1. Stage Spaces & Areas | 舞台空间与区域

Proscenium Arch – The frame around the stage that separates the audience from the performance space, creating a “picture frame” effect. In Chinese, it is called 镜框式舞台, literally “mirror‑frame stage”, and it concentrates focus on the action behind the arch.

Upstage / Downstage – From the actor’s perspective, upstage is furthest from the audience, downstage is closest. The Chinese terms are 上舞台 / 下舞台, deriving from raked stages where the back was higher. “Upstaging” another actor means forcing them to turn away from the audience.
