This guide covers key techniques and the marking criteria used in Cambridge Lower Secondary Science assessments.

在 KS3 CIE 科学考试中取得成功,不只是记住知识点。你必须能准确理解题目、有条理地呈现答案,并运用探究技能。了解考官如何给分,能帮助你更有针对性地复习,避免丢失不该丢的分数。本指南将梳理关键答题技巧和剑桥初中科学测评的评分标准。

1. Understanding Command Words in Questions | 理解问题中的指令词

Every question contains command words that tell you what type of answer to give. The most common ones are: describe, explain, state, compare, calculate, suggest, and evaluate. Circle or underline these words before you start writing.

每道题目都包含指令词,告诉你答案的类型。最常见的指令词有:描述、解释、陈述、比较、计算、建议和评估。在动笔前圈出或在这些词下划线。

If you see ‘describe’, you need to say what something looks like or what happens, using details but not reasons. For example, ‘Describe the trend shown in the graph’ means you should state how the line rises, falls or stays constant.

如果你看到“描述”,你需要说出某物像什么或发生了什么,要提供细节但不必解释原因。例如,“描述图中呈现的趋势”意味着你应说出线条如何上升、下降或保持不变。

If the command is ‘explain’, you must use scientific knowledge to give reasons. Words like ‘because’, ‘due to’ and ‘as a result of’ are your best friends in these answers.

如果指令是“解释”,你必须运用科学知识来给出理由。像“因为”、“由于”和“因此”这样的词是你在答案中最得力的帮手。

‘Compare’ requires you to describe similarities and differences. Always use comparative words such as ‘higher than’, ‘slower than’ or ‘whereas’. A simple list of features without comparison will not score full marks.

“比较”要求你描述相同点和不同点。务必使用比较级词汇,如“高于”、“慢于”或“而”。只列出特征却没有比较,是拿不到满分的。

2. Structuring Answers for ‘Describe’ Questions | 构建“描述”题的答案

A strong ‘describe’ answer uses precise sensory details. Include size, shape, colour, texture or changes over time. Do not drift into explanations – keep to what you can observe or measure.

一个出色的“描述”答案会使用精确的感官细节。包括大小、形状、颜色、质地或随时间的变化。不要滑向解释——只写你能观察到或测量出的内容。

When describing a graph or table, mention the overall pattern first. Then point out any maximum, minimum or plateau. For example, ‘The temperature increased steadily from 20 °C to 80 °C over 5 minutes, then levelled off.’

描述图表或表格时,先指出整体规律。然后指出任何最大值、最小值或平台期。例如,“温度在5分钟内从20 °C稳定上升至80 °C,随后趋于平稳。”

In practical scenarios, structure your answer in a logical order: start from the beginning of the procedure, move step by step, and describe what you would see at each stage.

在实验情境中,要按逻辑顺序组织答案:从操作开始,逐步推进,并描述在每一步你会看到什么。

3. Using Scientific Terminology Accurately | 准确使用科学术语

Examiners expect you to use the correct scientific vocabulary. Instead of ‘sugar is used up’, write ‘glucose is broken down during respiration’. Instead of ‘air gets into the lungs’, write ‘oxygen diffuses from the alveoli into the blood’.

考官期待你使用正确的科学词汇。不要写“糖被用掉”,而应写“呼吸作用中葡萄糖被分解”。不要写“空气进入肺”,而应写“氧气从肺泡扩散进入血液”。

Spelling matters for key terms. Words like ‘photosynthesis’, ‘respiration’, ‘evaporation’, ‘amplitude’ and ‘exothermic’ must be spelled correctly. In many mark schemes, the correct spelling is required for the mark to be awarded.

关键术语的拼写也很重要。“光合作用”、“呼吸作用”、“蒸发”、“振幅”和“放热”这样的词必须拼写正确。在很多评分方案中,拼写准确才是给分的前提。

Avoid everyday language. Saying ‘the object got faster’ is less impressive than ‘the object accelerated’. Writing ‘the bulb becomes brighter’ is acceptable, but ‘the current increased, producing a greater power output’ shows deeper understanding.

