📚 KS3 CAIE Chinese: Core Knowledge Review | KS3 CAIE 中文:核心知识点梳理

This article provides a structured overview of the core knowledge areas covered in the Key Stage 3 Chinese curriculum under the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) framework. Designed for learners who study Mandarin as a foreign or second language, the content builds a solid foundation in pronunciation, characters, grammar, vocabulary and cultural understanding. Each section pairs essential English explanations with Chinese translations to support bilingual revision.

本文为剑桥国际考评(CAIE)初中段(KS3)中文课程的核心知识点梳理,帮助以中文为外语或第二语言的学习者系统地掌握语音、汉字、语法、词汇和文化理解。每一部分均采用中英对照的形式,便于双语复习和巩固。

1. Pinyin and Tones | 拼音与声调

Pinyin is the Romanisation system for Mandarin pronunciation. Mastering the four tones and the neutral tone is critical because a change in tone can alter the meaning of a word entirely. Tones are marked on vowels using diacritics: 1st tone (high level), 2nd tone (rising), 3rd tone (falling-rising), 4th tone (falling).

拼音是记录汉语普通话发音的罗马字母系统。掌握四个声调以及轻声至关重要,因为声调变化会完全改变词义。声调通过元音上的符号标示:第一声(高平)、第二声(上升)、第三声(降升)、第四声(下降)。

Common confusion patterns include j/q/x initials followed by ü (the umlaut), where the umlaut is dropped but still pronounced as ü – for example, ‘ju’ is actually ‘jü’. Similarly, final ‘-iu’ is pronounced ‘iou’ and ‘-ui’ as ‘uei’, which learners often misread.

常见易混淆点包括j/q/x后面的ü,书写时两点省略但仍读作ü,例如“ju”实际是“jü”。同样,韵母“-iu”发音为“iou”,“-ui”发音为“uei”,学习者常会误读。

The pinyin chart organises all possible syllables into initial and final combinations. Pay special attention to retroflex initials (zh, ch, sh, r) and palatal initials (j, q, x) because their tongue positions differ significantly from English sounds.

拼音表将所有可能的音节按声母和韵母组合排列。要特别注意翘舌声母(zh, ch, sh, r)和舌面声母(j, q, x),它们的舌位与英语发音差异较大。

2. Chinese Characters: Strokes and Radicals | 汉字:笔画与部首

Chinese characters are built from a set of basic strokes. The eight fundamental strokes include the horizontal (一), vertical (丨), dot (丶), left-falling (丿), right-falling (㇏), rising (㇀), hook (亅) and curved stroke (弯). Stroke order follows specific rules: top to bottom, left to right, horizontal before vertical, centre before sides, outside before inside, and inside before closing.

汉字由基本笔画构成。八种基本笔画包括横、竖、点、撇、捺、提、钩、弯。笔顺遵循特定规则:先上后下、先左后右、先横后竖、先中间后两边、先外后内、先里头后封口。

Radicals are character components that often hint at meaning. For example, 氵(three drops of water) indicates water-related words like 河 (river) and 海 (sea). 口 (mouth) appears in 吃 (eat) and 叫 (call). Learning common radicals helps learners guess meanings and use dictionaries.

部首是汉字的构字部件,常提示字义。例如氵(三点水)表示与水相关的字,如河、海。口字旁出现在吃、叫等字中。识记常见部首有助于猜测字义和查字典。

At KS3, students should recognise around 300–500 characters and be able to write about 150–250 from memory. Sound-meaning compounds (形声字) form the majority of characters; these combine a semantic radical and a phonetic component, such as 晴 (sun day + qing sound).

在KS3阶段,学生应能识别约300至500个汉字,并能默写150至250个。形声字占汉字的大多数,由表义的形旁和表音的声旁组成,例如“晴”由日字旁和声旁“青”构成。

3. Basic Sentence Structures | 基本句型

Mandarin follows a Subject–Verb–Object (SVO) order, similar to English. However, time and place phrases appear before the verb, not at the end. For example: 我今天在学校吃午饭 (I today at school eat lunch). Adjective predicates do not require a verb ‘to be’ – simply 我很好 means ‘I am fine’.

汉语遵循主语—动词—宾语(SVO)语序,与英语相似。但时间和地点短语通常放在动词之前,而不是句末。例如:我今天在学校吃午饭。形容词谓语句不需使用“是”,比如“我很好”就直接表示“I am fine”。

The ‘是’ sentence (A 是 B) is used for identification and classification: 这是我的书 (This is my book). The ‘有’ sentence indicates possession or existence: 我有一支笔 (I have a pen), 桌子上有书 (There are books on the table). Learners must avoid saying ‘是…的’ incorrectly when showing possession.

