1. Fluvial Environments | 河流环境术语

Hydraulic action is a fluvial erosion process where the sheer force of moving water exerts pressure on the bed and banks, loosening and removing rock particles, especially effective in turbulent flow and cracks.

2. Coastal Environments | 海岸环境术语

Longshore drift is the zigzag transport of sediment along a coastline generated by waves approaching the shore at an oblique angle; swash carries material up the beach, while backwash returns it perpendicular to the slope, moving sediment laterally.

Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient (rₛ) is a non-parametric statistical test used to assess the strength and direction of a monotonic relationship between two ranked sets of data. It is calculated as:

rₛ = 1 – (6∑d²) / (n(n² – 1))

Where d is the difference between ranks of each pair and n is the number of paired observations. An rₛ value close to +1 indicates a strong positive correlation, while –1 suggests a strong negative correlation.
