Our case study centres on Amélie, a British student staying with a host family in Lille. We have a short dialogue between Amélie and her host mother, Mme Dupont. Read the dialogue below carefully.

This dialogue will form the basis of our activities. It contains everyday vocabulary, question forms and a casual register suitable for GCSE role-plays.

2. Listening Comprehension Analysis | 听力理解分析

Imagine you hear a recording of the dialogue above. In the exam, you may need to answer multiple-choice or short-answer questions. Let’s practise with typical listening tasks.

Question 1: What did Amélie think of the bed? (Answer in English)
Answer: She found it very comfortable.

These questions mirror the Foundation tier style. For Higher tier, you might need to infer attitudes: ‘How does Amélie feel about French markets?’ (She loves them / Elle les adore).

3. Speaking Role-Play Task | 口语角色扮演任务

In the AQA speaking exam, you will complete a role-play based on a scenario. Using our case study, prepare a similar role-play card.

Student’s role: You are Amélie. Your teacher will play Mme Dupont. You must greet her, say how you slept, ask what time you are leaving, and agree to go to the market.

This helps you practise spontaneous speech, pronunciation and the correct use of ‘tu’ forms. Remember to use polite intonation.

4. Reading Material Analysis | 阅读材料分析

Now consider a short email from Amélie to her friend back home. Read the text and answer the questions.

This reading task tests your ability to extract key details and recognise past, present and future tenses: ‘je suis arrivée’ (passé composé), ‘j’ai acheté’ (passé composé), ‘je vais visiter’ (near future).