“是”字句用于表示等同和归类:这是我的书。“有”字句表示领有或存在:我有一支笔,桌子上有书。学习者应避免在表达所属关系时误加“是……的”。

Negation uses 不 for present and future, and 没 (or 没有) for past actions and the verb 有. 我不是学生。 我没有书。 Note that 没 is never used with 是 for past negation; say 不是, not 没是.

否定句中,“不”用于现在和将来,“没(没有)”用于过去动作和动词“有”。我不是学生。我没有书。注意过去否定不能用“没是”,只能说“不是”。

4. Question Words and Patterns | 疑问词与句型

Key question words include: 什么 (what), 谁 (who), 哪儿/哪里 (where), 什么时候 (when), 怎么 (how), 为什么 (why), 几 (how many – small numbers) and 多少 (how many/how much). Word order stays the same as a statement, just replacing the questioned element.

主要疑问词包括:什么、谁、哪儿/哪里、什么时候、怎么、为什么、几(用于小数字提问)和多少(用于数量提问)。语序与陈述句相同,只需将疑问词放在被提问成分的位置上。

The particle 吗 turns a statement into a yes/no question: 你好吗? (How are you?). The V-not-V structure (e.g., 吃不吃饭?) is another common yes/no pattern. Tag questions with 好吗, 行吗, 对吗 are polite: 我们走吧, 好吗?

语气词“吗”把陈述句变为是非问句:你好吗?正反问结构(V不V)也是一种常见的是否问句,如“你吃不吃饭?”反问句尾用“好吗、行吗、对吗”显得礼貌:我们走吧,好吗?

Using 怎么 + Verb asks about method; 怎么 + 了 asks about situation: 你怎么去学校? vs 你怎么了? Distinguish 为什么 for reasons and 因为 for responses.

“怎么 + 动词”询问方式,“怎么了”询问状况:你怎么去学校? vs 你怎么了?区分表原因的“为什么”和回答原因的“因为”。

5. Numbers, Dates and Time | 数字、日期与时间

Numbers 0–99 are formed logically: 11 is 十一 (ten one), 20 is 二十 (two ten). 100 is 一百, but 110 is 一百一十 (not 一百十). Large numbers use 万 (ten thousand), not millions. For ordinals, add 第 before the number: 第一, 第二。

数字0–99的组合很规律:11是十一,20是二十,100是一百,但110是一百一十(不能省略“一十”)。大数用“万”作为单位,不使用百万。序数词在数字前加“第”:第一、第二。

Dates follow the sequence year–month–day: 2025年1月15日。Days of the week use 星期 + number (星期一 Monday), except 星期日 or 星期天 for Sunday. Months are simply number + 月. To ask the day/date, use 今天几月几号? or 今天星期几?

日期顺序为年—月—日:2025年1月15日。星期表达为“星期 + 数字”(星期一),而星期日或星期天表示Sunday。月份就是数字加“月”。问日期用“今天几月几号?”问星期用“今天星期几?”

Telling time uses 点 for the hour and 分 for minutes. Half-hour is 半, quarter hour is 刻. 十点一刻 is 10:15; 十点半 is 10:30. Time words (今天, 明天, 现在, 上午) are placed before the verb, not at the end.

时刻表达用“点”和“分”,半小时为“半”,一刻为“刻”。十点一刻是10:15,十点半是10:30。时间词(今天、明天、现在、上午)位于动词之前,不能放在句末。

6. Measure Words | 量词

In Chinese, numerals cannot directly modify nouns; a measure word (classifier) must be inserted between the number and the noun. The default measure word is 个, used for people and many general objects. Different noun categories take specific measure words.

汉语中数词不能直接修饰名词,中间必须插入量词。最通用的量词是“个”,用于人及许多普通事物。不同名词类别搭配特定的量词。

Common measure words include 本 for books, 支 for pens, 张 for flat objects (paper, table, ticket), 只 for small animals and one of a pair, 条 for long, flexible things (fish, road, trousers), 杯 for cups, and 碗 for bowls. Learn them with nouns as chunks.

常见量词有:本(书)、支(笔)、张(纸、桌子、票)、只(小动物、成对物品之一)、条(鱼、路、裤子)、杯、碗。建议以搭配组块的方式记忆量词。

Some nouns use 种 (kind) or 类 (category) for abstract things: 一种语言, 这类问题. The structure ‘Number + Measure + Noun’ is fundamental; the number 一 is often omitted in spoken Chinese when the measure word follows a verb: 喝杯茶 (have a cup of tea).

