The Cambridge IGCSE Geography practical assessment is not a laboratory experiment; it tests your ability to work with maps, graphs, photographs, field sketches and fieldwork data. Success depends on accurate measurement, clear presentation and logical interpretation.

剑桥 IGCSE 地理实践考核并不是实验室实验,而是考查你运用地图、图表、相片、野外素描和田野调查数据的能力。要想取得高分,测量要准确、展示要清晰、解释要合乎逻辑。


1. Understanding the Practical/Skills Paper | 认识实践技能卷

In the 0460 syllabus, the practical element is mainly assessed by Paper 2 Geographical Skills, with some schools entering Paper 4 Alternative to Coursework. Both papers reward the same command skills: reading resources, extracting information, plotting and interpreting data.

在 0460 大纲中,实践部分主要通过 Paper 2 地理技能卷来考查,部分学校也会选考 Paper 4 课程作业替代卷。两份卷子都考查相同的技能:阅读资料、提取信息、绘制并解释数据。

Questions often combine two or more resources, such as a map extract, a photograph, a graph and a short fieldwork description. Always read the stem and labels before answering.

题目通常会把两种或更多资料组合起来,例如地图局部、相片、图表和简短的田野调查描述。答题前一定要先读题干和所有标注。


2. Map Skills: Grid References and Scale | 地图技能:格网坐标与比例尺

A four-figure grid reference (e.g. 4521) identifies a grid square; a six-figure reference (e.g. 453217) gives a point to the nearest 100 m on a 1:50 000 map. Remember to move along the easting first, then up the northing.

四位数格网坐标(如 4521)表示一个格网方格;六位数格网坐标(如 453217)在 1:50 000 地图上可精确定位到约 100 米的点。记住要先读东向坐标,再读北向坐标。

Scale can be shown as a statement, a linear scale or a ratio such as 1:25 000. Always convert map distances to ground distances and include the correct unit, usually metres or kilometres.

3. Measuring Distance, Area and Gradient | 距离、面积与坡度测量

For straight-line distance, place the straight edge of a paper strip between two points, mark them, then read against the linear scale. For curved routes, use a string or divide the route into small straight sections.

Area can be estimated by counting full grid squares and combining partial squares. On a 1:50 000 map, one 2 cm × 2 cm square represents 1 km².

Gradient is vertical difference divided by horizontal distance, usually simplified to a ratio such as 1:20. Use the formula:

Gradient = Vertical interval ÷ Horizontal equivalent

4. Interpreting Relief and Drainage | 地形与水系判读

Relief is shown by contours, spot heights, triangulation pillars and layer shading. Closely spaced contours indicate a steep slope; widely spaced contours show gentle or flat land.

地形通过等高线、点高程、三角测量柱和分层设色来表示。等高线密集表示陡坡;等高线稀疏表示缓坡或平地。

Drainage patterns include dendritic, trellis, radial and rectangular. Identify the main river, its tributaries, the direction of flow and any meanders, waterfalls or floodplains visible on the map.

Use contour values to decide flow direction: rivers flow from higher to lower ground. V-shaped contour bends often point upstream in a river valley.

5. Using Photographs and Field Sketches | 相片与野外素描

Photographs in the exam provide visual evidence of landforms, land use and human activities. Label them with geographic terms rather than simply listing ‘trees’ or ‘houses’.

考试中的相片提供了地貌、土地利用和人类活动的视觉证据。要用地理术语给相片标注,而不是只写 ‘树’ 或 ‘房子’。

A field sketch should include a title, frame, compass direction and labels. Annotate the main features, such as ‘steep cliff at coast’ or ‘terraced rice fields on slope’.

野外素描要包含标题、图框、指南针方向和标注。要注释主要特征,例如 ‘海岸陡崖’ 或 ‘坡地上的梯田水稻’。


6. Graphs, Charts and Data Presentation | 图表与数据展示

Choose the correct graph for the data type: line graphs for continuous data over time, bar charts for categories, pie charts for percentage shares, scatter graphs for relationships and histograms for frequency distributions.

要根据数据类型选择正确的图表:连续随时间变化的数据用折线图,类别数据用柱状图,百分比份额用饼图,关系数据用散点图,频率分布用直方图。

Always label axes, give units, add a title and use a sensible scale. Plot points neatly and do not join points across gaps unless the question says to do so.

一定要给坐标轴标注、写出单位、加上标题并使用合理的刻度。描点要整洁,除非题目要求,否则不要把有间隔的点连成线。


7. Describing Patterns and Trends | 描述分布与趋势

Use the TEA structure: Trend, Example, Anomaly. First state the overall pattern, then quote a specific value or place, and finally identify anything unusual.

使用 TEA 结构:总体趋势、具体例子、异常点。先描述整体分布规律,再引用具体数值或地点,最后指出异常现象。

When describing a map distribution, mention location, concentration, linear or clustered patterns and changes over space. Avoid simply copying the map title.

描述地图分布时,要提到位置、集中程度、线状或团状格局以及空间变化。不要只是照抄地图标题。