避免使用日常用语。说“物体变快了”不如“物体加速了”好。写“灯泡变亮”可以接受,但写“电流增大,产生更大的功率输出”能展示更深层的理解。

4. Tackling ‘Explain’ Questions with Cause and Effect | 用因果关系解答“解释”题

‘Explain’ questions want you to link an observation to a scientific principle. Use a clear cause-and-effect chain: state the scientific reason, then say what happens as a result. Always include a ‘because’ or ‘so’ linking word.

“解释”题希望你用科学原理联系观察现象。使用清晰的因果链:先陈述科学原因,再说结果。一定要使用“因为”或“所以”这样的连接词。

For example, when explaining why a balloon expands when heated: ‘Gas particles gain kinetic energy and move faster (cause). They collide with the inner wall more forcefully and frequently (effect). This increases the pressure inside the balloon, making it expand.’

例如,解释气球加热时为何膨胀:“气体粒子获得动能,运动更快(原因)。它们与内壁的碰撞更有力、更频繁(结果)。这使气球内部压力增大,导致膨胀。”

Ensure your explanation is specific to the situation. Refer to the named substances, forces or energy stores shown in the question. Generic statements like ‘energy is transferred’ are not enough unless you say from where to where, and how.

确保你的解释切合具体情境。要提及题目中给出的物质、力或能量储存。类似“能量被转移”这样笼统的说法是不够的,除非你说明了从哪里转移到哪里,如何转移。

5. Drawing and Interpreting Graphs | 绘制与解读图表

When drawing a graph, always label both axes with the variable name and unit, for example ‘Time (s)’ and ‘Temperature ( °C)’. Choose a sensible scale that uses more than half the grid and is easy to read, such as going up in 2s, 5s or 10s.

画图时,横纵坐标轴都要标注变量名和单位,例如“时间 (s)”和“温度 ( °C)”。选择合理的刻度,要用到网格线一半以上的范围且易于读数,例如按2、5或10递增。

Plot points with small, neat crosses (×) and do not join them with a ruler if a curve is expected. Draw a smooth line of best fit that passes through as many points as possible, with roughly equal numbers of points above and below the line.

用整洁的小叉号 (×) 标出数据点,如果预期是曲线,不要用尺子连直线。绘制一条平滑的最佳拟合线,让它尽可能通过多的点,且线两旁的点数大致相等。

When interpreting a graph, describe the relationship between variables. Use phrases like ‘as … increases, … decreases’ or ‘there is a positive correlation up to … then it plateaus’. Quote data from the graph to support your statements, such as ‘at 4 s the distance was 12 m’.

解读图表时,要描述变量之间的关系。使用诸如“随着……增加,……减少”或“到……为止呈正相关,之后趋于平稳”的说法。引用图表中的数据来佐证你的陈述,如“在4秒时,距离为12米”。

6. Planning a Fair Test Investigation | 规划公平测试实验

In investigation questions, you must identify three types of variables: the independent variable (what you change), the dependent variable (what you measure or observe) and at least two control variables (what you keep the same to make the test fair).

在探究题中,你必须识别三类变量:自变量(你改变的量)、因变量(你测量或观察的量)以及至少两个控制变量(为保持公平而保持不变的量)。

Your method should be written in clear, logical steps. Start with ‘Measure … using a …’, then ‘Record the results in a table’ and ‘Repeat the experiment three times and calculate a mean’. Always state what equipment you will use.

你的方法要用清晰、有逻辑的步骤来写。以“用……测量……”开头,接着“将结果记录在表格中”,然后“重复实验三次并计算平均值”。务必说明你会使用什么器材。

Include safety precautions, for example ‘wear safety goggles because the acid is corrosive’ or ‘tie back long hair when using a Bunsen burner’. These details can gain extra marks.

