WJEC International GCSE Physical Education uses practical and experimental tasks to assess how well candidates combine scientific principles with real sporting performance. The practical component is not an add-on: candidates must collect data, demonstrate skills under isolated and competitive conditions, and explain how training methods improve health, fitness and performance.

Examiners reward three broad qualities: skill execution, application of rules and tactics, and evidence of analysis. Candidates should treat every video clip, observation record or data table as part of an assessed portfolio rather than as informal evidence.

Effective portfolios combine three types of evidence: performance in isolated drills, performance in competitive play, and written or verbal analysis supported by laboratory data. The table below summarises the main evidence types.

2. Selecting Activities and Gathering Evidence | 项目选择与证据收集

Choose activities where you can demonstrate both closed skills and open decision-making. A strong portfolio usually includes an individual activity, a team activity and one fitness or laboratory task, but the exact combination should follow the current WJEC specification.

Evidence should be dated and labelled with the activity, candidate number and performance context. If a skill is not obvious on camera, add a short commentary or skills matrix so the examiner can see exactly what to reward.

3. Laboratory Experiments in Exercise Physiology | 运动生理学实验

Common experiments measure heart rate, breathing rate, skin temperature, perceived exertion and recovery time before and after exercise. Always state the independent variable, dependent variable and at least two control variables when writing up any experiment.
