1. What Is an Energy Circus? | 什么是能量巡回站?

In an energy circus, the teacher sets up several practical stations around the laboratory. Each station has a device or object that transfers energy in a different way, such as a lamp, a wind-up toy, a pendulum or a candle.

Learners observe each station, say where energy is stored before the change, identify the transfer pathway, and then name the final energy store. Marks are awarded for using precise store and pathway language rather than vague words like “power” or “electricity”.

2. Core Energy Stores and Transfer Pathways | 核心能量储存与转移途径

CIE KS3 mark schemes expect learners to use the energy stores model. The main stores include chemical, kinetic, gravitational potential, elastic potential, thermal, magnetic, electrostatic and nuclear.

Energy is transferred between stores through four pathways: mechanically, electrically, by heating and by radiation. Many energy circus stations involve more than one transfer, so the mark scheme gives marks for each correct step in the chain.

3. How the Mark Scheme Is Structured | 评分标准的结构

A CIE-style mark scheme for the energy circus usually has three or four mark points per station. The first mark is for naming the initial energy store, the second for identifying the transfer pathway, and the third for naming the final energy store. A fourth mark may be available for stating that total energy is conserved.

Marks are not awarded for simply saying “it uses energy” or “it makes heat”. The answer must link the correct store to the correct object and direction of transfer.

Examiners usually read the answer as a sequence: before, during and after. A common mark scheme layout is therefore:
