📚 AS WJEC German: 2026 Exam Changes and Trends | AS WJEC 德语:2026年考试变化与趋势

From September 2025, WJEC will introduce a revised specification for AS German, with first examinations taking place in summer 2026. The changes aim to better reflect modern communicative needs, deepen cultural understanding, and ensure rigorous assessment of all four language skills. In this article, we analyse the key modifications and emerging trends that students and teachers should be aware of as they prepare for the new exams.

从2025年9月起,WJEC将推出修订后的AS德语教学大纲,首次考试在2026年夏季进行。这些变化旨在更好地反映现代沟通需求,加深文化理解,并对四项语言技能进行严格评估。本文分析了学生在备考新考试时应了解的关键调整及新兴趋势。

1. Overview of the Updated Specification | 大纲结构概览

The new AS German qualification retains three examined units, but the internal weighting has been refined to give greater prominence to translation and to create a sharper focus on listening and reading comprehension. The table below illustrates the shift from the old arrangement to the 2026 structure.

新的AS德语资格仍由三个考试单元组成,但内部权重经过优化,更突出翻译技能,并加强了对听力和阅读理解的重点考查。下表显示了从旧方案到2026年结构的变化。

Unit Previous weighting (% of AS) 2026 weighting (% of AS)
Unit 1: Speaking 30% 30%
Unit 2: Listening, Reading & Translation 50% (all three skills embedded) 40% Listening & Reading + 15% standalone Translation section
Unit 3: Critical Writing 20% 15%

旧制下翻译任务隐含在阅读与综合任务中,分数不易单独体现。新大纲将翻译独立为一个明确的计分部分,占AS总分的15%,这要求学生投入专门训练。同时,批判性写作单元权重从20%降至15%,为更全面的技能平衡让路。

The removal of opaque embedded translation marks means that translation performance is now transparent and separately reported. Candidates must treat translation as a distinct skill, mastering both German-to-English and English-to-German passages that reflect contemporary communicative contexts. The critical writing component has been slimmed to 15%, but its mark scheme now places additional emphasis on linguistic range and grammatical control alongside literary analysis.

2. Innovations in the Speaking Exam | 口语考试创新

The speaking test continues to be conducted by the centre but will be digitally recorded and externally moderated for every candidate – a move designed to improve consistency across schools. The exam structure remains two-part: a discussion based on a stimulus card and a conversation grounded in the candidate’s independent research topic.

口语考试仍由学校组织,但每位考生的全程都将进行数字录音并接受外部评审——此举旨在提高不同学校之间的评分一致性。考试结构仍为两部分:基于提示卡的讨论,以及围绕考生独立研究主题展开的对话。

What is new is the increased weight placed on interactive spontaneity. In the stimulus card section, examiners will now insert unscripted follow-up questions or role-play twists that require the candidate to think on their feet, such as dealing with a complaint, making a suggestion in an informal setting, or negotiating a compromise. This mirrors real-life encounters far more closely than the previous pattern of predictable topic questions.

新变化在于对互动自发性的权重提升。在提示卡部分,考官现在会插入非预设的追问或角色扮演的转折,要求考生即兴应对,例如处理投诉、在非正式场合提出建议或协商妥协方案。这比过去那种可预测的主题提问模式更接近现实生活中的交流情景。

3. Authenticity in Listening and Reading | 听力与阅读任务的真实性

From 2026, both listening and reading papers contain a significantly higher percentage of unedited, authentic material. Candidates will encounter short podcast clips, social media posts, forum discussions, and extracts from German news bulletins alongside more conventional staged dialogues. Regional accents — including Austrian and Swiss variants — will feature more regularly in listening tasks.

从2026年起,听力和阅读卷中未编辑的、真实语料的占比将大幅提高。考生将接触到简短的播客片段、社交媒体帖子、论坛讨论和德语新闻摘要,同时仍保留传统的模拟对话。听力任务中会更频繁地出现包括奥地利和瑞士变体在内的地区口音。

New question types, such as summary completion with multiple-choice boxes and matching speakers to opinions, test not only factual comprehension but the ability to infer tone, attitude and implied meaning. As a result, learners need to build a strong stock of colloquial expressions and recognise how register shifts between formal and informal contexts.