抽象名词用“种”或“类”:一种语言,这类问题。“数词 + 量词 + 名词”结构是基本要求;口语中动词后的数词“一”常省略:喝杯茶。

7. Everyday Verbs and Tense Markers | 常用动词与时态标记

Chinese verbs do not conjugate, but tense/aspect is shown by particles. The particle 了 indicates completed action or change of state: 我吃了饭 (I ate/have eaten). Past experience is expressed with 过: 我去过北京 (I have been to Beijing). Continuous action uses 正在/在 + verb: 我在吃饭.

汉语动词没有词形变化,时态/体由助词体现。了表示动作完成或状态变化:我吃了饭。经历用“过”表达:我去过北京。动作进行用“正在/在 + 动词”:我在吃饭。

The fixed future pattern uses 要 or 会 before the verb, or time expressions plus 要…了: 明天我要去上海/快要下雨了. Do not overuse 了; it is not a past-tense marker for states like ’I was happy‘ – use 了 only if the state changed.

将来时用“要”或“会”置于动词前,或时间词加“要……了”:明天我要去上海/快要下雨了。不要滥用“了”;它不是状态动词的过去式标志,如“I was happy”用“我很高兴”,除非强调改变。

Common action verbs: 去, 来, 走, 跑, 吃, 喝, 看, 听, 说, 写, 读, 学, 玩, 买, 给. Compound verbs like 回来, 出去 add direction. Knowing these core verbs enables basic communication.

常用动作动词:去、来、走、跑、吃、喝、看、听、说、写、读、学、玩、买、给。动词和趋向补语结合如回来、出去能够扩展表达。掌握这些核心动词即可进行基本交流。

8. Adjectives and Adverbs | 形容词与副词

Adjectives in Chinese can function as predicates directly without 是: 这本书很有趣. To modify a noun, add 的: 漂亮的衣服. Intensive adverbs like 很, 非常, 太 come before adjectives. 太 must be used carefully; 太贵了 means ‘too expensive’ with an exclamatory 了.

汉语形容词可以直接作谓语,不需加“是”:这本书很有趣。修饰名词时加“的”:漂亮的衣服。程度副词如很、非常、太放在形容词前。使用“太”时要注意,常与“了”连用:太贵了!

Comparison patterns use 比: A 比 B + adj. 我比你高. To express equality, 跟…一样: 我跟你一样高. The complement of degree with 得 is used to describe how an action is performed: 他跑得很快.

比较句用“比”:A 比 B + 形容词,我比你高。表示同等用“跟……一样”:我跟你一样高。程度补语用“得”描述动作的方式:他跑得很快。

Adverbs of frequency (经常, 总是, 有时候, 从来不) precede the verb. Adverbs of manner are often formed by repeating the adjective or using 地: 她高兴地说. Time adverbs like 已经, 还, 才 should be placed before the verb or adjective.

频率副词(经常、总是、有时候、从来不)放在动词前。方式副词常通过形容词重叠或加“地”构成:她高兴地说。时间副词如已经、还、才也要放在动词或形容词之前。

9. Common Topics: Family, School, Hobbies | 常见话题:家庭、学校、爱好

At KS3, topics revolve around personal and social life. For family, vocabulary includes 爸爸, 妈妈, 哥哥, 弟弟, 姐姐, 妹妹, 爷爷, 奶奶. The structure 我家有…口人 introduces family size. Jobs of family members use 是 or 工作: 我爸爸是老师.

KS3阶段的话题围绕个人与社会生活。家庭词汇包括爸爸、妈妈、哥哥、弟弟、姐姐、妹妹、爷爷、奶奶。用“我家有……口人”介绍家庭人口。家庭成员的职业用“是”或“工作”表达:我爸爸是老师。

School life: subjects (数学, 科学, 历史, 中文), classroom objects (书包, 笔, 本子, 桌子) and daily routine (上课, 下课, 休息). The sentence pattern 我每天…点起床/睡觉 describes routines. The preposition 在 is essential for indicating location: 我在教室.

学校生活:科目(数学、科学、历史、中文),教室物品(书包、笔、本子、桌子),日常作息(上课、下课、休息)。用“我每天……点起床/睡觉”描述日常生活。介词“在”表示地点:我在教室。

Hobbies and preferences: 喜欢 + activity/noun; 爱 + activity; 对…感兴趣. Respond to 你喜欢…吗? with 是的, 我喜欢 or 不, 我不喜欢. Use 因为…所以… to give reasons. Sport, music and film vocabulary starts here.