要写明安全注意事项,例如“戴护目镜,因为酸有腐蚀性”或“使用本生灯时扎起长发”。这些细节能让你获得额外分数。

7. Writing Balanced Chemical Equations | 书写配平的化学方程式

Start by writing the correct formula for each reactant and product. Reactants go on the left, products on the right, with an arrow (→) in between. State symbols such as (s), (l), (g) and (aq) are not always required in KS3 but can be included.

先写出每个反应物和生成物的正确化学式。反应物在左侧,生成物在右侧,中间用箭头 (→) 连接。状态符号如 (s)、(l)、(g) 和 (aq) 在 KS3 不总要求,但可以加入。

Balancing means making sure there are the same number of each type of atom on both sides. Count the atoms, then add large numbers in front of substances. Do not change small subscript numbers. For example: 2Mg + O₂ → 2MgO.

配平意味着确保每种原子在两边数量相同。数原子,然后在化学式前面加上大的系数。不要改动小下标数字。例如:2Mg + O₂ → 2MgO。

For word equations, simply write: methane + oxygen → carbon dioxide + water. However, if you can give a balanced symbol equation, it shows higher-level skill and can earn you marks for application.

对于文字方程式,只需写:甲烷 + 氧气 → 二氧化碳 + 水。不过,如果你能给出配平的符号方程式,就能展示高阶技能,并可能获得应用方面的分数。

8. Showing Calculations, Formulas and Units | 展示计算过程、公式与单位

Always start a calculation by writing the formula you are using. For example, write density = mass ÷ volume at the top of your working. Then substitute the numbers with their units, and show each step.

计算时总要先写出你将使用的公式。例如,在计算过程的上方写下 密度 = 质量 ÷ 体积。然后代入带单位的数字,并展示每一步。

Present the calculation clearly:

speed = distance ÷ time

速度 = 距离 ÷ 时间

= 100 m ÷ 8 s = 12.5 m/s

这样清晰展示计算过程:

速度 = 距离 ÷ 时间

= 100 米 ÷ 8 秒 = 12.5 米/秒

Always include the unit in your final answer and check if you need to convert units first. For instance, convert grams to kilograms if the question expects g/cm³ or kg/m³. Final answers should usually be given to 2 or 3 significant figures if not specified.

最终答案务必包含单位,并检查是否需先换算单位。例如,如果题目要求 g/cm³ 或 kg/m³,要把克换算成千克。若无特别说明,最终答案通常保留 2 到 3 位有效数字。

9. Evaluating Data and Suggesting Improvements | 评估数据并提出改进建议

When asked to evaluate, comment on the reliability and accuracy of the results. Mention any anomalous points (outliers) that do not fit the pattern. Say whether repeats were taken and if the results are consistent.

当要求评估时,要评论结果的可靠性和准确性。指出不符合整体规律的异常点(离群值)。说明是否进行了重复实验,以及结果是否一致。

Suggest realistic improvements, such as: ‘Use a digital data logger to reduce human reaction time error’ or ‘Measure the volume of gas to the nearest 0.5 cm³ instead of 5 cm³ for greater precision’. Simply saying ‘do it more carefully’ is too vague.

提出切实可行的改进建议,例如:“使用数字数据记录器以减少人为反应时间误差”或“测量气体体积时精确到 0.5 cm³ 而非 5 cm³,以提高精确度”。只说“做得更仔细”就太笼统了。

If you had to repeat a procedure, explain why. For instance, ‘Calculate the average of three trials to reduce the effect of random errors’. This shows you understand how science works.

如果你需要重复实验,解释原因。例如,“计算三次试验的平均值,以减少随机误差的影响”。这表明你理解科学是如何运作的。

10. Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them | 常见错误及避免方法

One very common mistake is forgetting to read the command word carefully. Many students write a description when an explanation is required. Always underline the command word and return to it while writing.

一个非常常见的错误是忘记仔细阅读指令词。很多学生在要求解释时写了一段描述。始终在指令词下划线,并在书写过程中回顾它。

Leaving units off numerical answers is another frequent slip. Even if your number is correct, missing the unit can cost you the mark. Make it a habit to write the unit immediately after the number, and check each answer.

