1. Basic Declarative Sentence Formula | 基本陈述句公式

The most common Chinese declarative sentence follows the pattern: Subject + Time + Place + Prepositional Phrase + Verb + Object + (Complement). Elements can be rearranged slightly, but this template guarantees grammatical accuracy in both writing and translation tasks.

最常见的汉语陈述句遵循模式:主语 + 时间 + 地点 + 介词短语 + 动词 + 宾语 + (补语)。个别成分可以微调,但这一模板能保证在写作和翻译任务中的语法准确性。

  • Formula:

    S + T + P + Prep + V + O + C

  • Example:

    我 昨天 在图书馆 跟同学 看 了 两个小时 书。

  • English gloss: I + yesterday + at the library + with classmates + read + (aspect marker) + two hours + book.

时间词通常出现在主语后或句首,但不可插在动词与宾语之间。地点和介词短语同样前置。补语紧跟在动词后,描述结果、时长或程度。翻译考试中,先把英语定语和状语转化为前置结构,再套用公式,可以大幅减少语序错误。

Time words normally appear after the subject or at the very beginning, but never between the verb and its object. Place expressions and prepositional phrases also go before the main verb. Complements immediately follow the verb to express result, duration or degree. In the translation paper, convert English post‑modifiers and adverbial clauses into pre‑posed elements first, then apply the formula to cut down word‑order mistakes.

2. Question Formation Formula | 疑问句构成公式

Edexcel AS papers require you to handle three main question types. Treat each as a modular formula so you can generate accurate interrogatives instantly.

Edexcel AS 试卷要求你掌握三种主要疑问句。把每种看作模块化公式,就能即时生成正确的问句。

  • Yes‑no with ‘ma’:

    Declarative Sentence + 吗 ?

  • V‑not‑V (alternative):

    Verb + 不 / 没 + Verb (+ Object) ?

For two‑character verbs, only the first character is repeated or the whole verb is used: A 不 AB or AB 不 AB.

  • Question‑word questions:

    Question Word + (Verb + O) ?

Keep the word order the same as a statement — no subject‑auxiliary inversion.

‘吗’疑问句直接来自陈述句,只需在末尾加‘吗’。正反疑问句把动词的肯定和否定形式并列;注意‘有’的否定是‘没有’,所以是‘有没有’。疑问词问句在翻译中常见,切勿颠倒词序,比如‘你叫什么名字?’而非‘什么名字你叫?’。掌握这三条公式,阅读理解的语气判断和写作中的一问一答都能得心应手。

‘Ma’ questions are formed by adding ‘ma’ to the end of a declarative sentence. V‑not‑V questions juxtapose the affirmative and negative forms of the verb; note that the negative of ‘you’ is ‘meiyou’, so we say ‘you meiyou’. Question‑word questions appear frequently in translation — never flip the word order. For instance, ‘Ni jiao shenme mingzi?’ not ‘Shenme mingzi ni jiao?’. Once you lock in these three formulas, tone recognition in reading comprehension and question‑answer flow in writing become much easier.

3. The ‘Ba’ Construction Theorem | 把字句定理

The 把-construction is compulsory in AS translation. Think of it as a re‑ordering theorem: when an action is carried out on a definite object, producing a change or result, the sentence can be mapped to the ba‑schema.

‘把’字句是 AS 翻译中的必考项。把它视为一种重排顺序的定理:当一个动作施加于某个确定宾语并产生变化或结果时,句子就可以映射到把字模式

Subject + 把 + Definite Object + Verb + Complement / Result

  • Conditions for using 把: the object must be definite (known to listener); the verb must have a complement, result, direction or duration — a bare verb is not allowed; the verb must be an action verb, not a mental verb like 爱, 觉得.
  • Edexcel‑style example: ‘Please put the book on the desk.’ — 请 把 书 放 在 桌子上。

如果没有结果补语,‘把’字句不成立。例如不能说‘我把作业做’,必须说‘我把作业做完了’。翻译中遇到英语带宾补的处置义句子,优先考虑把字定理。反过来,看到中文把字句,英译时可还原为 SVO + adv/prep 短语,这是双向得分点。

Without a resultative complement, the ba‑sentence is incomplete. You cannot say ‘Wo ba zuoye zuo’; you must say ‘Wo ba zuoye zuo wan le’. When you encounter an English sentence that expresses disposal of a definite object with a result, prioritise the ba theorem. Conversely, when translating a Chinese ba‑sentence into English, revert to SVO plus an adverbial — this is a two‑way scoring opportunity.