爱好与偏好:喜欢 + 活动/名词;爱 + 活动;对……感兴趣。回答“你喜欢……吗?”时说“是的,我喜欢”或“不,我不喜欢”。用“因为……所以……”说明理由。运动、音乐、电影等词汇也从此阶段开始积累。

10. Cultural Awareness: Festivals and Customs | 文化意识:节日与习俗

CAIE KS3 Chinese emphasizes cultural understanding. Major festivals include 春节 (Chinese New Year), 中秋节 (Mid-Autumn Festival), 端午节 (Dragon Boat Festival). Students learn associated food, activities and greetings: 过年好, 中秋节快乐, 吃月饼, 舞龙, 划龙舟.

CAIE KS3中文课程注重文化理解。主要节日包括春节、中秋节、端午节。学生要学习相关的食物、活动和祝福语:过年好、中秋节快乐、吃月饼、舞龙、划龙舟。

The story of Nian and the custom of giving red envelopes (红包) are commonly taught. The twelve zodiac animals (十二生肖) are often introduced. Cultural comparisons – e.g., celebrating Christmas vs Chinese New Year – encourage cross-cultural reflection.

常见的教学内容包括“年”的故事和给红包的习俗,以及十二生肖。通过文化对比,例如圣诞节与中国新年的比较,鼓励跨文化思考。

Everyday etiquette such as polite phrases 请, 谢谢, 对不起, 没关系; how to address people using 先生, 小姐 or kinship terms (叔叔, 阿姨). Also, chopstick taboos and dining courtesy may be covered under cultural notes.

日常礼仪如礼貌用语请、谢谢、对不起、没关系;如何用先生、小姐或亲属称谓(叔叔、阿姨)称呼他人。此外,筷子禁忌和餐桌礼仪也可能在文化注释中涉及。

11. Reading and Writing Skills | 读写技能

Reading comprehension at this level involves short passages, dialogues and notices. Key strategies include skimming for gist, scanning for keywords (who, where, when), and inferring meaning from radicals or context. Graded readers with 200 character level are recommended.

此阶段的阅读理解包括短文、对话和通知。关键策略包括略读抓主旨、寻读找关键词(谁、哪儿、什么时候),以及根据偏旁或上下文推测词义。建议使用200字级别的分级读物。

Writing tasks range from sentences to short paragraphs of 80–120 characters. Common formats: self-introduction, diary entry, email to a friend, describing a picture. Cohesion markers like 首先, 然后, 最后 help structure simple narratives. Accurate stroke order and character proportions are assessed.

写作任务从造句到80–120字的短段落。常见体裁有自我介绍、日记、给朋友的邮件、图片描述。使用“首先、然后、最后”等衔接词组织简单叙述。评核标准包括正确笔顺和汉字间架结构。

Punctuation in Chinese (full stop 。 comma , question mark ?) must be meticulously used. Paragraphs are indented two character spaces. Writing practice should balance typing (pinyin input) and handwriting.

中文标点符号(句号。逗号,问号?)必须准确使用。段落开头空两格。写作练习应兼顾拼音输入打字和手写两方面。

12. Listening and Speaking Strategies | 听说策略

Listening materials typically include short monologues and dialogues at natural speed. Focus on catching key words, numbers, times and instructions. The strategy of prediction before listening and note-taking during listening is strongly encouraged.

听力素材通常包括自然语速的短独白和对话。重点关注捕捉关键词、数字、时间和指令。听前预测和听中做笔记的策略十分推荐。

Speaking tasks involve role-plays, picture descriptions and question-answer sessions. Fluency is valued over perfect grammar, but clear tones and sentence patterns are essential. Useful fillers (嗯, 那个, 我想一想) can help maintain the flow.

口语任务包含角色扮演、图片描述和问答环节。流利度比完美的语法更受重视,但清晰的声调和句型必不可少。适当使用填充词(嗯、那个、我想一想)有助于保持语流。

Practice common question and answer routines: 你叫什么名字?—我叫…; 你家在哪儿?—我的家在…; 你有宠物吗?—有/没有。 Pair recordings can be used for self-evaluation and peer feedback.

练习常见问答模式:你叫什么名字?—我叫……;你家在哪儿?—我的家在……;你有宠物吗?—有/没有。可以录制对话,用于自我评估和同伴反馈。

Confidence grows with small successes. The CAIE KS3 Chinese curriculum rewards effort and progression across all four skills, aiming for a balanced communicative competence that prepares learners for IGCSE Chinese.

自信随着每个小成功而增长。CAIE KS3中文课程重视四项技能的均衡发展和持续进步,目标是培养面向IGCSE中文的交际能力。
