of clothing). In the writing paper, dropping the measure word between a number and a noun is a direct grammar error. Even when no number is present, using ‘zhe’ (this) or ‘na’ (that) still requires a measure word: ‘zhe ben shu’. Never write ‘zhe shu’.

所以要说“三本书”、“两只猫”、“一件衣服”。在写作卷中,在数词和名词之间遗漏量词直接构成语法错误。即使没有数词,用“这/那”也仍然需要量词:“这本书”。绝不能写“这书”。

10. The ‘De’ Structural Particle Differentiation | 的、地、得区分定理

The three ‘de’ particles sound identical but follow strict theorems visible only in writing. 的 (de) marks possession or attributive modification: Noun/Adj + 的 + Noun. 地 (de) signals adverbial modification: Adj + 地 + Verb. 得 (de) introduces a degree or result complement: Verb + 得 + Complement. Mistaking one for another is a high-frequency OCR writing error that costs marks in character accuracy, so distinguishing them is a formula worth memorising.

三个“de”读音完全相同,但遵循严格的定理,只在书面上看出来。的标记领属或定语修饰:名词/形容词 + 的 + 名词。地标志状语修饰:形容词 + 地 + 动词。得引入程度或结果补语:动词 + 得 + 补语。把三者混淆是 OCR 写作中最高频的汉字准确度失分点,因此区分它们是一条值得刻在脑子里的公式。

X + 的 + N → modification/possession; Adj + 地 + V → manner; V + 得 + Complement → degree/result

X + 的 + 名词 → 修饰/所属;形容词 + 地 + 动词 → 方式;动词 + 得 + 补语 → 程度/结果

Example trio: ‘Wo de shu’ (my book) uses 的; ‘Mama qinqie di shuo’ (Mum said kindly) uses 地; ‘Ta pao de hen kuai’ (He runs very fast) uses 得. When proofreading your essay, systematically check that every ‘de’ follows its theorem. This final polish can move you across a grade boundary.

三句示例:“我的书”用的;“妈妈亲切地说”用地;“他跑得很快”用得。在校对你的作文时,系统性地检查每一个“de”是否遵循了它的定理。这道最后的加工能让你跨越一个等级边界。

11. The Causative ‘Rang/Jiao’ Formula | 使役式“让/叫”公式

Causative verbs like ‘rang’ and ‘jiao’ (both meaning ‘to let’ or ‘to make’) follow a neat formula: Subject + rang/jiao + Person + Verb (+ Object). The preposition-like position of the person before the second verb mirrors the English ‘make someone do something’, so it is intuitive once you learn the Chinese ordering. This is the standard way to express permission or compulsion without using ‘gei’ or ‘wei’, which operate differently.

使役动词“让”和“叫”遵循一个简洁的公式:主语 + 让/叫 + 人 + 动词 (+ 宾语)。这个人放在第二动词之前的介词式位置,很像英语的“make someone do something”,所以一旦掌握语序就显得很直观。这是表达允让或迫使的标准方式,不可与操作不同的“给、为”混用。

Subj + 让/叫 + Person