新题型如多项选择式摘要填空和说话者观点配对,不仅考查对事实的理解,还考查推断语气、态度和言外之意的能力。因此,学习者需要积累大量的口语化表达,并能识别正式与非正式语境的语体转换。

4. Strengthening Translation Skills | 翻译技能的强化

The standalone translation section in Unit 2 comprises two passages: a German-into-English text drawn from journalistic or factual sources, and an English-into-German task focusing on everyday transactional language, such as email correspondence or travel information. The combined weight of 15% of the AS makes this one of the most significant single assessment changes.

单元二中的独立翻译部分由两段文本组成:一段德译英,取材于新闻报道或事实性材料;一段英译德,聚焦日常事务性语言,如电子邮件往来或旅行信息。两部分合计占AS总分的15%,这是本大纲最重要的单项评估变化之一。

Examiners explicitly penalise literal, word-for-word renderings that ignore idiomatic usage and natural German sentence structure. Students must therefore demonstrate secure handling of subordinate clause order, the passive voice, modal particles, and case governance. Systematic translation practice, with a focus on phrase-level equivalence rather than individual word substitution, is now essential for success.

阅卷人会明确扣罚那些忽略惯用表达和德语自然句型的逐字直译。考生必须表现出对从句语序、被动语态、情态小品词和格支配的牢固掌握。因此,系统的翻译训练,以短语层面的等效表达为核心,而非单个词的对换,成了拿分的关键。

5. Changes to Writing Assessment | 写作评估的转变

Unit 3: Critical Response in Writing remains an essay-based task on a German-language film or literary work, but the assessment criteria have been overhauled. While analytical insight into themes, characters and style still matters, equal weight is now given to language quality — accurate grammar, sophisticated vocabulary, and the ability to craft complex, coherent sentences.

单元三“写作中的批判性反应”仍是对德语电影或文学作品的论文式任务,但评分标准已全面革新。对主题、人物和风格的分析洞察固然重要,但语言质量——准确的语法、高级词汇以及构建复杂连贯句子的能力——现在占到了同等的权重。

An additional innovation is the piloting of an optional creative response: students may choose to write a diary entry, a personal letter, or a short narrative from a character’s perspective instead of a traditional analytical essay. This alternative, where approved by the exam board, rewards stylistic risk-taking and personal engagement with the text, encouraging deeper imaginative immersion in the target culture.

另一项创新是试行的可选创造性写作:考生可以选择写一篇日记、一封私人信件或从某个角色的视角展开的短篇叙述,以替代传统的分析性论文。在考试局批准的范围内,这种选择奖励文体冒险和对文本的个人化投入,鼓励学生更深入地融入目标文化。

6. Expanded Thematic Content | 主题领域的扩展

The two core thematic areas — ‘Youth and Society’ and ‘Understanding the German-Speaking World’ — have been updated to reflect contemporary realities. Sub-themes such as digital transformation, the impact of social media on identity, and climate activism now replace older topics like traditional hobbies. The migration and integration strand has been broadened to include recent refugee experiences and multicultural urban life in cities like Berlin and Vienna.

两大核心主题领域——“青年与社会”和“理解德语世界”——已经过更新,以反映当代现实。数字化转型、社交媒体对身份认同的影响以及气候行动主义等子主题取代了传统爱好等旧话题。移民与融合板块也扩展到了当代难民经历和柏林、维也纳等城市的多元文化生活。

Literary works and films prescribed for AS have also been refreshed. While established texts such as ‘Good Bye, Lenin!’ and ‘Die Welle’ remain, a contemporary graphic novel and a documentary film have been added to the list, offering diverse genres and registers. Teachers should ensure candidates explore the historical and cultural background of these works, as contextual knowledge directly influences marks in the critical essay.

AS指定的文学作品和电影也作了更新。《再见列宁!》和《浪潮》等经典仍在,但一部当代图像小说和一部纪录片被增列入清单,提供了多样的体裁和语域。教师应确保考生探索这些作品的历史文化背景,因为在批判性论文中,上下文知识会直接影响得分。

7. New Focus on Grammar and Vocabulary | 语法与词汇新重点

Grammar is no longer tested only implicitly through translation and writing; explicit assessment of grammatical knowledge now appears across several components. In the listening and reading papers, discrete items such as selecting the correct relative pronoun or past participle form are included. The speaking mark scheme rewards candidates who deploy