4. The Passive Voice Theorem | 被动句定理

Edexcel AS demands both formal and informal passives. The core formal passive formula uses the coverb 被, while the notional passive uses the ordinary word order without a marker.

Edexcel AS 要求掌握正式和非正式被动句。正式被动的核心公式使用介词‘被’,而意义上的被动则使用普通语序,不加标记。

Patient + 被 + (Agent) + Verb + Complement / 了

  • Formal: ‘The window was broken by the wind.’ — 窗户 被 风 吹 破 了。
  • Notional passive: ‘The homework has been finished.’ — 作业 做 完 了。 (No 被 needed when the agent is irrelevant or obvious.)
  • Common in AS writing: 被、叫、让、给 are interchangeable in spoken style, but 被 remains the safest for formal tasks.

翻译题中,如果英语被动句的施动者有必要指出,用‘被 + 施动者’;若不重要,则采用意义被动,更符合中文习惯。需注意‘被’字后面也必须跟及物动词且有结果或完成义。不能写‘我被老师喜欢’,而要说‘我受到老师的喜爱’。建议在作文中使用一两个漂亮的被字句,展示语法结构多样性。

In translation, if the agent of the English passive is necessary, keep it after 被; if it is irrelevant, use the notional passive, which is more idiomatic. Remember that the verb after 被 must be transitive and often carries a result or completion marker. You cannot say ‘Wo bei laoshi xihuan’; instead, say ‘Wo shoudao laoshi de xi’ai’. Try to insert one or two well‑formed bei‑sentences in your essay to demonstrate structural range.

5. Comparative Structures Formula Collection | 比较结构公式集

Comparisons appear in almost every AS paper, from describing trends to justifying opinions. Memorise these five high‑frequency formulas.

比较结构几乎出现在每一份 AS 试卷中,从描述趋势到论证观点。记住下面五个高频公式。

A 比 B + Adjective

A 比 B + Adjective + 一点儿 / 得多 / 多了

A 跟 B 一样 + (Adjective)

A 没有 B + Adjective

越 A 越 B (‘the more … the more …’)

‘比’字句的否定是‘A 没有 B + adj’,不是‘不比’。如果一定要用‘不比’,后接形容词时带有反驳语气。Edexcel 写作中常用‘越来越 + adj/verb’表示变化趋势。比如‘空气污染越来越严重’。翻译时若遇到英语倍数比较,转换成‘A 是 B 的 X 倍’或‘A 比 B + adj + X 倍’。务必把程度补语(一点儿,多了)紧跟在形容词后,不要插在中途。

The negative of the bi‑sentence is ‘A meiyou B + adj’, not ‘bu bi’. Using ‘bu bi’ adds a refuting tone. In Edexcel writing, ‘yue lai yue + adj/verb’ is very useful for describing trends, e.g. ‘kongqi wuran yue lai yue yanzhong’. When translating English multiples, convert them into ‘A shi B de X bei’ or ‘A bi B + adj + X bei’. Always place degree complements (yidianr, duo le) directly after the adjective — do not insert them elsewhere.

6. Linking Words and Logic Theorem | 关联词与逻辑定理

AS essays and speaking tasks reward explicit logical connections. The theorem is simple: every complex Chinese sentence must carry a linking word pair unless the context is so tight that omission is natural.

AS 作文和口语任务对清晰的逻辑连接有加分。定理很简单:每一个复杂的中文句子都应该带有一组关联词,除非上下文极为紧密,省略才自然。

Relation Formula Pair English
Cause‑effect 因为 … 所以 … Because … therefore …
Condition 如果 / 要是 … 就 … If … then …
Concession 虽然 … 但是 / 可是 … Although … but …
Not only … but also 不但 … 而且 … Not only … but also …
Sequential 先 … 然后 … 最后 … First … then … finally …

注意‘虽然 … 但是’在汉语中必须成对出现,不学英语省略‘但是’。翻译时若原文只有一个连词,要补上配对的另一个。在阅读理解中,识辨关联词能迅速找到作者的观点转折和主旨。建议在作文开头段用一组因果关联词,正文段用递进或对比,结尾段用总结词如‘总之’‘因此’,让文章条理分明。

Note that ‘suiran … danshi’ must appear as a pair in Chinese — never drop ‘danshi’ as you would in English. In translation, if the original has only one conjunction, supply the missing partner. In reading comprehension, spotting linking words helps you locate the author’s turn of opinion and main point instantly. In your essay, use a cause‑effect pair in the introduction, progressive or contrastive pairs in body paragraphs, and a summarising word like ‘zongzhi’ or ‘yinci’ in the conclusion — this makes the essay coherent.