数字答案遗漏单位是另一个常见疏忽。即使数字正确,缺少单位也可能导致丢分。养成在数字后立刻写上单位的习惯,并逐一检查。

In graph work, students often forget to label axes with units or choose a scale that is not linear. Always start your graph by writing the axis labels and units first, then plot points. Poor labelling can lose marks even if the plotting is perfect.

在图表题目中,学生经常忘记给坐标轴标单位,或选了非线性的刻度。画图时总是先写轴标签和单位,再描点。即使描点完美,标注不佳也会丢分。

When balancing equations, never alter the small subscript numbers inside a formula. Only place large numbers before the whole formula. Many students change H₂O to H₂O₂ when trying to balance, which creates a completely different substance.

配平方程式时,绝不能改动化学式里的小下标数字。只能在整个化学式前面加大的系数。许多学生在试图配平时会把 H₂O 变成 H₂O₂,这就变成了完全不同的物质。

11. Understanding the CIE Mark Scheme: Assessment Objectives | 理解CIE评分方案:评估目标

CIE KS3 Science papers assess three main objectives. Knowing these will help you understand what each question expects.

CIE KS3 科学试卷评定三大目标。了解它们有助于你明白每道题的要求。

Assessment Objective 评估目标 Typical Weighting
AO1: Knowledge with understanding AO1: 知识理解 40-50%
AO2: Handling information and problem-solving AO2: 信息处理与问题解决 30-40%
AO3: Experimental skills and investigations AO3: 实验技能与探究 20%

AO1 questions test recall of facts, definitions and concepts from the syllabus. To prepare, use flashcards and practise writing concise definitions. Questions often start with ‘State’ or ‘What is the name of …’.

AO1 题目考察对教学大纲中事实、定义和概念的回忆。用抽认卡备考,练习写出简洁的定义。这类题常以“陈述”或“……的名称是什么”开头。

AO2 questions require you to apply knowledge to unfamiliar contexts, interpret data from graphs or tables, and solve numerical problems. Practise reading charts and carrying out multi-step calculations.

AO2 题目要求你把知识应用到不熟悉的语境中,解读图表或表格中的数据,并解决数值问题。练习读图和进行多步计算。

AO3 questions focus on experimental design, identifying variables, evaluating methods and suggesting improvements. The best way to prepare is to thoroughly analyse every practical experiment you do in class and write sample evaluations.

AO3 题目聚焦实验设计、识别变量、评价方法并提出改进建议。最好的备考方式就是仔细分析课堂上做过的每一个实验,并写出样例评价。

12. Managing Your Time in the Exam | 考试中的时间管理

Scan the entire paper during the first minute. Note the number of questions and the marks for each. A rough guide is one mark per minute – if a question is worth 4 marks, spend about 4 minutes on it.

在第一分钟内快速浏览整份试卷。注意题目数量和每题的分数。一个粗略的参考是每分钟拿一分——如果一道题值4分,就花大约4分钟作答。

Start with the questions you find easiest to build confidence. Do not get stuck on a difficult 1-mark question early on. Mark it with a small star and come back to it after finishing the rest of the paper.

从你最容易的题目开始,以建立信心。不要一开始就被一道困难的1分题卡住。用一个小星号标记它,做完试卷其他部分后再回头处理。

Use the last five minutes to check your answers. Verify that you have included units, read command words correctly and written something for every question. Even a partially correct answer can gain marks.

用最后五分钟检查答案。确认你写上了单位,正确解读了指令词,且每道题都写了内容。即使是部分正确的答案也能得分。

If you find yourself running out of time for a longer question, write bullet points of key ideas. Examiners can award marks for correct points even if they are not in full prose.

如果感觉时间不够做一道长问题,可以列出关键观点的要點。即使不是完整的散文式答案,考官也会对正确的要点给分。
