Research can include analysing existing products, reading material data sheets or surveying users. In an exam, you may not have real research, but you can show research thinking by comparing two existing solutions and stating what you would measure in a user trial.

You should also justify why injection moulding is better than alternatives. 3D printing is good for prototypes but too slow for 1000 units. CNC machining from aluminium gives excellent accuracy but higher unit cost and more waste. Injection moulding has a high initial tooling cost, but the cost per part drops sharply with volume.