7. Topic-Comment Framework Theorem | 话题‑说明框架定理

Chinese frequently organises sentences around a topic rather than a strict grammatical subject. Recognising this framework is vital for natural translation and for understanding AS reading texts that front objects or time.

汉语常常围绕话题而非严格的语法主语来组织句子。认识这一框架对翻译的地道性和理解AS阅读中前置宾语或时间的文本至关重要。

Topic (what the sentence is about) + Comment (what is said about it)

Example: ‘这件衣服,颜色太亮了。’ The literal subject is ‘colour’, but the topic is ‘this piece of clothing’. In English we tend to subordinate the topic: ‘As for this clothing, the colour is too bright.’ Edexcel translation tasks often ask you to convert topic‑comment patterns into idiomatic English, or to produce them from English cleft/topicalised sentences. The theorem: identify the Chinese topic, place it at the beginning, and let the comment flow naturally, often with a comma separating the topic.

比如‘这件衣服,颜色太亮了。’语法主语是‘颜色’,但话题是‘这件衣服’。翻译成英语时通常处理为‘The colour of this clothing is too bright’或‘This piece of clothing has a colour that is too bright’。AS翻译任务经常要求你将话题‑说明句式转换成地道的英语,或从英语的分裂句/话题句中产出中文话题句。定理:识别中文话题,放在句首,让说明自然流出,话题后常用逗号隔开。

8. Rhetorical Devices Theorem | 修辞手法定理

For the literature and writing sections, you must both recognise and use rhetorical devices. This theorem encodes the most frequent devices tested in AS Edexcel Chinese.

针对文学和写作部分,你必须既能识别也能运用修辞手法。本定理编码了AS Edexcel 中文中最常考的手法。

Device Formula / Pattern English
比喻 (simile) A 像 B 一样 + adj A is as adj as B
排比 (parallelism) 3 or more phrases with same structure Repetition of structure
拟人 (personification) 将物当作人来写 (treat object as human) Giving human qualities to non‑human
反问 (rhetorical question) 难道 + Statement + 吗 ? Could it be that … ?

在写作中刻意使用一至两个比喻或排比句,可以提升语言评分。例如描写环境:‘城市的灯光像星星一样闪烁,街道像河流一样蜿蜒,人们的笑声像音乐一样动听。’排比结构能给阅卷官留下深刻印象。阅读理解中,反问句的识别常用来判断作者态度——‘难道’往往暗示强烈的否定或肯定情绪。

In your own writing, intentionally use one or two similes or parallel structures to lift your language mark. For example, describing an environment: ‘Chengshi de dengguang xiang xingxing yiyang shanshuo, jiedao xiang heliu yiyang wanyan, renmen de xiaosheng xiang yinyue yiyang dongting.’ Parallelism impresses the examiner. In reading, spotting rhetorical questions helps judge author attitude — ‘nandao’ often signals strong negative or affirmative sentiment.

9. Translation Conversion Theorem | 翻译转换定理

The AS Edexcel translation paper tests your ability to move between English and Chinese without distortion. This theorem summarises the essential conversion operations.

AS Edexcel 翻译卷考查你在英汉间转换而不失真的能力。这个定理概括了关键的转换操作。

  • Adjustment of sentence order: Move English time/place adverbials to the front, and convert English post‑modifiers into pre‑modifiers using 的.
  • Addition and omission: Add logical connectors required in Chinese; omit redundant English pronouns and articles.
  • Voice transformation: Convert English passives to Chinese 被‑sentences or notional passives as appropriate.
  • Abstract nouns: Turn English abstract nouns into verbs or adjectives in Chinese: ‘The beauty of the place’ → ‘那个地方很美’.

翻译步骤:先分析英语句子主干,套用陈述句公式调整语序;再检查所有名词是否带了修饰语,将后置定语提到前面;最后通读中文,补上缺失的关联词,删去啰嗦的代词。反向操作:英译时,把中文前置的状语拉回到句末,把隐性的逻辑关系显性化。常用连接词如‘therefore’, ‘however’往往需要你从中文隐性连接中推导出来。

Translation steps: first identify the skeleton of the English sentence, then apply the declarative sentence formula to adjust word order. Next, check all noun modifiers and bring post‑modifiers forward. Finally, read the Chinese aloud, insert missing logical connectors and delete unnecessary pronouns. For Chinese‑to‑English: drag fronted adverbials to the end, and make implicit logical relations explicit. Words like ‘therefore’, ‘however’ often need to be inferred from the Chinese implicit flow.

10. Four‑Character Idiom Quick Formula | 四字成语速用公式

Dropping a few apt chengyu into your essay or speaking demonstrates advanced lexical resource. Use this formula to deploy them safely: never force an idiom; place it as an adverbial or a concluding comment.

在作文或口语中恰当地插入几个成语能展示高级词汇能力。用这个公式安全地使用成语:不硬塞;把它作为状语或总结性评语。

Statement + , + ‘还 [是用成语] 呢’ / ‘真是 [成语]’

For Edexcel topics: environmental — ‘众所周知’ (as is known to all), ‘举足轻重’ (play a decisive role); education — ‘独树一帜’ (develop a style of one’s own), ‘因人而异’ (it varies from person to person); technology — ‘日新月异’ (change with each passing day). Memorise about ten versatile chengyu and practise inserting them into model essays. The safety rule: if unsure about the exact usage, use it after a comma as an evaluative remark, e.g. ‘这样看来,真是出人意料。’

针对Edexcel话题:环境——‘众所周知’ ‘举足轻重’;教育——‘独树一帜’ ‘因人而异’;科技——‘日新月异’。背诵十个左右多用途成语,并练习在范文里插入。安全法则:如果对用法没把握,就放在逗号后作为评价语,例如‘这样看来,真是出人意料。’ 这能防止语法硬伤,又能赢得词汇分。

11. Reading Comprehension Scan Theorem | 阅读理解扫读定理

Time pressure is acute in AS Paper 1. This theorem transforms your approach to longer texts: scan first for structural markers, then apply formulaic prediction.

AS 试卷一的时间压力很大。本定理改变你处理长文本的方式:先扫读结构性标记,再套用公式化预测。

Read questions → Scan for 但是/然而/所以/总之/实际上 → Locate topic sentence → Extract answer chunk

每段的首尾句往往是观点句。转折词‘但是’ ‘然而’后面的内容极有可能是作者的真实意图。列举处(第一、第二、第三)常对应多选题。文言或引用中的名言,直接看前后评论句。带着问题中的关键词回文定位,利用关联词定理找到对应解释。这套机械化步骤能显著提升选择题和简答题的准确率。

The first and last sentences of a paragraph usually carry the opinion. The content after contrastive words like ‘danshi’ or ‘ran’er’ is very likely the author’s real stance. Enumerations (diyi, di’er, disan) often match multiple‑choice options. For classical quotes or idioms, read the commentary sentences immediately before and after. Use keywords from the questions to locate the relevant text zone, then apply the linking‑word theorem to pinpoint the explanation. This mechanical routine markedly improves accuracy on multiple‑choice and short‑answer questions.

12. Writing Essay Architecture Formula | 作文构架公式

A high‑scoring AS essay follows a reliable blueprint. This formula ensures you never go off‑topic and always exhibit organised thinking.

高分的 AS 作文遵循可靠的蓝图。这个公式保证你永不跑题,并始终展示有条理的思维。

Introduction:

The introduction should not exceed four lines. Lead in with a social observation, state your opinion with ‘wo renwei’ or ‘zai wo kanlai’, and end with a transitional sentence previewing the body. Each body paragraph strictly follows the formula: topic sentence (argument), 1–2 sentences of explanation, one specific example, and a closing sentence that ties back to the argument. Examples can be from personal experience, common knowledge or stories — Edexcel does not require real statistics, only logical relevance. The conclusion should elevate the discussion, employing parallelism, rhetorical questions or a call to action. Train with this formula regularly, and you will produce essays quickly under exam conditions.
